Patent number: 6793814Abstract: Methods and apparatus for separating solid particles from a fluid. One preferred embodiment includes a tank for settling particles out of the fluid, a conical chamber at the bottom of the tank, an outlet connected to conical chamber, and a conical auger within the conical chamber. The tank may have a tangential inlet that creates a fluid circulation that exerts a centrifugal force on the solid particles to increase the settling of particles out of the fluid. The tank may have a static spiral on the inner wall that helps small particles coalesce into larger particles that settle faster out of the fluid. The fluid content of the solids removed from the tank may be controlled by varying the rotational speed of the conical auger. The rotational speed of the conical auger may be varied depending on the torque required to rotate the conical auger.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 2002Date of Patent: September 21, 2004Assignee: M-I L.L.C.Inventors: Gary Fout, Neale Browne

Patent number: 6795777Abstract: According to one embodiment of the present invention, identifying a molecule of a sample includes illuminating the sample with a preparation light beam, where the preparation light beam can initiate a substantially maximized coherence of a target molecule to yield a molecular signature corresponding to the target molecule. The sample is illuminated with a probe light beam, where the probe light beam can scatter radiation from the sample. Radiation scattered from the sample is detected, and whether the radiation exhibits the molecular signature is determined. The target molecule is identified in accordance with the determination of whether the radiation exhibits the molecular signature.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 2003Date of Patent: September 21, 2004Assignee: The Texas A&M University SystemInventors: Marlan O. Patent number: 6790448Abstract: Isolated peptide sequences and proteins containing these sequences are provided which are useful in the prevention and treatment of infection caused by Gram-positive bacteria. The peptide sequences have been shown to be highly conserved motifs in the surface proteins of Gram-positive bacteria, and these consensus sequences include amino acid sequences such as LPXTG (SEQ ID NO:13), ALKTGKIDIIISGMTSTPERKK (SEQ ID NO:14), VEGAWEKPVAEAYLKQN (SEQ ID NO:15), and EYAGVDIDLAKKIAK (SEQ ID NO:16). Publication number: 20040177054Abstract: A driver for a data storage device includes an access command and a verification command. The access command initiates an access (write, erase or read) of the data storage device while allowing a calling application to continue running without having to wait for the completion of the access. The verification command queries a preceding access. If the query indicates failure of the preceding access, the verification command repeats the preceding access until the preceding access succeeds. The verification command is called by the access command before the access command initiates a new access. The verification command also is called by an application following a sequence of related access command calls. A write access command saves the data to be written in a memory separate from the data storage device, in case the verification command needs that data to repeat a failed write.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 3, 2003Publication date: September 9, 2004Applicant: M-SYSTEMS FLASH DISK PIONEERS, LTD.Inventors: Ori Stern, Menahem Lasser

Patent number: 6785246Abstract: A system and method for setting up a multi-party conference call in a packet-switched radio telecommunications network in which a Gatekeeper (GK) has established an on-going two-party call between a first party and a second party. The first party sends an enhanced Facility message to the GK that indicates a multi-party conference call is desired, and includes a globally unique conference identity and a list of telephone numbers for third parties to be joined. A Multipoint Controller (MC) provides an Internet Protocol (IP) address of a Multipoint Processor (MP) to each of the parties, and provides the IP addresses of the parties to the MP. The MC then negotiates media sessions with each of the parties, and sends the negotiation results to the MP. Each of the parties then sends its media payload to the MP where the payloads are mixed and forwarded to the other parties.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 2001Date of Patent: August 31, 2004Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (Publ)Inventor: George Foti
