  • Patent number: 5271807
Abstract: A headbox includes a nozzle type stock channel with an outlet gap. The nozzle type stock channel is defined by two flow guide walls. Arranged on the discharge end of the upper flow guide wall is a movable aperture to which attach numerous adjustment spindles which are arranged distributed across the machine width. Each adjustment spindle has on its end away from the aperture a spindle drive. Provided on the upper end of each spindle is a measuring device serving the determination of the local position of the aperture. The measuring device has a measuring housing and a measuring element movable in it. The measuring element is connected positively with the aperture, independently of the spindle, by way of a measuring rod. The measuring housing is positively connected with the area of the flow guide wall on the near side of the aperture, by way of an oblong tubular measuring reference.

  • Patent number: 5272316
Abstract: A heating apparatus for providing heat and a resting place for reptiles or the like. The heating apparatus includes a housing and a heating device located at a selected level within the interior of the housing. When the reptile rests on an upper surface of the housing and the heating device is activated, heat is conveyed to the upper surface by convection currents. The housing resembles a limb and branches to simulate the natural habitat of the reptile. The limb is held above the bottom surface of the enclosure containing the reptile. The limb is injection molded and includes two body halves that are matingly joined together after the heating device is desirably positioned relative to the body halves. The branches are movable relative to the limb and one of the branches includes a channel for concealing portions of the electrical cord connected to the heating device.

  • Patent number: 5269502
Abstract: A clamping head assembly for clamping frame members in an underpinning machine includes a pair of clamping members each of which has upper and lower elements spring biased apart. The lower element carries a friction pad and is connected by a pin and slot connection or a parallelogram linkage to the upper element. Downward pressure on the clamping members causes slight longitudinal movement of the friction pad tending to pinch together the frame members at a mitre joint where they are held, for example, for underpinning.

  • Patent number: 5269940
Abstract: A flocculation system for water treatment facilities comprises a flocculation tank having a plurality of baffles which divide the interior of the flocculation tank into a plurality of compartments. The baffles are arranged to provide intercompartmental openings between adjacent upstream and downstream compartments, which, in turn, are arranged to provide a serpentine flow path through the flocculation tank. A mechanical mixer is mounted in each compartment for supplementing the mixing energy provided by the serpentine flow, particularly during periods of low water flow rates.

  • Patent number: 5270670
Abstract: A circuit is provided for an oscillator circuit comprising a differential amplifier such as an ECL line receiver which directly, in one step outputs a symmetrical square wave signal. This is obtained by means of a symmetrical connection of the bias voltage to the input terminals of the ECL-line receiver through two substantially equally large resistors. A feedback loop comprises, as is conventional, a crystal and a trimming capacitor or a capacitor which may be controlled in some other way as well as a resistor. The capacitor will together with the resistor form a low-pass filter for the control of the oscillating condition of the circuit. Further, an overtone synthesizer is provided adapted to generate even multiples of the frequency of an input signal and it comprises a second ECL line receiver, the positive and negative output terminals of which are directly connected to each other.

  • Patent number: 5268310
Abstract: A mesa-type PIN diode and method for making same are disclosed. A diode made according to the present invention includes a junction formed in the top surface of the mesa-shaped structure, having an area that is less than (and preferrably, approximately half) the area of the top surface. A highly-doped, N-type conducting layer is formed in the side-walls of the mesa-shaped structure. The resulting diode is subject to greatly reduced charge carrier recombination effects and suffers from much less carrier-to-carrier scattering than conventional diodes. Thus, a diode made according to the present invention is capable of achieving much higher stored charge, lower resistance, lower capacitance, better switching characteristics, and lower power consumption than one made according to the prior art. Particular utility is found, inter alia, in the areas of high-frequency microwave and monolithic circuits.

  • Patent number: 5267518
Abstract: A process and device for monitoring the bobbin thread on stitch-forming machines, on the bobbin of which a residual amount of thread is wound in a winding direction opposite the direction of winding of the principal amount of thread, is to ensure that a first control function will be generated at the beginning of consumption of the residual amount of thread, and a second control function is generated nearly without delay in the case of thread end or thread break. To achieve this, two signal patterns are received with a phase shift from a bobbin acting as a signal generator, and the first signal function is generated in the case of a deviation of the actual phase shift from the desired phase shift. If only one signal pattern is received, this first control function is also generated if its signal sequence deviates from a reference signal sequence. The second control function is generated if a stoppage of the bobbin lasts longer than a predeterminable number of stitches.

  • Patent number: 5267268
Abstract: A method of reducing in a digital time multiplex mobile telephony system the risk of poor reception as a result of the occurrence of points of low signal strength, so-called zero points. Transmission from fixed stations is performed with a polarization direction which is changed stepwise between different parts of the transmitted information. This causes the fading patterns around receiving stations to change in time, and also causes any zero points to be moved in the geography, therewith making it improbable that more than a small part of an information frame will be lost. In the case of a GSM-type system, the polarization direction is changed for each new TDMA-frame.
