  • Patent number: 5439859
Abstract: Alkanes are dehydrogenated by passage through alternating dehydrogenation zones and selective oxidation zone(s), in which latter zone(s) hydrogen produced in the preceding endothermic dehydrogenation reaction is selectively oxidized to generate heat for the succeeding dehydrogenation reaction. New catalyst compositions are prepared comprising reduced and sulfided nickel crystallites on siliceous supports which have been treated with chromium compounds and oxidized to provide surface-anchored chromyl species. Also new catalyst compositions are prepared by sulfiding nickel-containing compositions with carbonaceous sulfur compounds such as dialkylsulfoxides. Another embodiment of the invention is catalyst and dehydrogenation therewith, in which pores having radius of 50 to 200 Angstroms occupy pore volume from 0.30 to 1.50 ml per gram of the support, and pores having radius of 20 to 50 Angstroms occupy pore volume less than 0.1 ml per gram of the support.

  • Patent number: 5438329
Abstract: The remote instrument reading and telemetry system of the present invention includes at least one instrument link interconnected to a data gathering device and a remote station interrogation apparatus. The interrogation apparatus and instrument link both include radio transmitters and receivers so information and instructions can be communicated between them. In the interrogation mode, the interrogation apparatus instructs the instrument link to transmit information (e.g., data from the data gathering device) in a specified manner, within certain time frames, and in a specific frequency channel. Before requesting the transmission of information, the interrogation apparatus determines which of the available reply radio channels is the best for transmission of information and instructs the instrument link to use this reply channel.

  • Patent number: 5438154
Abstract: A holiday action and musical display (10) comprising a plurality of separate display units (40, 42, 44, 46) electrically connected to a central control unit (12). Each display unit contains a figurine (147) resembling a character representation which is capable of being moved from a first position where the figurine is partially blocked from a user's view, to a second position where the figurine is visible to a user. The central control unit accesses several pluralities of stored sounds and phrases which are stored in electronic memory (305), with the sounds of each plurality having a common timbre distinct from the timbres of the other pluralities of sounds, and with each timbre being associated with a particular character representation. The accessed sounds are played on a speaker (12) and the central control unit synchronizes the movements of the figurines with the accessed sounds so that the figurines appear to be jointly singing one of a plurality of stored melodies.

  • Patent number: 5437885
Abstract: A method for processing a dehulled, defatted oilseed protein meal, e.g., soybean meal, to produce non-porous, meat-like fibers comprises preparing an oilseed protein source and water mixture, extruding the mixture under predetermined conditions, coating the extruded mixture with an edible oil or fat and then further extruding the oil- or fat-coated fibers under specified conditions. The mixture may further comprise meats, fruits, and/or other vegetables as a source of water. The extrusion conditions and the oil or fat coating act to inhibit the expansion of the extruded, non-spongy fibers. The resulting product has a non-porous texture and resembles broiled meat fibers.

  • Patent number: 5435066
Abstract: Provided is an ergonomic cutting device for cutting casts and other rigid objects comprising an oscillating cutting blade driven by a motor, a handle, and a vacuum system. The present cutting device is designed such that the offset positioning of the motor enables the weight of the motor to help manipulate and make more efficient the device. The vacuum system cools the device and draws dust produced by the cutting blade through the device without contacting the dust with the motor or other mechanical components. The motor is designed to initially engage in an idle mode when the device is turned on, then automatically sense when a load is placed on the cutting blade and, at that point, boost to a cutting mode. The motor may also be manually placed in a higher powered turbo mode. The device also includes a dynamic braking system which enables the device to stop oscillation of the blade faster than previous device.
