  • Patent number: 5577142
Abstract: In the case of the above devices, exact adjustment is very important; however, the devices ought to be very compact. It is not sufficient to utilize the silicon etching technique for the precision. The optical transmitting element (LD) is situated on a first carrier (T1), the optical receiving element (PD) and the transmission fiber (Fa) are situated on a third carrier. Provided in between them is a second carrier (T2) which is transparent to the wavelength of the light emitted by the transmitting element (LD). The carriers are structured by means of anisotropic etching in order to make possible the accommodation of the individual components. In addition, the carriers lie flat on one another and can thus be adjusted. A monitor diode (MD) is provided. Application of the arrangement in all transmission systems having optical waveguides.

  • Patent number: 5575709
Abstract: A rail grinding machine for grinding rails of a track includes a machine frame with rollers for support on both rails of the track and a swivel drive for swingably mounting a carrier frame to the machine frame for rotation about a pivot axis which extends longitudinally in direction of the track. A grinder is adjustably secured to the carrier frame in an area of one rail, with a drive motor for supplying energy to the swivel drive and the grinder being secured to the machine frame at an area distant to the carrier frame. The distance of the carrier frame and its pivot axis from a support roller located opposite to the grinder is reducible by a length compensation unit which includes a pressure-exerting element for applying in opposition to the distance reduction a force by which the grinder is pressed against a rail head inner flank of the rail being ground.

  • Patent number: 5577055
Abstract: A method and a circuit device control insertion and storage of digital information in a memory and retrieval of the information from the memory. The method and circuit device ensure the digital information is correctly read out of the memory in the form of a number of coordinated bit positions, and the digital information is used to control one or several functions. The information intended to be inserted into the memory is given an address belonging to the memory. First control-sum-carrying bit positions are calculated from the bit positions of the digital information and their values coming into the memory according to a selected evaluation function. The bit positions of the digital information are stored in an address within the memory, and the first control-sum-carrying bit positions are stored in an address within a control memory.

  • Patent number: 5576690
Abstract: Push button controlled wireless transmitters send digitally encoded signals to a plug-in receiver/signaling device. The receiver/signaling device has a microprocessor suitably programmed to respond to signals from a transmitter bearing the discrete address of the receiver, and to decode a transmitter identification code. Thereupon the microprocessor supplies an audio output circuit with signals to simulate selectively mechanical front or back door chimes, and supplies signals to energize a strobe lamp to emit bursts of multiple flashes, the number of flashes in a burst identifying the specific transmitter, whereby a person with a hearing deficiency is informed as to which transmitter is being actuated.

  • Patent number: 5576486
Abstract: An electronic liquid flow measuring system has a power source, a main electronic flow meter and a secondary liquid low flow electronic meter connected to bypass the main meter. A microprocessor controls flow measurements and a three-position valve is connected to both meters for closing the main flow meter at very low flows to permit only the secondary liquid flowmeter to operate at such low flows. At normal flows, the valve is in a position to allow liquid to flow through both meters and when liquid flow exceeds a predetermined flow rate, the valve blocks all flow.
