  • Patent number: 6882842
Abstract: A method wherein an autonomous system that must move off of the current DCCH channel: determines a new DCCH channel; transmits on the current DCCH channel a new PSP/POF list in which the new DCCH replaces the current DCCH, transmitting the new PSP/POF list for a time sufficient for mobile stations camped on the current DCCH to update their PSP/POF lists; and begins broadcasting on the new DCCH channel. Whereby a MS camped on the current DCCH: receives the new PSP/POF list; updates its internal tables; loses communications on the current DCCH; performs the Control Channel Reselection procedure; finds the new DCCH channel; and camps on it.

  • Patent number: 6882770
Abstract: An optical MEMS devices is imaged to a different location at which a second optical MEMS device is located in a manner that effectively combines the tilt angles of at least one micro mirror of each of the first and second optical devices. The imaging system may reproduce the angle of reflection of the light from the first micro mirror. This may be achieved using a telecentric system, also known as a 4 f system, as the imaging system. The physical size of the arrangement may be reduced by compacting the optical path, e.g., using appropriate conventional mirrors, and/or employing folded arrangements, i.e., arrangements in which there is only one MEMS device stage that does double duty for both input and output through the use of at least one conventional mirror.

  • Patent number: 6882675
Abstract: A compact optical resonator that exhibits long TOPLs is fabricated by (a) selecting a 3-dimensional (3D) reflective, essentially closed surface such that the paths of optical rays that reflect from the interior of the surface include chaotic, open paths; (b) determining the phase-space of the reflection points of the rays; (c) within the phase-space identifying at least one forbidden zone where there are no such reflection points and at least one allowed zone where there is a multiplicity of such reflection points; (d) forming the surface inside a rigid body; and (e) forming at least one physical feature that communicates with the interior of the resonator and is located in a region of the surface that is determined by the positions of the forbidden zones, the allowed zones, or both. In a preferred embodiment physical features such as gas ports are located in regions of the surface that, in phase space, correspond to forbidden zones (so that the circulating optical rays cannot escape via the gas ports).

  • Patent number: 6882641
Abstract: A feature server, e.g., a stored program controller, processes calls to a subscriber's main directory number in a packet network by submitting a subscriber-administered questionnaire to callers. The information in the questionnaire, when completed by the calling party, can be used to automatically route the call or to reposition the call in the incoming call queue. Alternatively, the completed, or even partially completed questionnaire may be displayed in a “pop up” window to a subscriber's operator who can then use the information to assist the caller or, without need of answering the call, to reposition the call within the queue or to divert the call to another directory number. In addition, information previously provided in a questionnaire completed by a caller is stored so that when the caller calls again, the stored information may be employed to more efficiently process the call.

  • Patent number: 6879918
Abstract: The invention is directed to techniques and mechanisms for measuring transmission loss of a cable comprising the steps of disabling an antenna connected to a second end of the cable, feeding an input signal having an energy level into a first end of the cable for transmission of the input energy toward the second end of the cable, measuring a reflected energy, reflected back toward the first end of the cable from the second end of the cable, and comparing the reflected energy to a input energy to determine a cable loss. Directional couplers may be used to sample the input and reflected energy to be measured. The information derived from the comparison of input and reflected energy measurements can then be used to calibrate a transmitter thereby optimizing performance.

  • Patent number: 6879573
Abstract: A wireless communication system and method provide air interface channels using diverse multiframe types on a single frequency carrier. Physical channels for a single frequency carrier are defined as time slots, a series of consecutive time slots define a frame, and a plurality of multiframe types are defined for the single frequency carrier as including different numbers of consecutive frames. By multiplexing a plurality of multiframe types onto a single frequency carrier, diverse channels types such as traffic channels, broadcast control channels, and common control channels can be accommodated on the same frequency carrier to enable efficient utilization of frequency resources. In one exemplary implementation, a first multiframe type is defined as having x consecutive frames, a second multiframe type is defined as having y consecutive frames, and a third multiframe type is defined as having z consecutive frames.

  • Patent number: 6876484
Abstract: A MEMS device having a deformable segmented mirror. The mirror includes a plurality of movable segments supported on a substrate using spring vertices, each vertex having a fixed plate and one or more springs. In a representative embodiment, three springs support each movable segment, where each spring connects the movable segment to a different spring vertex. The MEMS device also has a plurality of electrodes, each of which can be individually biased. A movable segment moves in response to a voltage applied to an electrode located beneath that segment while the deformed springs attached to the segment provide a restoring force. Due to the fixed plates, motion of each movable segment is substantially decoupled from that of the adjacent segments, which makes the shape of the segmented mirror relatively easy to control.
