Abstract: A water-base fluid for use in drilling, cementing, workover, fracturing and abandonment of subterranean wells through a formation containing shale which swells in the presence of water. In one illustrative embodiment, the drilling fluid is composed of an aqueous based continuos phase, a weighting agent, and a shale hydration inhibition agent. The shale hydration inhibition agent should have the general formula: in which R and R? independently selected from hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or propyl, and X has a value from 1 to 6. The shale hydration inhibition agent is present in sufficient concentration to substantially reduce the swelling of shale drilling cuttings upon contact with the drilling fluid. The drilling fluid may be formulated to include a wide variety of components of aqueous based drilling fluids, such as weighting agents, fluid loss control agents, suspending agents, viscosifying agents, rheology control agents, as well as other compounds and materials known to one of skill in the art.
Abstract: A single-carrier signal is generated from a number, N, of symbols in a way that results in a low PAPR. This includes generating an initial set of N complex frequency components from the N symbols. Ns different sets of N complex frequency components are generated by, for each of Ns times, permuting the initial set of N complex frequency components by one of Ns possible permutations. Ns different sets of M complex frequency components are generated by mapping each of the Ns different sets of N complex frequency components onto a set of M carrier frequencies. After shaping, an IDFT generates a candidate set of N time-domain symbols from each of the Ns different sets of M complex frequency components. That one of the Ns different candidate sets of N time-domain symbols that is associated with the smallest PAPR is selected for further processing.

Abstract: A system includes a device for setting a material, such as ink, deposited on a textile or graphic. A programmable logic controller includes a power intensity selector and an application module and is operably connected to the device. The application module is capable of generating a power intensity output signal in response to the power intensity selector. Abstract: The details of an apparatus and methods of handling simultaneous universal terrestrial radio access network radio resource control procedures with activation times in a universal mobile telecommunications system user equipment are disclosed herein. According to one aspect, the apparatus includes a message handler to receive a received message from the UTRAN, a sequential processor to receive an ongoing command, a command store connected to the message handler to save the received command. The message handler determines if there is an existing command at the user equipment such that the user equipment appears to the UTRAN as though it were processing the select commands simultaneously while actually processing the existing command sequentially.

Abstract: A software component deployed in a distributed system includes a stub that enables the component to be used remotely. The stub can include its own proxy (or at least a sufficient description of it) that is automatically and dynamically injected to the remote environment. Abstract: A candle insert is provided. Generally, the candle insert contains an elongated tubular member having an internal bore that traverses through a center of the elongated tubular member, where the elongated tubular member has a proximate end and a distal end. The candle insert also contains an enlarged disc-shaped end piece located at the proximate end of the elongated tubular member, where the enlarged disc-shaped end piece contains an indented portion capable of receiving a torque producing tool. Abstract: A method of detecting breaks in a porous element in a material separator is disclosed. A shielding is created in the material separator to form a barrier to RF energy. The shielding is formed with a path through the barrier capable of allowing RF energy and material to flow therethrough. The electrically conductive porous element is positioned fully across the path. An RF signal is transmitted on one side of the porous element, and signal levels of the RF signal are detected on the other side of the porous element, such that the detected RF signal crosses the porous element. A baseline signal strength indicator is established from the detected signal levels using an unbroken porous element. An operative signal strength indicator is generated from the detected signal levels. Breaks in the porous element are detected by comparing the operative signal strength indicator against the baseline signal strength indicator.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for estimating a gain offset between two channels in a communication system. The gain offset arises from the system's transmission of signals on the two channels at different powers. The estimated gain offset is used for determining a set of complex channel estimates.

Abstract: A mobile apparatus and method for recycling an invert emulsion based drilling fluid, in which the invert emulsion based drilling fluid includes an oleaginous component and an aqueous component. The apparatus includes an emulsion breaking tank, a water treatment tank, a filter press, and hydrocarbon filters. The method includes: mixing said invert emulsion drilling fluid with a emulsion breaker, wherein the emulsion breaker is a mixture of an alkyl glucoside and an alkane sulfonate; and separating the oleaginous component of the invert emulsion drilling fluid from the aqueous component of the invert emulsion drilling fluid. The method preferably utilizes an emulsion breaker that is a combination of an anionic surfactant, a nonionic surfactant and an alkyl polyglycoside surfactant.

Abstract: The invention relates to for processing an electromagnetic input signal, wherein the signal is passed through an input to be modified across a plurality of modifying segments using a characteristic of the signal, and wherein the plurality of segments have a plurality of states controlled by a control signal, by determining a reference impedance for the input for one or more states of the plurality of segments; and adaptively adjusting impedance of the input toward the reference impedance. This may be accomplished for example, by using a matching circuit comprising one or more selected from the group consisting of a digital signal processor, a microprocessor, a logic circuit, an integrated circuit, a phase shifter, a resistor, a variable inductor, and a variable capacitor. The matching circuit determines shifts in impedance of the input after a change in state of the segments; and adaptively adjusts the impedance based upon the shift.
Abstract: Method and corresponding agent in a management system of a network. At least one manager and the agent have at least one old Management Information Table (MIT) containing Management Information (MI) from network resources. A Management Information Module of the agent gathers Management Information (MI) from the network resources into a current MIT. A Database Handling Module of the agent, following an event, associates one manager to the event, verifies if the associated manager is associated with one old MIT, builds a Management Information Notification (MIN) from at least the current MIT, associates the associated manager with the current MIT, freezes the current MIT into a further old MIT and creates a further current MIT. A Communication Module of the agent further sends the built MIN to the associated manager.
Abstract: The present invention provides a number of gene markers whose expression is altered in various gliomas. In particular, by examining the expression these markers, one can accurately classify a glioma as glioblastoma multiforme (GM), anaplastic astrocytoma (AA), anaplastic oligodendroglioma (AO) or oligodendroglioma (OL). The diagnosis may be performed on nucleic acids, for example, using a DNA microarray, or on protein, for example, using immunologic means. Also disclosed are methods of therapy.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a system for determining a transfer function for emphasizing an electromagnetic signal prior to being processed by determining a discrete transfer function for a processing system, such as a wideband phase modulator; determining a target transfer function such that the target transfer function multiplied by the inverse of the discrete transfer function produces a discrete pre-emphasis transfer function; and transforming any unstable poles and/or zeros in the pre-emphasis transfer function to stable poles and/or zeros. The discrete transfer function may be determined, for example, by using an S-function, input and output signals, the inverse-invariant method, and/or the Steiglitz-McBride algorithm. The transformation of the unstable poles and/or zeros may be accomplished using an all pass filter. The target transfer function may be a low pass FIR filter having a gain of about unity across substantially all of the frequency range of said FIR filter.
Abstract: A sampling system for separating gaseous samples from a gas stream containing particulate matter and transporting the gaseous samples to a location outside of the flowing gas stream comprises an inertial filter mounted on the end of a hollow probe, the inertial filter positioned within the flowing gaseous stream. The inertial filter comprises a filter media mounted within a tube such that a portion of the particulate-containing gaseous steam flows through an annular space between the filter media and the tube wall, the gas to be sampled passes through the filter media into an inner space and the filtered gas is then delivered through the hollow probe to analytical devices external to the space containing the flowing gas stream, such as a flue stack.
