  • Patent number: 7073068
Abstract: A method for distributing a password amongst a plurality of servers for subsequent use in a provably secure multi-server threshold password authentication process. A client, having a password to be authenticated by a plurality of servers, generates an encryption of a function of the password. Then, this encryption is provided to each of the servers for use in subsequent password authentication. In accordance with one illustrative embodiment of the invention, the encryption is of an ElGamal ciphertext of the function g(?C)?1, where ?C is password and g is the generator used to generate the cryptographic keys used for communication between the client and the plurality of servers.

  • Patent number: 7072831
Abstract: Enhanced estimation of the noise component of a signal is accomplished by using a plurality of filters. Each filter provides an estimate of a minimum sample in a sample set that includes a plurality of signal samples. A comparator, coupled to the plurality of filters, successively compares the estimates among the plurality of filters, and selects the signal estimate having the lowest magnitude. The selected signal estimate represents an enhanced estimate of the noise component of the signal.

  • Publication number: 20060143218
Abstract: A method of estimating set-expression cardinalities over data streams with guaranteed small maintenance time per data-element update. The method only examines each data element once and uses a limited amount of memory. The time-efficient stream synopsis extends 2-level hash-sketches by randomly, but uniformly, pre-hashing data-elements prior to logarithmically hashing them to a first-level hash-table. This generates a set of independent 2-level hash-sketches. The set-union cardinality can be estimated by determining the smallest hash-bucket index j at which only a predetermined fraction of the b hash-buckets has a non-empty union |A?B|. Once a set-union cardinality is estimated, general set-expression cardinalities may be estimated by counting witness elements for the set-expression, i.e., those first-level hash-buckets that are both a singleton for the set-expression and a set-union singleton.

  • Publication number: 20060143170
Abstract: A method of estimating an aggregate of a join over data-streams in real-time using skimmed sketches, that only examines each data element once and has a worst case space requirement of O(n2/J), where J is the size of the join and n is the number of data elements. The skimmed sketch is an atomic sketch, formed as the inner product of the data-stream frequency vector and a random binary variable, from which the frequency values that exceed a predetermined threshold have been skimmed off and placed in a dense frequency vector. The join size is estimated as the sum of the sub-joins of skimmed sketches and dense frequency vectors. The atomic sketches may be arranged in a hash structure so that processing a data element only requires updating a single sketch per hash table. This keeps the per-element overhead logarithmic in the domain and stream sizes.

  • Patent number: 7068993
Abstract: In response to the triggering of a user's mobile terminal, such as through pushing a dedicated button, by inputting a predetermined sequence of digits, through a menu selection, or automatically in response to an external input, a digital record containing user-specific information that is stored in the mobile terminal is packetized and transmitted over a signaling channel through the public wireless network, where the one or more packets are marked as being emergency 911 (E911) packets. From the header information in these packets, a Mobile Switching Center (MSC) in the wireless network, recognizes these E911 packets as being destined to that MSC's nearest Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), and transmits the information contained in those packets to that PSAP.

  • Patent number: 7069588
Abstract: The present invention protects network devices from overload and from network packet flood attacks (such as Denial of Service and Distributed Denial of Service attacks) that would otherwise consume available resources, and possibly cause system failure or compromise the system by allowing intrusion. The invention, termed an intelligent cache management system is used to free allocated resources (memory, in particular) for reuse, when under sustained attack. One exemplary embodiment of a cache management system of the present invention is used in connection with session-type packet processing devices of a computer network. The system comprises a memory management database for storing communication traffic classification and memory threshold values, and a memory monitor for tracking overall memory usage and determining when the memory threshold values stored in the memory management database are reached. A cache classifier is used to determine a class into which a given session of communications traffic falls.

  • Patent number: 7069290
Abstract: In the multiplier, a partial product circuit generates a partial product based on a multiplicand operand and outputs of a Booth recoder circuit, which operates on a multiplier operand. The partial product circuit ANDs the multiplicand with a zero Booth recoded output, which indicates whether to zero out the multiplicand. An enable circuit selectively enables the multiplier circuit, and more particularly, disables the multiplier circuit by making the zero Booth recoded output indicate to zero out the multiplicand.

  • Patent number: 7068746
Abstract: A method for synchronizing communications in a wireless communications network wherein time synchronization is performed between a clock master and a clock slave. To achieve synchronization between the clock master and the clock slave, several time synchronization passes are initiated by the clock slave to the clock master. For every pass, each clock slave component generates and transmits a first timing cell containing a transmission time based on the clock slave's component clock, to the clock master. Upon receipt of the first timing cell, the clock master generates and transmits to the clock slave component a second timing cell containing the time the clock master received the first timing cell and the time the clock master transmitted the second timing cell. Upon receipt of the second timing cell, the clock slave component will obtain its reception time and calculate a transmission delay based on the reception time and the timing information contained in the timing cells.

  • Patent number: 7068950
Abstract: A device and technique for aligning an optical carrier signal (e.g., a soliton pulse train) with a data signal in a transmitter. According to the invention, the device is configured to analyze the radio frequency (RF) spectrum of the transmitter's output. In one implementation, the device evaluates the amount of energy in a certain frequency band located near a selected null of the RF spectrum. In another implementation, the device examines the shape of the RF spectrum within that frequency band. In either case, based on the analysis, the device adjusts the phase of the clock signal driving an electro-optic (E/O) modulator in the transmitter. Such adjustment reduces misalignment between the optical carrier signal and data resulting, e.g., from thermal effects in the E/O modulator. The device may be used, e.g., in long-haul optical transmission systems operating at 10 GBit/s.

  • Patent number: 7068409
Abstract: A freely rotatable micromechanical plate is achieved by employing at least three rotatable plates that are each suspended from a substrate via respective springs, and are coupled via other respective springs to at least three moveable plate attachment points, so that rotation of the rotatable plates about an axis transfers motion to the moveable plate attachment points. Respective posts couple the movement of each respective moveable plate attachment point to a moveable plate. In operation, the rotatable plates may be individually rotated, and the resulting motion of each rotatable plate is passed to its respective moveable plate attachment point. The combined motion of the moveable plate attachment points is passed to the moveable plate via the posts. Using proper control, the plate may be made to tip, tilt and piston. Advantageously, the piston motion may achieve a high vertical movement frequency response.

  • Publication number: 20060133809
Abstract: Systems and techniques for multiple bit rate optical data transmission. A passive optical network includes an optical line termination unit (OLT) connected to one or more optical network units (ONUs) by optical elements. The OLT is capable of performing downstream transmission to the ONUs at each of a variety of different bit rates, and each ONU performs upstream transmission at one or more bit rates. The OLT can sense a bit rate of a received transmission and change its operation so as to receive and process the transmission exhibiting the sensed bit rate. Each of the ONUs receives and processes downstream transmissions at one or more bit rates, but each ONU is capable of maintaining a phase and frequency lock to downstream transmissions at all bit rates supported by the OLT. One or more of the ONUs may also receive and process downstream transmissions exhibiting different or changed bit rates.
