Abstract: TIA IS-136 specifies the assignment to mobile stations of a unique international mobile station identification (IMSI) in addition to a mobile identification number (MIN). The IMSI number is communicated from the mobile station to the network, and is processed by the network to provide for non-ambiguous subscriber identification. Accordingly, the IMSI number is transmitted by the mobile station during registration, and processed during authentication to insure accurate and unique subscriber identification. Once registered with an IMSI instead of a MIN, the network utilizes the IMSI during subsequent call handling to insure, for example, proper call delivery and handoff.
Abstract: A method and system for controlling the quality of handovers are disclosed in which a poor radio environment in a target cell is revealed prior to completion of the handover procedure. During the handover signalling phase, the output power of the mobile station of interest and the target cell's base transceiver station are reduced. Consequently, prior to completion of the handover, if the target cell has a poor radio environment (below a predetermined C/I or C/N), the handover attempt will fail, and the mobile station will revert and remain connected to the original cell.

Abstract: Each transmitter/receiver pair of a radio base station is connected via an antenna bus and radio frequency feeder to antenna near parts equipment such as active antennas, boosters and tower mounted amplifiers. Automatic configuration and calibration of the antenna near parts equipment is accomplished by establishing communication between the base station and each of its connected antenna near part components. Each antenna near part component sends its identification to the base station over the antenna bus at power-on. Furthermore, communications selectively sent over the radio frequency feeder are monitored to determine the connectivity between individual transmitter/receiver pairs of the base station and each antenna near parts equipment. These radio frequency feeder communications are further processed to determine calibration data for configuring each antenna near parts equipment for optimal operation.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method, an apparatus and an arrangement for calculating the value of an amount in a first currency in terms of a desired second currency. The method comprises the steps of entering the value of an amount in the first currency into a controller of a receiver. A scaling factor describing a conversion between at least two different public land mobile network (PLMN) units is retrieved from a memory within the receiver. The amount of the first currency is then converted to the equivalent amount of the second currency by the controller which is adapted to use the scaling factor for the conversion. Finally, a user interface of the receiver is used to inform the user of the conversion result. The apparatus performing the inventive method is included in a mobile station and the arrangement is included in a PLMN.
Abstract: The lost pet notification system includes three elements: a pet collar that automatically activates an alarm once the pet becomes lost, a portable hand held unit that continually monitors the location of the pet, and a base station that automatically transmits a signal to the owner once the portable unit determines that the pet is lost. The pet collar continually receives a polling signal from the portable unit while the pet is within transmission range of the portable unit. In response to each polling signal, the pet collar transmits a reply signal to the portable unit. Once the polling signal can no longer be detected by the pet collar, the pet collar automatically activates an alarm. In addition, the portable unit activates an alarm and also transmits a notification signal to the base station. Once the notification signal is received, a the base station automatically places a telephone call to the predetermined telephone number and plays the associated message to alert the pet owner that the pet is lost.

Abstract: A wrist brace provides a mounting point, a means to hold the hand in position relative to the apparatus, and spreads the force evenly over a large area. Positioned over the dorsal surface of the brace is a "U" shaped transverse member that is attached to the wrist brace through two swivel joints on the ulnar and radial sides of the brace. The pivot means are positioned such that a straight line drawn between them generally passes through the axes of rotation of the metacarpal phalangeal (MP) joints. Positioned dorsally above the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint are two members, one of which has an arc shaped tail for its dorsal surface. The other is a slider block which engages and slides around this first arc member. The arc member is mounted to the middle phalanx of the subject finger in such a way that the projected center of the arc would be coincident with the axis of rotation of the PIP Joint.
