  • Patent number: 7474648
Abstract: A time slot boundary of an unknown cell in a telecommunications system is identified by correlating a received signal with a known code over a range of delay values for each of one or more time slots, wherein the known code is used by all cells in the telecommunications system. Only for each of the delay values that are not associated with a known cell, correlation values obtained at each of the one or more time slots are accumulated. The time slot boundary is identified by determining which of the delay values is associated with a highest accumulated correlation value. One or more stored monitored delay sets may be used to determine which delay values are not associated with a known cell. The one or more stored monitored delay sets may be filtered using delay information obtained over a period of time.

Abstract: Locating potential licensees and infringers of a patent or other intellectual property can be facilitated by determining whether someone other than the property owner is trying or has tried to patent the same or related subject matter. For example, if an applicant files a patent application but does not respond to an action or other patentability opinion by a patent office that cites prior art references, then it can be presumed that one or more of the cited references must be of interest for the applicant, and vice versa with respect to the owners of the cited references. References cited and, if desired, whether an applicant has responded to a patent office's patentability opinion can be determined from patent data publicly available in computer databases maintained by many patent offices around the world.

  • Publication number: 20090005121
Abstract: Systems and methods which utilize antenna pattern or antenna beam scanning techniques to provide communication of payload traffic are shown. A base station radio is provided wireless communication links with a plurality of stations for communication of payload traffic between the base station and stations using a succession of antenna patterns. The antenna patterns are scanned in succession, such as randomly, quasi-randomly, sequentially, or according to a schedule. An antenna pattern scheduler may be used to implement antenna pattern scanning and traffic timing. Cooperative scheduling with respect to a plurality of base stations may be provided. Selection of the plurality of antenna patterns used by a base station is preferably adjusted from time to time, such as based upon environment, usage patterns, etcetera.

  • Patent number: 7471948
Abstract: A method and device for processing a message in a UE (user equipment) mobile telecommunications device. The UE device receives a CUC (Cell Confirmation Confirm) message and, in response, determines whether the UE device has an empty cell identifier variable. If so, The UE device then determines whether the CUC message includes a cell identifier and, if not, and if the CUC message would cause the UE device to enter a state that requires the UE device to respond to the message before entering the a next state, carrying out at least one further step such as setting INVALID_CONFIGURATION to TRUE in the UE device prior to entering the state.

  • Publication number: 20080316091
Abstract: Reliable and efficient search windows are provided by allowing the adaptation of the code search window to be dependent on inaccuracy measures of relations between a cellular frame time and a satellite reference time. This inaccuracy is calculated in a positioning node (21) of the cellular communications system (1), preferably by filtering of measurements received from user equipments. Linear trend Kalman filtering followed by post processing of estimation errors is presently preferred. In order to ensure non-ambiguous interpretation of the received time stamps of received satellite signals (55) provided by user equipments (10), a pseudo propagation delay is computed in both the user equipment (10) and the positioning node (21) based on GPS acquisition assistance data. The GPS time stamp is then defined referring to the determined pseudo propagation delay. In a preferred embodiment, the pseudo propagation delay is assured to be situated within a pre-determined time interval.

  • Patent number: 7468699
Abstract: An antenna arrangement for a Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) radio system, the antenna arrangement transmitting and receiving in three essentially uncorrelated polarizations. The arrangement includes three parallel, stacked patches separated by first and second slots. A first feeding line feeds the first patch, and at least a second and third feeding line feed the second patch. In a first operating mode, the first feeding line generates a first constant E-field in the first slot between the edges of the first and second patches. In a second operating mode, the second feeding line contributes to a second, sinusoidally varying E-field in the second slot between the edges of the second and third patches. In a third operating mode, the third feeding line contributes to a third, sinusoidally varying E-field in the second slot between the edges of the second and third patches.

  • Patent number: 7466983
Abstract: Methods of handling messages at an interface in a communication system include the steps of receiving a message having an information element indicating the message's type, determining whether a frequency of receipt of messages of a predetermined type exceeds a threshold, handling the message in a normal way if the frequency does not exceed the threshold, and discarding the message if the frequency exceeds the threshold and the message is of the predetermined type. Such methods are useful in avoiding overloads after re-starts of serving GPRS support nodes or base station systems in packet-switched communication systems.

  • Patent number: 7466658
Abstract: Coded digital data symbols sent from a transmitter through a transmission channel of a communications network are received in a receiver. An estimate, represented by a first number of bits, of a sent data symbol is calculated, and a second number of bits, lower than the first number, is selected from the estimate to achieve a rounded estimate represented by the second number of bits. The rounded estimate is decoded to achieve a decoded data symbol. A target value for a block error rate of the transmission channel is received from the network; and the second number of bits is selected in dependence on the target block error rate value. Thus an optimal rounded estimate is provided in most situations, and the method can be performed with the limited computational resources of a terminal.
