  • Patent number: 10930825
Abstract: A method of fabricating closely spaced pcLEDs arranged in a matrix array of perpendicular rows and columns comprises an initial phosphor deposition step in which phosphor is deposited at alternating locations (pixels) in the matrix array in a checkerboard pattern, so that the locations in the array at which phosphor is deposited are not adjacent to each other. In a subsequent phosphor deposition step phosphor is deposited at the alternating locations at which phosphor was not deposited in the first deposition step. In between the two phosphor deposition steps, reflective or scattering structures may be fabricated on sidewalls of the phosphor pixels to optically isolate pcLEDs in the resulting array from each other.

  • Patent number: 10917957
Abstract: An LED circuit board, system, and method of using an LED configuration tool are described. The LED circuit board contains a microprocessor that wakes up when power is supplied from the tool. The microprocessor determines that the tool is present by sending a signal from one pin and detecting whether the same signal is received at another pin. When analog or digital programming information received from the tool indexes the information in a table of the microprocessor or also uses a new table provided by digital programming information, the programming information is used to change a lighting configuration of the LEDs. Feedback from the microprocessor to the tool provides information regarding the status of programming the microprocessor.

  • Patent number: 10916683
Abstract: A light emitting device includes a vertical via through the P-type semiconductor layer and the active layer. Using a vertical via reduces quantum well damage, allows shortening of P-N spacing, and allows increased reflective area. A dielectric structure is formed in the via to provide a sloped wall that extends to an upper surface of the device. Another dielectric layer covers the upper surface and the sloped wall, and provides select contacts to the semiconductor layers. A metal layer is subsequently applied. Because the dielectric layers provide a continuous slope from the surface of the device, the metal layer does not include a vertical drop. Because the active layer does not extend into the via, the contact to the N-type semiconductor layer may be situated closer to the wall of the via, increasing the area available for a reflective layer.

  • Patent number: 10908334
Abstract: An infrared illumination and detection system can include an infrared light source that can emit infrared light having a first wavelength. A visible light source positioned adjacent the infrared light source can emit visible light that overlaps the emitted infrared light. An infrared detector assembly, positioned adjacent the infrared light source and the visible light source, can include a wavelength-sensitive filter that can block wavelengths away from the first wavelength. The infrared detector assembly can include a sensor that can sense light at the first wavelength. The emitted infrared light can appear red when viewed by the human eye in the absence of the emitted visible light. The emitted visible light can optionally be sufficiently bright so as to substantially eliminate viewed redness when the infrared light and the visible light are viewed, together, by the human eye. Alternatives to reduce or eliminate the perceived redness are also provided.

  • Patent number: 10901142
Abstract: Interlocking light emitting diode (“LED”) light guide tiles are disclosed. The tiles have interlocking edge features that provide physical interlock fitting between tiles and present a continuous appearance, both in an “on,” where LEDs are powered on and emitting light state and an “off” state, where LEDs are powered off and not emitting light. The LED light guide tiles interface with LEDs (housed in or embodied as integrated circuit LED packages) to output light through the surfaces of the light guide. The interlocking edge features of the light guide tiles are shaped to obscure or block an image of the LED packages from being seen by observers looking at the light guide tiles. Light guide tile assemblies or installations can be easily formed out of interchangeable tiles with little or no requirement for relative directional alignment of the tiles.

  • Patent number: 10903266
Abstract: Pixelated array light emitters are formed with closely-spaced pixels having ultra-smooth sidewalls. In methods for making such pixelated array light emitters, a converter layer of phosphor particles dispersed in a binder is disposed on a carrier, and then singulated by saw cuts or similar methods to form an array of phosphor pixels. The binder is fully cured prior to singulation of the converter layer. Further, the carrier is rigid rather than flexible. As a consequence of fully curing the binder and of using a rigid carrier to support the converter layer, singulation results in phosphor pixels having smooth side walls. The array of phosphor pixels is subsequently attached to a corresponding array of LEDs with an adhesive layer, separate from the binder used to form the converter layer. The pixel sidewalls may be formed with controlled morphology, for example at acute or obtuse angles with respect to the carrier.
