  • Patent number: 7454173
Abstract: A load control method is described herein that enables a base station to broadcast three downlink signals including a busy indicator, a maximum resource indicator and a minimum resource indicator to a mobile terminal. In response to receiving the downlink signals, the mobile terminal limits the utilization of a resource (e.g., bit rate, transmission power, power offset) it uses to transmit data to the base station. The mobile terminal may also send an uplink signal including a resource request to the base station. The base station can use the resource request to change the downlink signals if needed. It is with the proper use of these uplink/downlink signals that the behavior of the base station can be automatically optimized to the load situation.

  • Patent number: 7453909
Abstract: The present invention is related to buffering between synchronous circuits communication via a global synchronous bus, and in particular an arrangement for reducing the busload in a TDM bus system by, in a preferred embodiment, introducing a local TEM data bus and an active buffer including a CPU controlled logic between the transceiver loads and the TDM bus. The active buffers in the TX and RX direction together provides a time delay for data travelling from a first local TDM bus out on the backplane TDM bus and back to a second local TDM of the exact duration of one TDM frame or an integer number of TDM frames.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for handling incoming service requests, where an application server comprises a set of traffic modules, each being capable of handling at least one predetermined multimedia service. When an initial service request is received from a requester, a load balancing function, capable of selecting basically any traffic module in the set of traffic modules, is applied to assign a traffic module in the set of traffic modules for handling the received service request. After processing the request, a response is sent to the requester including a port number associated with the assigned traffic module. When receiving a subsequent service request including a port number indication, a port mapping function is applied to determine the earlier-assigned traffic module associated with the given port number indication, for handling said subsequent service request.

  • Patent number: 7450843
Abstract: In an optical communication link a first node (30) with transmission means (50) and a second node with receiving means (40) are connected by at least two optical fiber transmission paths (100,200). One path serves as the working path, while the remaining path or paths serve as protection paths. The transmission means in the first node is connected to an optical signal power splitter (60) which couples the signal power from the transmitting means unequally into the different transmission paths. This uneven coupling of signal power imposes greater losses in one path than in the other or others. By arranging the splitter to couple a higher proportion of the transmitted optical power into the path that has the highest inherent losses the additional loss imposed on this path is reduced. Thus the maximum path loss between any two nodes can be minimized. This in turn means that the link length and also the size of the network is virtually unaffected by using the same transmitter.

  • Patent number: 7450565
Abstract: A method of setting up a call between first and second nodes of a communication system when the call extends across a circuit switched access network and a packet switched backbone network interconnected by a Media Gateway. A control node obtains from a Home Subscriber Server, the identity of a Media Gateway Control Function controlling that Media Gateway which will terminate the call within the circuit switched access network. The first node calls an access number notified to it by the Media Gateway Control Function, and as part of the call setup procedure, the identity of the Media Gateway selected to terminate the call is communicated to the second node.
