  • Patent number: 7205777
Abstract: A capacitive proximity switch for detecting the change in the capacitance relative to a setpoint capacitance by the approach or retreat of an object in the sensitive area of a proximity switch, especially for use in the door handle of a motor vehicle, provides reliable error detection and error suppression at a fundamentally high sensitivity of the capacitive proximity switch by utilizing an evaluation unit that evaluates a measured value of the change in capacitance over time and depending on the time behavior of the measured value activates changes the operating threshold from a first threshold (which can be caused by a false object coming into or out of the sensitive area of the proximity switch) to a higher second threshold which can be reached only at a relatively greater change in capacitance caused by a target object coming into or out of the sensitive area of the proximity switch.

  • Patent number: 7204149
Abstract: A pressure indicating fitting for injection molding equipment comprises a fitting body with a fitting bore therethrough, the fitting body being installed in the equipment with the fitting bore open to the interior of a passage for conveying melt, an indicating member received within the fitting bore and being bonded thereto to be retained in a normal position and being displaced therefrom to an indicating position by force from melt applied to the indicating member sufficient to cause the bond to fail, the indicating position determined by abutting contact of a surface of the indicating member with a surface of the fitting body and exposing a portion of a stem of the indicating member. Advantageously, the indicating member is retained in an indicating position by a press fit between the indicating member and fitting body. An injection molding manifold comprises a pressure indicating fitting in accordance with the invention.

  • Patent number: 7204129
Abstract: An ultrasound system determines the presence of a foreign object in a container of fluid by measuring echo signals from the outer surface of the container and the inner surface of the container. The amplitude of the echo signals are compared to determine the presence of an object in the container. The system also determines viscosity of the contained fluid by measuring a through-transmission time through the container and the fluid, measuring an outer echo transmission time of an outer echo signal from the outer surface of the container and an inner echo transmission time of an inner echo signal from the inner surface of the container, and determining a time difference between the outer echo transmission time and the inner surface transmission time.

  • Patent number: 7206583
Abstract: The invention provides improved suppression of co-channel interference (CCI) in a wireless cellular communications system where at least two base stations use the same transmit frequency. The method according to the invention uses the difference in synchronization times between the home signal and the CCI signal to suppress the CCI signal. The method uses a modified known method of estimating time of arrival (TOA) to estimate sync positions for the CCI signal. This enables the use of interference cancelling methods in communications systems using un-synchronized base stations. Receiver performance is improved, which in turn improves data throughput and received speech quality, since interfering signals from base stations using the same frequency can be suppressed.

  • Patent number: 7205836
Abstract: A high-power, high frequency (1–100 GHz) power amplifier, made using SiGe transistors. A differential common-emitter amplifier section supplies the voltage amplification, allowing the total voltage swing of the amplifier to be twice the breakdown voltage of the individual transistors. Current amplification is supplied by a differential common-emitter amplifier section, connected in cascode with the differential common-emitter amplifier section. Appropriately chosen resonators in the cascode connection resonate out the Miller effect, negative current feed back of the circuit at the amplifier's operational frequency, allowing the amplifier to provide high power output at the operational frequency.

  • Patent number: 7205807
Abstract: A method and apparatus for minimizing harmonic content in a digital signal driver circuit are disclosed. A digital input signal applied to an input node generates a corresponding digital output in a circuit with two or more MOS devices in cascode connection with each other. The slew rate of leading or trailing edge transitions associated with the output signal are controlled using one or more parasitic capacitances associated with the fabrication of two or cascode connected MOS devices. The two or more cascode connected MOS devices may further each have gate electrodes connected to a fixed potential so as to minimize the harmonic content. A control signal may further be applied to each gate electrode to turn off a leakage current path between source and drain electrodes. Harmonics may further be controlled by limiting a conductance between gate electrodes and fixed potentials using an active or passive device.

  • Publication number: 20070080864
Abstract: A patch antenna in accordance with the present invention comprises a patch optionally surrounded by a top ground plane, a feed line disposed beneath the patch and separated therefrom by a thin substrate, a middle ground plane separated from the feed line by another thin substrate, and a bottom ground plane disposed beneath the middle ground plane and preferably separated therefrom by foam or another lightweight dielectric layer. Conductive vias run between the top ground plane and the middle ground plane as well as from the middle ground plane to the bottom ground plane. The middle ground plane is essentially annular, defining an opening in the middle thereof, such that there is a dielectric cavity beneath the patch and the feed line in the space defined by the bottom ground plane, the middle ground plane and the vias that run between the middle ground plane and the bottom ground plane. This cavity can be filled with low cost, low weight foam, rather than the heavier, more costly conventional substrates.

  • Patent number: 7203262
Abstract: A phase locked loop includes a buffer that synchronizes the transmission of the new count value to the completion of the previous count to avoid errors caused by dithering. The buffer is connected to a count input of the counter and transmits the new count upon receipt of the carryout signal from the counter. Alternatively, the transmission of the new value of N from the buffer is delayed after receipt by the buffer of a carryout signal from the counter. In another embodiment, a delayed version of the carryout signal is used to trigger the buffer to transmit the new count value to the counter. In another feature, a buffer synchronizes phase data to a reference signal before inputting it to a digital modulator of the phase locked loop.

  • Patent number: 7201534
Abstract: A manhole access way security apparatus and method for using the security apparatus are disclosed. The security apparatus includes an insert, at least one locking pin and a locking mechanism each interconnected to allow users to easily and quickly install a security barrier under a manhole, handhole or vault, and thereby prevent authorized access through the manhole, handhole or vault. The apparatus uses an insert that may either sit on the existing manhole frame rim under the manhole cover, or if there is insufficient clearance on the manhole frame rim, brackets may be installed under the manhole frame upon which the insert rests. In either configuration, the insert is secured in place under the manhole cover by one or more locking pins that extend radially through the insert and are then locked to the insert.

  • Patent number: 7201537
Abstract: A vibratory concrete screed includes a vibration isolation system that minimizes the transmission of vibrations to the operator under normal operating conditions, but becomes more rigid during screed control forces applied to the blade through the isolation system when the operator applies greater forces to the operator handle. The system includes low durometer elastomer vibration isolators isolating the operator handle from the vibration exciter and screed blade in a manner that limits vertical compressive movement of the isolators, yet permits substantially greater horizontal shear movement to effectively isolate the operator from vibration. The isolator mounting arrangement also includes retainers that engage the isolator to limit the amplitude of horizontal shear movement when the operator applies a greater control force to the operator handle.
