  • Patent number: 6806233
Abstract: Invert emulsion compositions including an oleaginous, a non-oleaginous and an amine surfactant that are useful in the oil and gas well drilling art are disclosed. The amine surfactant is selected so that the invert emulsion can be converted form a water-in-oil type emulsion to a oil-in-water type emulsion upon the protonation of the amine surfactant. Deprotonation of the amine surfactant reverses the conversion. This solution also permits the conversion of oil-wet solids in the fluid into water-wet solids.

  • Patent number: 6804949
Abstract: The present invention provides a self-replenishing liquid water source onboard an automobile for supplying liquid water to an electrolyzer, such as an on-board hydrogen generator useful for the suppression of unwanted emissions. While automobiles typically have water reservoirs resupplied by a person, the invention provides a passive means of water collection for reliable replenishment due to operations of the automobile itself. The invention provides condensate from the engine exhaust gas by cooling a region of the exhaust system using cooling fluid from the engine coolant system. The cooling fluid is circulated during a period following the engine cold start event when the heat load on the engine coolant system is low.

  • Patent number: 6805034
Abstract: Silicon infiltration technology is used to produce ceramic bodies having utility as ballistic armor. In a first aspect of the invention, the ballistic armor includes a reaction-bonded silicon carbide body (RBSC). Good ballistic performance can be advanced by loading the permeable mass or preform to be infiltrated to a high degree with one or more hard fillers, and by limiting the size of the largest particles making up the mass. In a second aspect, the silicon infiltration technology, e.g., siliconizing or reaction-bonding, is used to bond silicon carbide fibers to at least the back surface of a ceramic armor body, thereby enhancing ballistic stopping power. A third aspect of the invention pertains to the ability to engineer RBSC bodies such that there is little dimensional change during processing, thereby permitting high dimensional reproducibility in large-scale production.

  • Publication number: 20040200806
Abstract: A regeneration process is disclosed for an etching solution composed of a phosphoric acid solution and used in etching silicon nitride films in an etch bath. As a result of the etching, the etching solution contains a silicon compound. According to the regeneration process, the etching solution with a silicon compound contained therein is taken out of the etch bath. Water is then added to the taken-out etching solution to lower a concentration of phosphoric acid in the etching solution to 80 to 50 wt. %. By the lowing of the concentration of phosphoric acid, the silicon compound is caused to precipitate. The thus-precipitated silicon compound is removed from the etching solution. An etching process making use of the regeneration process and an etching system suitable for use in practicing the regeneration process and etching process are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6802763
Abstract: A sharpening apparatus with substantially rigid sharpening wheels disposed substantially fixedly on a rotatable drive shaft. An edge of a blade inserted in a slot in the apparatus comes into contact with a sharpening surface on a sharpening wheel. A sliding block associated with that sharpening surface slidably yields to accommodate the inserted blade and applies a force on the blade towards the sharpening surface. The user may selectively adjust force on the blade to achieve more or less sharpening of the edge of the blade. • Patent number: 6802690
Abstract: Both air duct inlet silencers and air duct outlet silencers for use with a stationary gas turbine are disclosed. The sound attenuating duct unit suitable for connecting to an outlet of a stationary gas turbine includes a housing having a horizontal housing section and a vertical housing section and having sidewalls surrounding a main airflow passageway that extends along a substantial bend. An air inlet is located at one end of the horizontal housing section and is adapted for connection to the outlet of the gas turbine. Preferably two air outlets are located proximate to an upper end of the vertical housing section. Splitters are mounted in the housing, and they divide sections of the main airflow passageway into smaller air passageways. At least one of the splitters is positioned upstream in the main airflow passageway relative to other splitters. The splitters contain sound attenuating material capable of withstanding airflow temperatures in the main airflow passageway of at least 500 degrees Celsius.

  • Patent number: 6802704
Abstract: A latching device (20) for a mold assembly (10) uses a cam action to hold the “A” side plate against the hot runner system/nozzle plate (18) during operation. Preferably, a latch (20) is provided on each side of the mold to effectively hold the “A” side plate against the nozzle plate (18) during the high pressure injection of plastic melt. For purposes of a mold insert change, each latch (20) is rotated to release the “A” side plate from the nozzle plate (18), and hold the “A” side plate against the “B” side plate. This enables the “A” (12) and “B” (14) portions of the mold assembly to be moved away from the nozzle plate (18), thereby avoiding interference of the hot runner nozzles and “A” side insert and enabling quick mold insert change.

  • Patent number: 6803643
Abstract: HBTs in an HBT array are configured non-linearly, i.e., staggered, thus reducing the impact of thermal coupling between adjacent HBTs in the array and bypassing the minimum collector-to-collector spacing design rules required for a linear HBT array. Using this non-linear configuration, adjacent HBTs are misaligned with respect to each other. In a preferred embodiment, adjacent HBTs in the array are configured in a corner-to-corner arrangement, and in a more preferred embodiment, the collectors of the adjacent HBTs are aligned or are common, i.e., the collector of one HBT is shared with the collector of an adjacent HBT. In a most preferred embodiment, the HBTs are ballasted in an emitter-ballast/base-ballast pattern (referred to as “mixed ballasting” or “dual-ballasting”).
