  • Patent number: 5430724
Abstract: A cellular radio system, having a mobile services switching center (MSC) coupled to a base station by means of a pulse code modulation (PCM) link, has an apparatus comprising, in the MSC, a transcoder and rate adaptor (TRA) that generates a PCM frame from a plurality of user data blocks, each user data block corresponding to one of a plurality of users and each user data block comprising an integer number of bytes of data. In the PCM frame, each of the plurality of user data blocks occupies an integer number of consecutive bytes of the generated PCM frame, which is then output to the PCM link. The base station includes a channel encoder that generates an air interface frame from a plurality of user data blocks contained in a received PCM frame. The base station may also generate a timing control signal which is received by the MSC.

  • Patent number: 5428681
Abstract: Apparatus for reducing the risk of undesirable drifting of the parameters, so-called bursting, of an adaptive echo filter which is coupled between a receiving branch and a transmitting branch included in a four-wire loop. A difference signal (E) which contains no echo from the receiving branch is generated in the transmitting branch in a known manner. The apparatus includes an adaptive predictor filter which is coupled between the transmitting branch and the receiving branch and which functions to generate a compensation signal from the difference signal (E) when transmitting narrowband signals from a near-end. The compensating signal is subtracted from a signal which appears in the receiving branch and the predictor filter is updated in a manner to minimize the correlation between the difference signal (E) and the input signal (X') of the echo filter.

  • Patent number: 5426966
Abstract: The press brake comprises a pressure ram member which is driven by two operating cylinders engaging the pressure ram member in the region of its two lateral ends. The pressure ram member has an upper and a lower portion which abut against each other in a central contact area and which are separated from each other by two gaps each running from the central contact area to the lateral ends, whereby the gap width continuously increases. Under load, the lower portion of the pressure ram member and the stationary ram member are deflected in the same sense. The degree of free deflection of the lower portion of the pressure ram member is limited by an adjustably mounted wedge member located in the gaps between the upper and lower portions of the pressure ram member. With this measure, the parallelism of the deflection lines is always maintained, even under extreme load situations.

  • Patent number: 5425442
Abstract: A vertical conveyor is disclosed having a frame with a first and second vertical frame section spaced apart but supportingly connected to each other. Load supports having first and second ends are conveyed around a looped path. Each load support is movably mounted at the first and second ends to first and second frame sections. A pickup chain assembly has a pickup drive chain, an upper drive sprocket driven by the motor wherein a substantial amount of the load exerted by the supports against the pickup chain assembly is imported against the upper drive sprocket. An idler sprocket is aligned below the drive sprocket and has a smaller diameter than the drive sprocket. The pickup drive chains include a plurality of pickups pivotally mounted thereto which engage transverse axles mounted at the end of compression links of a compression chain assembly. The load supports are mounted on the compression chain assembly.

  • Patent number: 5424284
Abstract: This invention relates to drilling fluid additives that suppress clay swelling within a subterranean well and to methods for controlling clay swelling during the drilling of a subterranean well. In one embodiment trihydroxy alkyl amine is reacted with an alkyl halide or a water soluble quaternary amine to form a quaternized trihydroxy alkyl amine. The reaction products can also include condensed reaction products of quaternized trihydroxy alkyl amines. In another embodiment a choline derivative is used. The quaternized reaction products and choline derivatives are characterized by low toxicity and compatibility with anionic drilling fluid components. The products are added to water base drilling fluids which are circulated throughout a well. The drilling fluid additives and the method of controlling clay swelling provide for improved control of the rheological properties of drilling fluids along with increased environmental and drilling fluid compatibility.

  • Patent number: 5423628
Abstract: A winch assembly is connected to each end of a vibratory concrete screed to move the screed across a concrete slab to be finished. Each winch assembly includes a rotatable drum with a cable wound on the drum. The free end of each cable is connected to a fixed object mounted along the side of the concrete slab. To wind the cable on the drum and move the screed along the slab, the eccentric drive shaft of the screed is connected through a variable speed belt drive to the respective drum. Each belt drive includes an adjusting mechanism for varying the effective diameter of a belt drive pulley, thus providing a variation in speed. Each winch assembly also includes an eccentric gear speed reducing mechanism, which is connected between the belt drive and the drum to further reduce the output speed to the cable drum.

  • Patent number: 5424960
Abstract: Characteristic parameters of a torque of a stepping motor and its associated driving current or voltage are measured in advance to providetorque vs. characteristic information data representative of the torque vs. driving current/voltage characterisitcs. Then, the above characteristic parameters are measured again when a real load is applied to a stepping motor as installed with associated mechanical coupling components. An actual load torque is determined by referencing the subsequently measured characteristic parameters to the previously obtained torque vs. characteristic information data. A load inertia moment can be determined by subtracting the motor's rotor inertia moment from a determined inertia moment of the entire system. Efficiency of the motor can be determined by multiplying the output of the measured load torque by the nuber of revolutions per second thereof and dividing this by the power supplied to the motor or driving circuit.
