Abstract: A cleaning system using balls for cleaning fluid-conducting tubing including separation apparatus for separating the balls before recirculation by ball recirculation apparatus. The separation apparatus includes a conduit having an inlet in flow communication with the downstream side of the tubing, a ball outlet connected to the inlet of the ball recirculation apparatus and a fluid outlet connected to an outlet fluid line, and a generally cylindrical sieve substantially extending between the inlet and the ball outlet.
Abstract: The invention relates to a sickleless internal gear pump with an internally toothed ring gear and a pinion meshing with the ring gear. The pinion and ring gear are rotatably mounted in a housing having a suction port and a pressure port. The ring gear includes radial ports for the medium to be pumped. The tooth heads of the ring gear or the tooth heads of the pinion have a profile groove into which a plurality of sealing elements are respectively inserted. The sealing elements are able to slide on the radially opposite tooth of the pinion or ring gear. The invention is characterized by a profile groove, viewed in axially perpendicular section, which has no ports. The individual sealing elements are provided with a channel establishing a fluid connection between the interior of the profile groove and the sealing face of the sealing element. The channel, viewed in the direction of rotation of the pinion, is enveloped by the material of the sealing element.
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for measuring pressure in a pressure containing vessel with a non-intrusive, metal-embedded fiber optic pressure sensor. The pressure containing vessel may, for example, be the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine. A Fabry-Perot Interferometer is arranged in a terminated, single mode fiber to function as a strain gauge. The fiber Fabry-Perot Interferometer (FFPI) is embedded in a metal part which may be disposed in a wall of the pressure containing vessel. The metal part and FFPI experience a longitudinal strain in response to the pressure in the vessel. In another aspect of the invention, a non-intrusive fiber containing the FFPI may be embedded along the axis of a metal bolt. The bolt may be used to attach a part or structure, which is directly exposed to the pressure, to the wall of the vessel. Consequently, the bolt and FFPI experience a longitudinal strain in response to the pressure on the part or structure.

Abstract: A photoelectric position indicator comprises a scale phase grating, and a scanning unit movable along a measuring direction and comprising a scanning phase grating, which is movable relative to the scale phase grating, a light source, a collimator, and photodetectors, which from the interference patterns formed by the light diffracted by the gratings receive groups having a predetermined order of diffraction and produce periodic phase-displaced actual-value signals in dependence on the orders of diffraction of said groups during a movement of the scanning unit relative to the scale phase grating. To ensure a generation of signals which can easily be evaluated and to permit larger assembling tolerances, the scanning unit comprises a light-directing phase grating arranged to fan the light from the light source transverse to the measuring direction so as to form component light beams, and the photodetectors receive the groups of the interference patterns generated by one of the component light beams.
Abstract: An apparatus automatically generates a tape having splice area and other markings which indicate acceptable splice points on a length of fabric from which garment pattern pieces are to be cut. The apparatus includes a computer for calculating splice and other pertinent points on a fabric layup. The apparatus also includes a controller for receiving printing commands from the computer. The apparatus also includes a printer responsive to signals from the controller for quickly and accurately printing on the tape splice information and data identifying the marker for which the splice point indicating tape was generated. The apparatus also includes a tape advance system for advancing the tape from a supply roll to the printer and then to a takeup roll.

The ball recirculation apparatus has an inlet at the downstream side of the tubing and an outlet at the upstream side of the tubing. The liquid recirculation apparatus has an inlet in flow communication with the ball recirculation apparatus and an outlet at the upstream side of the tubing. Also, an apparatus for injecting a volume of liquid from a source of liquid into a liquid conducting system including a compressor.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for desulfurizing a gas and regenerating a sorbent is disclosed. The sulfur-containing feed gas which can be an effluent gas from a coal gasification reactor, for example, is desulfurized with a particulated metallic oxide sorbent in a transport riser. The sulfided sorbent is than separated from a desulfurized effluent gas and regenerated by contact with an oxygen-containing gas in a transport riser. The regenerated sorbent is separated from an SO.sub.2 containing offgas and recycled to the desulfurization step. The degree of sorbent conversion in the desulfurization step is held at a low level and the sorbent regeneration rate is increased to avoid excessive temperature rise in the regeneration step. In such manner, sorbent cooling can be substantially eliminated. The regeneration riser preferably comprises a once-through lift riser to minimize the riser transport gas requirements to just oxidant gas or oxidant gas mixed with a reduced amount of diluent gas.

Abstract: An integrated middle distillate upgrading process and unit are disclosed. A middle distillate side-stream of a conventional single stage hydrocracking process is circulated to a hydrotreating stage such as an aromatics saturation reactor and/or a catalytic dewaxing reactor to effect middle distillate upgrade. The upgraded product is then finished in a fractionation stage side-stripper column. The integrated hydrotreating reactor can share the duty of existing hydrocracker stage equipment and take advantage of existing process heat to eliminate the need for much of the equipment generally required by a stand-alone hydrotreating reactor of the prior art.

Abstract: In a method of producing molten pig iron from lumpy, iron-ore-containing charging substances, the latter are reduced in a reduction shaft furnace by means of a reducing gas, wherein the iron sponge particles obtained are melted in a melter gasifier under supply of coal and oxygen-containing gas under simultaneous formation of the reducing gas, and the reducing gas is returned to the reduction zone of the shaft furnace. To enable charging of larger amounts of fine ore and/or ore particles, such as oxidic iron fine dust incurred in a metallurgical plant, in addition to the charging substances, the fine ore and/or the ore dust is supplied with solid carbon carriers to at least one dust burner working into the melter gasifier and is reacted in a substoichiometric cumbustion reaction.

Abstract: This device is easily detachable. When the arrow makes impact, the dart with the transmitter remains in the target. The impact activates the transmitter which puts out a signal that can be picked up by the receiver.Because the device is small and ver light and has a counter-balance, it won't interfere with the accuracy and the flight of the arrow. This allows the archer to find the game faster and easier.
