  • Patent number: 7244236
Abstract: A specimen trap including a container forming a chamber. A strainer is fixedly positioned within the chamber and defines an upper portion of the chamber and a lower portion of the chamber. The strainer has a porous surface that provides fluidic communication between the upper portion and the lower portion. One tube connection is mounted to the cap and forms a passage through the cap and another tube extends through the cap and through the strainer into the lower portion. The cap is rotatable with respect to the container to form communication between one of the specimen compartments and the one tube connection passage for collection of an independent specimen.

  • Publication number: 20070159275
Abstract: In accordance with principles of the present invention, a two or more pole dielectric resonator circuit is provided with resonators that are elliptical in cross section orthogonal to the longitudinal axis. The resonators are mounted so that they are rotatable about their longitudinal axes, such that the straight line distance between two adjacent resonators measured in a straight line between orthogonal to and intersecting the longitudinal axes of the tow resonators is a function of the orientation of the resonators about their longitudinal axes. The resonators can be oriented about their longitudinal axes in any orientation to adjust their spacing, which is directly proportional to their coupling magnitude, which, in turn, is proportional to the bandwidth of the circuit.

Abstract: The present invention provides a process for determining the quantitative and qualitative profile of the repertoire of a given type of an immunoglobulin (Ig) heavy chain expressed by a lymphocyte B population present in a tissue sample, and kits and uses thereof. It also provides a set of VII forward primers associated with a CII reverse primer, which are respectively capable of specifically hybridizing in stringent conditions with the nucleic acids encoding the variable segments of Ig heavy chains and with the constant segment of a given type of Ig heavy chain, such as preferably IgM, IgG, IgE or IgA heavy chain. Methods for the in vitrodiagnosis of a condition associated with an abnormal expression of the repertoire of a given type of Ig heavy chain, and for the in vitro follow-up of a treatment of such a condition, are also comprised herein.

  • Patent number: 7242910
Abstract: A self-calibrating radio is described. In one exemplary implementation, a radio signal from its local voltage controlled oscillator. The calibration system automatically calibrates the radio by: (i) receiving a reference signal having a calibrated reference frequency, (ii) comparing the local frequency to the reference frequency to determine whether there is a difference between the local frequency and the reference frequency and (iii) adjusting the local frequency by an offset frequency, if the difference between the local frequency and the reference frequency is greater than a threshold value.

  • Patent number: 7241592
Abstract: Antibodies to the CNA protein and to other regions from the collagen binding domain, including domain CNA19, are provided, and antibodies produced in this manner have been shown to be cross reactive to both Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria and which can thus be used in the prevention and treatment of infections caused by both of these types of bacteria. In addition, medical instruments can be treated using the antibodies of the invention in order to reduce or eliminate the possibility of their becoming infected or further spreading the infection. In particular, the proteins are advantageous because they are cross-reactive and may thus be administered to patients so as to reduce or prevent severe infection by staphylococcal bacteria of more than one species.

Abstract: A modularly segmented apparatus for precise borehole pressure control, removing waste from borehole fluid, and recirculating the cleaned borehole fluid includes a pressure control section, a gas separator section, and a waste management section. In the pressure control section, a pressure manifold interconnects a plurality of chokes. A plurality of valves are used to direct the contaminated fluid through one of the chokes, which maintains a precise and predetermined pressure in the system. The manifold, chokes, and valves are mounted on a skid for easy transport. In the gas separator section, a gas separator is used to remove a majority of the gases present in the contaminated borehole fluid. In the waste management section, a vibratory separator removes large solid contaminants from the degassed fluid. The solids are directed to a solids collection container for further treatment or disposal. The fluid is directed to a first pit, which may be one partitioned are of a larger collection tank.

  • Patent number: 7237733
Abstract: The purpose of this invention is to provide a method and an apparatus for producing thermomechanical fibers using less energy per ton that has previously been required for similar type of production. The invention is based in that at least two refiners are combined so that mixture of chips, water and steam is first fed into a first refiner wherein the chips are broken up and the mass flow from the first refiner is then fed into the second refiner for breaking the fibers to final freeness level. The mass flow of steam and fibers is fed forwards at least in the first refiner by the rotational energy of the refiner rotor so that essentially no flowback of the steam occurs. The mass flow exciting the first refiner is fed completely to the second refiner and no steam is extracted from the mass flow before the second refiner.

  • Patent number: 7239677
Abstract: Methods of scaling path delay values in a communication system, in which estimates of received symbols corresponding to the path delays are combined, include the step of determining a respective weight value for each path delay based on relative correlations of the path delays. The weight values may be determined by getting a plurality of path delay values; identifying the path delay values as either peak values or neighbor values; organizing the peak values and neighbor values into groups, with each group including at least one peak value and at least one neighbor value; for each group, determining a set of weight values; and checking the groups for duplicated path delay values and selecting a weight value from the weight values determined for the duplicated path delay values as either one of the weight values for the duplicated path delay values or a combination of the weight values for the duplicated path delay values.

  • Patent number: 7239843
Abstract: The participants of a friendly communication system use so-called time windows in the interference pattern for the communication and transmission among each other. These time windows are preset ahead of time in the communication system by the jamming transmitter or are created and/or adapted individually and short-term with the aid of software programs. Since only the communication-system participants can recognize and/or detect these time windows, they are the only ones that can receive and/or transmit corresponding information during these time windows. The information is compressed in the known manner, such that it can be transmitted and received completely during the brief time window provided. The information can then be decompressed and read during the time of interference in the known manner.

  • Publication number: 20070149581
Abstract: Provided herein include compositions, all related stereoisomers as well as pharmaceutically acceptable salts provided as simplified analogs of pateamine A, in which the analogs generally are devoid of the C3-amino and C5-methyl groups, also referred to as desmethyl, desamino-pateamine A. Suitable analogs provide anticancer and antiproliferative effects in vivo and in vitro by a novel drugs mechanism of action described herein for pateamine A, including inhibition of eIF4A-dependent translation initiation. As with pateamine A, as described herein, suitable analogs cause cell cycle arrest or induce apoptosis in transformed cells. However, toxicity of such compounds to slow growing normal cells is low. In addition, such analogs, like pateamine A, target translation initiation factors and are useful as anticancer and antiproliferative agents in subjects in need thereof.
