  • Patent number: 6873846
Abstract: A system for providing location data for determining which service provide is to receive a location based telephone call from a wireless telephone set. A list of call routing parameters for a wireless telephone is generated from the location of a wireless telephone. Each call routing parameter is a location descriptor which indicates location of a caller. A switching system then read each calling parameter from the list and attempts to find a service provider to receive the call. The switching system repeats the process until a service provider is determined. The call is then extended to the service provider.

  • Patent number: 6873271
Abstract: A power supply particularly suitable for high-speed optical data transmission employs readily available components to achieve desired voltage tolerances. More specifically, a voltage signal supplied to a load is converted into a digital signal and provided to a processor that derives a digital correction signal from the digital signal. The digital correction signal is then converted to an analog correction signal and is used by a feedback control circuit in the power supply to regulate the output voltage.

  • Patent number: 6874052
Abstract: The present invention is an I2C (inter-IC control) bridge device which implements a communication protocol layered on top of a standard I2C protocol. The layered protocol used by the bridge device is termed the “Layered I2C Protocol”—abbreviated “LIP”. Thus the bridge device is called a “LIP bridge device”. The LIP bridge device provides I2C address extension, data integrity checking, and fault detection and isolation when inserted between an I2C bus master and it's intended target I2C device. Each LIP bridge device has at least two attached I2C busses—a parent bus and a child bus. The LIP bridge operates as a slave on its parent bus, and a master of its child bus. The Layered I2C protocol is specified to operate on a bus between one or more bus masters and the parent bus of one or more LIP bridge devices. The child bus is used for attaching multiple I2C devices and/or one or more LIP bridge devices.

  • Patent number: 6872947
Abstract: A portable spectrophotometric system for detecting one or more target substances. In a representative embodiment, a system of the invention has an optical grating, an array of photo-detectors, and a MEMS device having a movable plate positioned between the grating and the array. Light transmitted through a gaseous sample is dispersed by the grating and is imaged onto the movable plate, which has a plurality of openings corresponding to selected infrared absorption lines of the target substance. A small-amplitude oscillation is imparted onto the plate such that the openings periodically move in and out of alignment with the corresponding intensity features in the image, which modulates electrical signals generated by the corresponding photo-detectors. A lock-in signal processor analyzes the modulation pattern by comparing it to the pattern expected in the presence of the target substance.

  • Patent number: 6873599
Abstract: A hybrid telecommunications component in accordance with the principles of the present invention affords loopback test capabilities across boundaries between circuit switched and packet switched components. A loopback test which encompasses at least a portion of the packet switched side of a hybrid system may be initiated from the circuit switched side of the hybrid device. Additionally, a loopback test which encompasses at least a portion of the circuit switched side of a hybrid system may be initiated from the packet switched side of the hybrid device. In an illustrative embodiment, when a loopback test of the circuit switched side is initiated by the packet switched side, the loopback test is carried out by the circuit switched side, with the results being reported by the circuit switched side to the packet switched side.

  • Patent number: 6870916
Abstract: In a multimedia communications system (100), a conference establishment server coordinates the scheduling of a conference call. The server receives request for conference calls (202). The request includes a list of participants and may include an indication of the resources necessary and any rules for the conference call. The request may indicate critical resources or participants that are required for the call. Based on the request, the server determines a conference time and notifies participants of the time (204, 206, 210). Prior to conference time, participants are reminded of the time and automatically connected to the call. The server may check the status of users on the telecommunications network to determine availability. If a critical participant or resource is unavailable at conference time, the conference may be cancelled with notification to the participants.

  • Patent number: 6870180
Abstract: An apparatus having a circuit coupled to the gate contact of field effect transistor wherein the transistor's gate includes a dielectric layer of which at least a portion is an organic dielectric. The circuit is configured to produce one or more storage voltage pulses that cause charge to be stored in the dielectric layer. The field effect transistor has a semiconductor layer with a conductive path whose conductivity changes for a given Vg in response to storing the charge. The circuit may produce one or more dissipation voltage pulses having a voltage of opposite sign to the one or more storage pulses, that cause dissipation of charge stored in the dielectric layer. Further disclosed are a memory and a method of electronically storing and reading information, both utilizing the organic-based polarizable gate transistor apparatus.

  • Patent number: 6870825
Abstract: Pilot signals transmitted by different antennas in a wireless communication system using multiple transmit antennas are distinguished using different codes. In one embodiment, each of two antennas simultaneously transmit a time slot's worth of data while time division multiplexing a pilot signal with the data. The pilot signal from the first antenna is encoded with a first code such as a Walsh code and the pilot signal from the second antenna is encoded with a different code such as a different Walsh code. The different codes enable a receiver to distinguish the pilot signals when they are received to enable coherent detection of signals transmitted by both of the antennas.

  • Patent number: 6870856
Abstract: A circuit arrangement for a reception part of an SDH transmission system for transmitting plesiochronous signals contains input channels assigned to these signals which are connected to a clock synchronizer for the adaptation of the plesiochronous signals to a common processing clock. The clock synchronizer is followed by a multiplexer, to the output of which a reception processor is connected for the transformation of a plesiochronous signal into a synchronous signal for an SDH transmission channel. A circuit arrangement for a transmission part of the SDH transmission system contains a multiplexer, to the output of which a transmission processor is connected for the conversion of a transmitted synchronous signal into a plesiochronous signal. Using a desynchronizer following the transmission processor, the plesiochronous signal clocks are recovered, and the plesiochronous signals are issued to the output channels assigned to them.

  • Patent number: 6871233
Abstract: The “what” and “how” of policy-based management is integrated in a single framework that enables a system administrator to specify service-level quality of service (QoS) goals for automatic enforcement. Automatic enforcement of the specified “high-level” QoS goals is realized through the execution of “low-level” rule-based or procedural logic, without the client having to specify the low level logic. Specifically, one embodiment of the invention employs a management server including a graphical interface that allows a user, e.g. a system administrator, to easily specify parameters for service-level QoS goals. A QoS goal is defined by the administrator selecting a client, a service and a QoS expression that specifies the desired service-level QoS. The state of the network is monitored and one or more defined QoS goals are selected for evaluation in a continuous process. The QoS delivered for the selected goal is determined and compared to the desired QoS for the selected QoS goal.

  • Patent number: 6871070
Abstract: A communication system includes User Equipment (111), Radio Access Network (RAN) (121), a packet-switched domain (131), an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) (141), a circuit-switched domain (151), a Domain Name System (DNS) (165), a Charging Gateway Function (CGF) (134), an EIR (135), a Transport Signaling Gateway (T-SGW) (146), and a Roaming Signaling Gateway (R-SGW) (147). The CS domain (151) includes an interworking Mobile Switching Center (iMSC) (201). The iMSC (201) translates the CS domain registration, call control, feature control, and feature invocation procedures associated with the access technology to standard SIP procedures. The media gateway (MGW) (173) under the control of the iMSC (201) converts the air interface media flow into a packet stream that is managed by SIP procedures within the IMS (141).
