  • Patent number: 6898281
Abstract: A system and method for echo and near end cross talk (E/N) cancellation in a communications system using a pair of FIR filter ICs, wherein a first FIR filter IC filters a plurality of low amplitude E/N signals and a first portion of a plurality of data bits of a plurality of high amplitude E/N signals, and a second FIR filter IC filters a second portion of the data bits of the high amplitude E/N signals which cannot be filtered by the first FIR filter IC. The output values from the two filters are then summed to produce the E/N cancellation signal. The present invention allows for the use of lower bit-resolution, lower power consumption, and less expensive filter ICs than conventional FIR filters implemented in a single IC.

  • Patent number: 6898441
Abstract: A communication system's transmit configuration is reconfigured based on mobile station associated conditions such as the capability of the mobile receiver, carrier to interference or signal to noise ratios, and the degree of mobility associated with the mobile station. • Patent number: 6895253
Abstract: A wireless communication system and method includes antenna arrays at both the transmitter and receiver having a plurality of elements for very high data rate communication. Phased array antennas or directive fixed beam antennas are used with a beamwidth in azimuth and elevation less than 30° to increase the power margin and to decrease the delay spread of signals at the receiver to permit wireless data communications at high data rates in closed environments, for example, bursty transmissions and isochronous communications. The wireless communication system is capable of data transmission rates which exceed 1 Gbps with propagation losses of up to at least 60 dB relative to one meter.

  • Patent number: 6894969
Abstract: The present invention is a core interface mechanism that permits 1:N type port protection on the core side of the switch such that core bandwidth is not wasted by the direct connection of service cards to the switching core. In an exemplary embodiment, a core interface module supports up to two active service cards and one dedicated protection service card. To provide increased efficiency and lower cost the redundant service card does not strand user bandwidth in the switch core. In an exemplary embodiment, the core interface includes a plurality of core side input and output ports for coupling to the switching core and a plurality of card side input and output ports for coupling to the service cards. A data flow switch function couples between the core side ports and the card side ports. The data flow switch function operates to complete data flow paths between the core side ports and the card side ports.

  • Patent number: 6895514
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enhancing the security of password security systems. The authorization decision related to passwords is based not only on entry of the correct characters in the correct sequence but also on the keystroke sequence timing associated with the typing habits of an authorized user. The keystroke sequence timing provides an additional security measure to each password similar to signature or fingerprint systems. Particularly, each person has a unique typing style and this uniqueness is captured in the present invention as keystroke sequence timing and used as an additional recognition means.

  • Patent number: 6895057
Abstract: A system and method is provided for communicating in a wireless communication system which supports link adaptation or link adaptation and incremental redundancy. The invention provides link adaptation at multiple code rate by dividing fixed length RLC blocks into coded sub-blocks. CRC code may be appended to the RLC blocks for error detection. The sub-blocks are then grouped into transmission units for transmission. The number of sub-blocks in each group is varied to provide multiple code rates. Headers are used to identify the transmission units being transmitted. In the case of retransmission, the transmission units may be expressly identified through extended headers. One or more of the originally transmitted sub-blocks are dropped and replaced by the extended headers in the retransmission. Accordingly, the present invention provides for a retransmission code rate which may be different from the code rate at which the transmission units were originally transmitted.

  • Patent number: 6895011
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for re-sequencing data packets received from multiple devices in a packet-based digital communication system. A set of data packets is received by a data packet sequencer. Each data packet includes an indicator of the originator of the data packet. The data packet sequencer stores the set of data packets, preferably in an input buffer. The data packet sequencer reorders the data packets by retrieving a first data packet and determining the originator of the first data packet. The data packet sequencer then transmits all data packets that were originated by a first originator of the first data packet prior to transmitting data packets that were not originated by the first originator.

  • Patent number: 6891237
Abstract: An organic field effect transistor (FET) is described with an active dielectric layer comprising a low-temperature cured dielectric film of a liquid-deposited silsesquioxane precursor. The dielectric film comprises a silsesquioxane having a dielectric constant of greater than 2. The silsesquioxane dielectric film is advantageously prepared by curing oligomers having alkyl(methyl) and/or alkyl(methyl) pendant groups. The invention also embraces a process for making an organic FET comprising providing a substrate suitable for an organic FET; applying a liquid-phase solution of silsesquioxane precursors over the surface of the substrate; and curing the solution to form a silsesquioxane active dielectric layer. The organic FET thus produced has a high-dielectric, silsesquioxane film with a dielectric constant of greater than about 2, and advantageously, the substrate comprises an indium-tin oxide coated plastic substrate.

  • Patent number: 6892021
Abstract: An optical dynamic gain equalization filter (DGEF) comprises a planar arrangement of preferably “perfectly sampled” (or alternatively oversampled) waveguide grating routers (WGR's) connected by individual optical paths each containing a Mach-Zehnder interferometer operated in a push-pull fashion so that a positive phase change in one interferometer arm and a corresponding negative phase change in the other interferometer arm produces a desired change in attenuation while, at the same time, the overall phase of the optical signals after passing through the Mach-Zehnder interferometer is kept constant with respect to the adjacent paths. Alternatively, the above-described arrangement is effectively “cut in half”, and its size effectively also reduced accordingly, using a mirror placed at the midpoint of the device and an appropriate circulator to separate the input and output optical signals.

  • Patent number: 6891852
Abstract: A method to adjust the burst transmission duration time, in a high speed digital wireless communication system, to provide sufficient time for the transmission of data when all the data is not available at the time of transmission. According to the method of the invention, after the burst transmission is begun, the burst is maintained active as additional data is selected within a known time period following the previous detected data packet and the detected data is appended to the active burst transmission. The invention further terminates the burst duration when no additional data is detected within the redefined time period following the previous detected data packet.

  • Patent number: 6891821
Abstract: The present invention enables APs to communicate with CNs in a backhaul network configuration in such a manner that the network is dynamically and adaptively self-aligning in terms of bandwidth utilization. A technique known as Black bursts is adapted to a backhaul network configuration to enable access instants in communicating between APs and CNs to be automatically and dynamically self re-aligned in response to APs entering and leaving the network. Thus, APs are not required to explicitly inform each other of these changes. Real-time APs are given priority over non-real-time APs in order to ensure that real-time traffic meets bounded end-to-end delay requirements. This is accomplished by decreasing the period of time that real-time APs must wait while the channel is idle before accessing the channel relative to the time period that non-real-time APs must wait before accessing the channel.
