  • Patent number: 6134433
Abstract: In a radio telecommunications network, a system and method of providing service differentiation for call forwarding based upon the type of call. The system provides network support that allows the forwarding of calls of different types to appropriate devices for each type of call, as identified by the call's service code. The system determines whether a call to a mobile station is a data call, and if it is a data call, provides the network support for forwarding the call to a different number than voice calls. A Service Type parameter is added to ANSI-41 signaling messages to inform various nodes in the network of the type of call. The network includes a home location register/service control point (HLR/SCP) with a database of call forwarding (transfer) numbers for its served mobile stations. The database records at least one transfer number for each type of service. Service logic in the HLR/SCP associates the type of call with the appropriate transfer number.

  • Patent number: 6134438
Abstract: A method and system for providing support of local control functionality in a mobile telecommunications system independently of mobile station roaming status is provided. In the invention, upon receiving a registration access message a visited system accesses a database and determines whether the registering mobile station supports local control features supported by the system. If the mobile station and system support common local control features the system returns a local control registration confirmation message in place of the normal system registration confirmation message. The local control registration confirmation message confirms registration and also serves as an indication to the mobile station that the mobile station and system support common local control features. The mobile station and system may now function accordingly to allow use of the common local control features.

  • Patent number: 6131026
Abstract: In response to gateway switching node reception of an incoming call dialed to a certain mobile station and implicating a certain calling service, the gateway switching node queries a home location register for location information on the called mobile station. The home location register then contacts a currently believed serving visited switching node for routing information. The visited switching node and its satellite switching node(s) then poll for the called mobile station. Responsive to a successful poling for the mobile station by the satellite switching node, a communications resource is reserved to handle delivery of the incoming call implicating the certain calling service. If, however, the satellite switching node does not support the implicated calling service, this is detected by the visited switching node and the incoming call is disconnected. A release reserved resources message is then sent to the satellite switching node.

  • Patent number: 6128481
Abstract: A system and method for routing an emergency services call from a mobile station to a selected Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) in a radio telecommunications network. The system intelligently selects the PSAP from a plurality of PSAPs, warns the selected PSAP that the emergency services call is coming prior to routing the call to the selected PSAP, and provides the selected PSAP with advanced information regarding the context of the call. The emergency services call is received by a serving mobile switching center (MSC) which determines that the call is an emergency services call and sends cell or sector information to a service control point (SCP). The SCP includes a PSAP selector which selects the PSAP based on such information as, for example, the location of the mobile station, the Local Access and Traffic Area (LATA) in which the mobile station is located, the time-of-day, and the day-of-week.

  • Patent number: 6126572
Abstract: An apparatus for monitoring and displaying information related to pressure exerted at a point of interest during an isometric exercise includes a fabric base, adapted to receive a body part. A sensor is attached to the fabric base and disposed at the point of interest during the isometric exercise, and measures a pressure magnitude at the point of interest and provides a pressure signal corresponding to the pressure magnitude. A monitor, which receives the pressure signal, processes the pressure signal to derive information that is meaningful to a user, and generates a display signal corresponding to the information derived from the pressure signal. The monitor is coupled by a wireless link to a processing device, which receives the display signal. A display device receives the display signal from the processing device and provides a visual indication of the information to the user. The visual indication of the information may be a metaphorical representation of the pressure signal.

  • Patent number: 6125106
Abstract: Existing communication connections in a cellular telephone base station can become allocated to communication equipment in a less than optimal fashion. To address this problem a detector identifies when an existing communication connection routed through the base station is terminated. The detector informs a processor which calculates a channel allocation for the remaining communication connections currently routed through the base station which optimizes channel utilization. The optimal channel allocation is then implemented through intra-cell handovers.
