Abstract: A cutting-off device and at least one tear detector are provided for cutting a web of paper in a press end of a paper machine, in response to a tear in the web of paper in a single-tier dryer end, the tear of the web of paper being recognized via a tear signal and transmitted to the cutting-off device. The tear detector has a transmission/reception base unit, which, on the one hand, at the start of a production cycle, or whenever a tear in the paper web is detected, records and stores the spectrum of the existing shade of color of the corresponding dryer felt, and possibly updates the stored shade of color at the time of subsequent tears. On the other hand, upon a later tear in the paper web, the base unit compares the shade of color of the dryer felt at the existing tear and the previously stored shade of color. If they match, the base unit activates the cutting-off device when (and only when) the stored shade of color of the dryer felt is recognized.

Abstract: A composition of acetal resin infused with one or more polyglycols to impart an improved tribological property. The composition is produced by mixing a powdered or granulated polyoxymethylene homopolymer (or copolymer) in the range from about 75% to about 95% by weight, with from about 25 to about 5% by weight of one or more polyglycols. Examples disclosed include compositions in which the single polyglycol comprises a polyethylene glycol, an ethylene oxide-propylene glycol monobutyl ether, a diethylene glycol n-butyl ether, an ethylene oxide-propylene oxide polyglycol, and a propylene glycol monobutyl ether. Preferably, if an oil soluble polyglycol is added, either a polyethylene glycol or a propylene glycol monobutyl ether is included to serve as a compatibilizer for the oil soluble polyglycol.

Abstract: A device provides a sanitary cover for a toilet seat when a toilet seat cover makes contact with a toilet seat as happens when the toilet seat cover is closed. The device includes a toilet seat cover which holds a plurality of toilet seat sanitary covers, and means for clamping a sanitary cover. The means for clamping are disposed at an end of the toilet seat and clamps a portion of a toilet seat sanitary cover when the toilet seat cover and the toilet seat make contact. The act of closing the toilet seat cover clamps a toilet seat sanitary cover kept inside the toilet seat cover and positions it on the toilet seat.

Abstract: Sodium alumino-silicates are produced by silicate/clay reactions under hydrothermal conditions with increased solids during processing while still producing structural materials characterized by low oil absorption values, high total pore volume and increased differential pore volumes. The products are useful as coating pigments for paper and paperboard, paper fillers, paint pigments and as reinforcing pigments for rubber.

Abstract: A device for introducing fuel into the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, includes an injection valve for withdrawing compressed gas from the cylinder and injecting the gas together with the fuel into the cylinder, a mixing chamber in the front part of the valve for the purpose of gas storage and into which mixing chamber fuel is introduced via one or more flow passages opening into the mixing chamber, the injection valve being provided with a lifting valve for control of the gas exchange between the combustion chamber and the mixing chamber in the front part of the valve, and an orifice where the flow passage opens into the mixing chamber located in the area of the seat of the lifting valve.

Abstract: A system and method of preventing groundwater contamination by a plume of liquid born toxic contaminants that includes establishing a dry barrier between a plume of liquid contaminants and the water table to immobilize the toxic contaminants. The dry barrier is formed by transporting dry gas into the barrier region, such as with injector wells, and then removing it and any moisture it has absorbed, such as with extraction wells to create a layer or bowl shaped structure that is so dry that liquid borne contaminants cannot pass therethrough. By maintaining the barrier, the contaminants form an immobile crust above the barrier which assists in prevention of liquid transport of contaminants into the groundwater. The system is particularly effective when radioactive contaminants are involved because the contaminants can remain fixed and undisturbed underground.

Abstract: A method and device for docking a rimmed crust carried on an intermittently moving conveyor is provided. The device has a vertical reciprocating piston positioned above the rimmed crest, a plate supported by the piston, a plurality of pins protruding downwardly from the plate in a predetermined docking pattern, a stripper plate supported from and below the plate wherein the stripper plate has a plurality of holes arranged to allow the pins to penetrate therethrough, resilient springs positioned between the stripper plate and the plate to force the stripper plate and the plate apart, and a controller to operate the piston to move the plate toward the conveyor and to lift the plate away from the conveyor. A method of perforating a plurality a rimmed crust of dough is also provided.

Abstract: A catheter that provides precise temperature control for treating diseased tissue. The catheter may use a variety of passive heat pipe structures alone or in combination with feedback devices. The catheter is particularly useful for treating diseased tissue that cannot be removed by surgery, such as a brain tumor.

Abstract: A track working machine includes a machine frame extending in longitudinal direction along a track and supported by undercarriages for mobility in an operating direction along the track. The machine frame exhibits a first work section situated between two undercarriages and a second work section immediately trailing the first work section in the operating direction. A self-propelled transport unit travels along guide rails which are mounted in the longitudinal direction onto the machine frame. The machine frame is formed in the area of the first work section essentially by two parallel beams extending in the longitudinal direction and spaced transversely to the machine frame, with the parallel beams being connected together by a traverse heading disposed above the guide rails to thereby enable the transport unit to move from the second work section underneath the traverse heading into the first work section.

Abstract: Safety device to be mounted on a parallelepipedic box comprises a frame (10) constructed to encircle the box and having an insert opening (11) for the box and a blocking element (13) displaceably and pivotably mounted to the frame, the blocking element being adjustable between a blocking position and an off position to prevent in the blocking position the box inserted into the frame from being withdrawn from the frame. A spring blade (22) clamped at one end thereof in the blocking element extends in the displacement path of the blocking element to engage at the other, free end thereof behind a shoulder (25) on the frame and thus to prevent displacement of the blocking element in the blocking position, wherein positive engagement is established between the blocking element and the frame in order to prevent the blocking element from pivoting.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a water treatment system including a treatment tank having an ion-exchange mineral bed or filter bed therein, and a valve head assembly disposed on top of and in fluid communication with the treatment tank. The valve head assembly includes a passage for allowing a flow of fluid through the valve head assembly, a vacuum pressure creating device disposed within the passage, a drain disposed within the passage and at a downstream side of the vacuum pressure creating device, and a valve disposed within the passage and at a downstream side of the vacuum pressure creating device. The valve is movable to an open position and a closed position for allowing fluid flow through the vacuum pressure creating device, whereby a portion of fluid flows through the drain and a lesser remaining portion of fluid flows through the valve when the valve is in the open position.

Downstream in the path of the web past the guide member, a doctor element is supported spaced from the tip of the guide member for defining a pressure space between the a guide member and the doctor element. Coating composition is fed through a feed channel between the guide member, on the one hand, and the doctor element and the supports for the doctor element up to the pressure space, on the other hand. An exit slot from the pressure space between the guide member and the web is defined at the tip of the guide member. The guide member has a guide surface down from the tip of the guide member, on the side of the guide member away from the doctor element which faces generally toward the web. The guide surface defines a return channel for coating composition that has moved out of the pressure space and through the slot.

Abstract: A method for forming a pattern on a shoe sole includes preparing a film having a pattern attaching and transferring to an EVA material. The EVA material is then molded so as to allow infiltrating of the pattern in the EVA material and so as to form a shoe sole. The pattern is solidly formed on the outer peripheral surface of the shoe sole and will not be easily worn out. The shoe sole includes a cavity formed in the bottom portion for receiving an insert. The insert may be made of waste or recycled EVA materials.

Abstract: This invention involves a method of optically whitening clay minerals to transform their natural yellow tint to increased whiteness. Generally, it has been found that clay materials having low cation exchange capability can be directly reacted with very small amounts of cationic dyes, the apparent whiteness of said clay minerals being substantially increased thereby.
