Abstract: A method for forming a shallow trench isolation structure within a semiconductor substrate includes forming a trench opening within a semiconductor substrate having an oxidation-resistant material as a top surface. An oxide liner is formed on inner surfaces of the trench opening. A silicon material is then introduced into the trench opening and over the top surface. The silicon material is subsequently oxidized, either before or after a polishing operation is used to planarize the structure. Dishing related problems are avoided during polishing because the silicon or oxidized silicon material has a polishing rate similar to the oxidation resistant material, and less than that of conventionally formed CVD oxides.
Abstract: A connector boot for attachment to a flanged BTW-LC connector has extending at an angle therefrom a trigger member. The trigger on the boot acts as an anti-snag device and makes removal of the connector easier. The boot has a bore extending therethrough having an undercut portion for gripping the connector flange, and at least one key in the bore for mating with slots in the flange of the connector for preventing the boot and trigger from turning relative to the connector. In an embodiment of the invention, a second boot parallel to the first boot is joined thereto by a web, and a trigger member extends from the web at an angle to the boots.

Abstract: A method apparatus for finding and assigning both commercially valuable and vanity (CSV) numbers in a telecommunications system that permits number portability. CSV Numbers are identified by a rules based process that combs the unused number database for valuable combination and saves those numbers in a special database. Those numbers that are not so identified stay in the unused database for general assignment. To assign a CSV number, a similar process is used to generate candidate numbers based on a desired keyword, and then the candidate numbers are used to query the special database and even the general unused number database to get available candidates. The available candidates are offered to the requesting user and the user may accept or decline.

Abstract: A power amplifier system uses upstream signal information of a signal to be amplified by an amplifier to control the operation of the amplifier, thereby enabling the amplifier to operate more efficiently overall. The power amplifier system can reconfigure the amplifier based on upstream signal information, such as the measured peak power, the measured average power, the number of users, the type of carriers (CDMA, TDMA, FDMA), the number of carriers and/or the average power per carrier. For example, based on upstream signal information for the signal to be amplified, processing circuitry can reconfigure the power amplifier architecture to adjust the peak power handling capability of the amplifier. By reducing the peak power handling capability of the amplifier, the long-term efficiency of the amplifier can be improved.
Abstract: A Network Address Translator (NAT) processes multi-media calls between an H.323 multi-media terminal and the same H.323 multi-media server of many H.323 multi-media servers. By using the values of the TCP and UDP ports uniquely identifying the H.323 server responsible for processing a multi-media call, the NAT can calculate the identity of the proper transmission path to the same H.323 multi-media server.
Abstract: A splice holder for securing and retaining fiber optic splices. The splice holder improves access to individual splices and minimizes interference to adjacent splices during removal. The splice holder comprises a hollow base having a first flat portion and a second enclosing portion defining a hollow longitudinal space therebetween. A plurality of parallel, spaced apart longitudinal members extend from the second portion away from the hollow space. Adjacent pairs of members define a channel for retaining a splice. Within the hollow space is a transversely extending wall for structural support of the second portion, which divides the space into two cavities. The cavities provide improved access to the underside of a splice.
Abstract: An apparatus, method and system are provided for topological channel assignment for focused beam, fixed wireless telecommunications. The preferred system embodiment includes a plurality of transceivers coupled to a telecommunications switch, in which each transceiver utilizes a narrow focused beam on the order of ten degrees, for full duplex communication with fixed customer premise equipment. The geographic region is topologically divided, preferably, into a plurality of adjacent cells, in which each adjacent cell utilizes a distinctive, orthogonal code set from a 10 MHz spectrum. As channels, the various code assignments may be dynamically determined at any given time. The switch includes instructions for determining the cell configurations, determining an available channel (code) set for a selected cell, and within the selected cell, determining the plurality of focused beam ranges to create a corresponding plurality of sectors.
Abstract: An integrated, single output port, tunable multiple wavelength laser apparatus produces one of Na Nb wavelengths using only Na plus Nb selection signals. Each of Nb ports can output Na of the laser wavelengths, the port being selected by the Nb control signals and the particular one of the Na wavelengths being selected by the Na control signal. An Nb×1 router combines the signals from the Nb output ports into a single output.

Abstract: Computer users may utilize different web browsers to access a server system on the World Wide Web (WWW) to create or join a collaborative browsing session. One or more controllers connect the users or collaborators in a session in the server system. This is realized by establishing a so-called “shared Web-top”, i.e., a work space, in which different in-document applications can be run and can be interactively, collaboratively shared by a plurality of users. Specifically, this is realized in one embodiment by employing event handlers in the WEB documents that are activated whenever there is a change in the values of prescribed properties of a document. The event handlers notify a so-called surrogate of the changes in the prescribed properties of the document, i.e., that values in elements of a form have changed, and transmit the detected changes to surrogates of other users, i.e., at least one other collaborator, via a communication channel.

Abstract: A contention-based network which allows real-time traffic to exist as multiple independent linked-list chains or under certain conditions to be assembled into multiple linked-list chains. A time separation is enforced between the various multiple chains, which are limited to a predetermined maximum number of stations that each can have in order to allow non-real-time stations to obtain timely access to the medium. Ones of the multiple chains may also be joined into a single chain. Blackburst contention is used to enable a chain to be reconstituted robustly from non-anticipated interruptions, such as the failure of one of its stations.

Abstract: An intelligent-networked telecommunication system avoids redundant billing for telephone transactions in which there is a billing conflict between the Intelligent Network (IN) and another component of the system by its Service Control Point (SCP) creating a service-dependent pseudo Calling Line Identifier (CLI). When a Pseudo CLI look-up table stored in the SCP database indicates that a pseudo CLI is to be created (based upon the Destination Number, DN, or the Service Key, SK), the SCP combines a prefix listed in the table with the Calling Party Number (CgPN) to form a pseudo CLI or create a totally new CLI number string. When the call is connected to the DN, the created pseudo CLI, rather than the original CLI, is transferred to the DN. A pseudo CLI is indicated where the IN is programmed to handle the billing of a particular transaction, and where the instrumentality of the DN (e.g., toll switch or special service platform) is also set up to handle billing.
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for use in a transceiver of a wireless system that enable analog mode operations to be performed using in-phase (I) and quadrature (Q) values. The apparatus comprises a processor that performs FM modulation to generate I, Q pairs when operating in the analog mode. When transmitting in the analog mode, the processor encodes a digital representation of the signal to be transmitted into I, Q pairs and outputs the I, Q pairs to a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) comprised by the apparatus. The DAC converts the digital I, Q pairs into analog signals and outputs the analog signals to a cosine wave generator, which generates an in-phase cosine wave and an out-of-phase cosine wave having amplitudes that are proportional to the I and Q values, respectively. The cosine waves are summed for transmission over air. When receiving in the analog mode, a digital down converter converts the received signal into digital I and Q values.

Abstract: A system an method for managing wire leads that extend from a circuit board of a similar electronic assembly. The device includes a support tray having a top surface and a bottom surface. The circuit board is mounted to the top surface of the support tray. A planar element is provided that is positioned below the bottom surface of the support tray. The planar element engages the wire leads extending from the circuit board. The presence of the planar element causes the wire leads to extend along the bottom surface of the support tray between the bottom surface of the support tray and the planar element. As a result, the wire leads conform to the bottom of the support tray and do not occupy the space behind the circuit board.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for substantially eliminating distortion produced by a processing circuit where the distortion produced by a first circuit with similar characteristics as the processing circuit is modified and the modified distortion is applied to the processing circuit. The distortion produced by the first circuit is modified based on information derived from distortion produced by the processing circuit. The modified distortion, when applied to the processing circuit, combines destructively with distortion produced by the processing circuit.
Abstract: A method of encoding a video sequence including a sequence of video images includes first comparing elements of a portion of a first video image (e.g., pixels of a macroblock of a current frame) with elements of a portion of a second video image (e.g., corresponding pixels of a macroblock of a previous frame) to generate respective intensity difference values for the element comparisons. Then, a first value (e.g., one) is assigned to the intensity difference values that are above a visually perceptible threshold value and a second value (e.g., zero) is assigned to the intensity difference values that are at or below the visually perceptible threshold value. Next, the method includes summing the first and second values to generate a sum. If the sum is greater than a predetermined decision value, the portion of the first video image is encoded (e.g., motion compensated). The method is fully compatible and, thus, may be implemented with video standards such as, for example, H.261, H.
