  • Patent number: 5410703
Abstract: In telecommunications switching system, software is frequently modified, enhanced or replaced altogether by new versions. The implementation or integration of the new or revised software into the operational system must be accomplished in accordance with strict requirements for not disturbing the ongoing activities of the system. Therefore, it is desirable that the system not be halted while the change to the new software is made. Rather, the preferred approach is to be able to replace software modules with new versions on the fly, during system operation. The smooth modification made possible in the disclosed system allows such changes with minimal disturbance to ongoing activities. The disclosed system provides the ability to change software during operation by treating the dynamic operations of a telecommunications system as a set of parallel, independent transactions, with each transaction consisting of a series of connected activities.

  • Patent number: 5410740
Abstract: In a radio communications system having at least one base station, the base station including a plurality of transceivers, a control method and apparatus includes the steps of comparing the number of transceivers in a call state to a first predefined number. If the number of call state transceivers is greater than the first predefined number, then all of the idle transceivers except at least one are switched off. If the number of call state transceivers is less than the first predefined number, then all excess idle transceivers are switched off. Also, after switching off the first subset of the plurality of transceivers, a second subset may be switched off after waiting a predetermined time period. The number of operational transceivers in the second subset is less than in the first subset.

  • Patent number: 5410675
Abstract: A method for restructuring input data having a prespecified input data structure with a data management engine, such as a translation engine, which is dynamically configured by the input data to conform the input data to an output data structure. When the data management engine takes the form of a translation engine, capability exists to translate data to and from various electronic data interchange (EDI) formats. Because the data management engine is dynamically configured by the input data, the translation process is independent of the specific details of EDI protocol and capable of coordinating multiple data sources/destinations without requiring any recoding of the engine. Initially, data protocol utilized in the data interchange system is ascertained. Then, the protocol data related to the data protocol and protocol processing instruction data is initialized.

  • Patent number: 5408903
Abstract: A screw gun drive is adapted to adjust itself automatically to the pitch of the threading of the screw being driven. For this purpose a spindle-type spring biassed coupling is provided between the screw driving blade and the drive shaft of the motor. As a result of such a coupling the screw driving blade first begins a rotational movement when the drive motor is switched on, and then it superimposes an automatic axial feed advance which adapts itself to the pitch of the screw being driven. An adjustment member provides for adjusting the spindle coupling to the length of the screws being driven.

  • Patent number: 5408218
Abstract: A model-based alarm coordination system coordinates primary and secondary alarm notifications in order to ascertain whether they are caused by a single fault, or multiple faults, in a complex electrical system. The alarm coordination function is part of a larger overall Fault Management Support (FMS) system. The FMS system is a framework that, when combined with object-specific fault management parts, offers uniform fault management functions to managed objects (MOs) within the electrical system. Each MO is viewed as a self-contained, functional unit, and is responsible for its own internal fault management. Therefore, there are no global or centralized fault management functions. Object relation models, based on functional dependencies between objects, are used to automatically solve the alarm coordination problem which arises when a large number of faults are reported in response to a single fault which causes out-of-specification performance in many dependent objects.

  • Patent number: 5408696
Abstract: In a radiotelephone base station receiver having components which cause degradation of a received radio signal, an apparatus for producing a correctly compensated radio signal strength information (RSSI) signal from the degraded received radio signal has an analog radio frequency unit and a digital control unit. The analog radio frequency unit receives the degraded received radio signal and generates a degraded RSSI signal, and includes an analog circuit and addressable memory. The addressable memory has compensated RSSI signal values stored at addresses, and the compensated RSSI signal values correspond to possible degraded RSSI signal values. The addresses are generated from the degraded RSSI signal, which may serve directly as the addresses. The digital control unit is coupled to the analog radio frequency unit, and receives the degraded RSSI signal and generates compensated RSSI signal values based on those in the addressable memory.

  • Patent number: 5406616
Abstract: A method of effecting automatic callback in a mobile telecommunication system. A calling subscriber is permanently connected to a public switched telephone network and a called subscriber is a mobile unit which moves in the public land mobile network. A centrally located home location register keeps an account of where all mobiles registered in the mobile telecommunication network are located, with the aid of local databases, so-called visitor location registers. The called subscriber calls the called subscriber and finds that the subscriber is busy. The calling subscriber then dials a code, wherewith a reference is stored in a queue in the home location register, this queue relating to the called subscriber. When the called subscriber is free to receive a call, the calling subscriber is informed to this effect. The calling subscriber then lifts his telephone receiver and a connection is set-up between the two subscribers. When the called subscriber answers, the call is considered to have been connected.
