Abstract: Door chime assembly includes a chime base having a rear plate and at least one resonance chamber secured to said rear plate, a tone bar within the chamber and a striking means mounted on the plate for striking the tone bar. The chime base is molded in a single piece and employs at least one living hinge which permits folding of parts of the assembly to form the resonance chamber. The tone bar is mounted on dowels in the chamber of a length which prevents the tone bar from falling off the dowels during transit.

Abstract: A towel protector includes a waterproof inverted bag provided with a suspension grommet for suspending the bag from a golf cart or the like. Another grommet in the wall of the bag allows passage of a towel suspension cord. The exterior part of the cord is provided with a spring loaded toggle abutting against the grommet. The pressing of a release button of the toggle allows free passage of the cord through the toggle and into the bag. The opening at a lower end of the bag is large enough to allow free movement of towels suspended at the end of the cord out of and back into the bag, as the toggle and the cord are manipulated by the user. The device presents an advantage over known towel protectors in that it is extremely simple in structure and convenient in use as the user does not have to reach into the protective bag to pull the towels out or otherwise manipulate the protecting cover. The towel protector is primarily intended for use as a golf towel protecting device.

Abstract: The invention provides recombinant plasmids containing in DNA sequences coding for human preproparathyroid hormone. The invention further provides microorganisms, for example E. coli, transformed by these plasmids. The invention also provides a plasmid for insertion into yeast and a transformed yeast in which the plasmid contains DNA coding for parathyroid hormone. Parathyroid hormone is then secreted by the transformed yeast. Further the invention provides alternate polypeptides having parathyroid hormone activity, including PTH analogs, fragments and extensions, and provides alternate leader sequences and secretion signal sequences which can be used in the present invention. Finally, there are provided methods for purification of the secreted PTH hormone and/or derivatives.

Abstract: A fabric anchor device for attachment to awnings or the like for holding awning retaining ropes. The device comprises a woven fabric strip having a central reinforcing spine defined by paired high tensile strength reinforcement warp yarns. The spine includes a series of mutually spaced apart attachment apertures, the respective reinforcement yarns lying on opposite sides of the apertures.

Abstract: Precipitated silica gels having high surface areas and low oil absorption values are produced by a low temperature synthesis precipitation process. The precipitated silicas have unique flatting characteristics and are additionally useful as conditioning agents for food and salt and in dentifrice formulations.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a cellular mobile radio telephone system in which mobile stations may select either analog or digital control channels. Analog and dual-mode mobile stations are equipped to become multi-mode mobile stations which monitor both analog and digital control channels depending on the selected mode. Downlink multi-mode mobile stations, while required to use analog control channels for call access, may nonetheless scan digital control and paging channels to receive downlink control and paging communications from the land-based system. Bi-directional multi-mode mobile stations have the same capabilities as downlink mobiles but also are equipped to transmit control information to the land station over the uplink digital control channel. If no digital control channel is available, the multi-mode mobile stations scan primary and secondary sets of analog control channels.

Abstract: A catheter that provides precise temperature control is disclosed herein. The catheter may use a variety of passive heat pipe structures alone or in combination with feedback devices. The catheter is particularly useful for treating diseased tissue that cannot be removed by surgery.

Abstract: An apparatus for constructing subterranean structures, soil-chemicals mixture or soil-agents mixture by using a multi-shaft auger machine to mix soil with a chemical hardener in situ in a borehole. As the auger shafts of the multi-shaft auger machine penetrate the soil, a plurality of lateral support structures shear soil and provide additional lateral support. The plurality of lateral support structures are spaced vertically by a length no greater than thirty feet. Additionally, soil fragmentation members attached to the lateral support structures fragment soil reconsolidations to aid in mixing of soil. The soil fragmentation members have a length no greater than the difference between the radius of at least one auger blade and the radius of the shaft and no less than one-third the difference between the radius of at least one auger blade and the radius of the shaft.

Abstract: A multi purpose worktable can be used as a table base or as a replacement for a conventional sawhorse. The worktable is assembled and dissassembled without the use of tools into individual lightweight components which are easily stored and transported. When assembled, the worktable is sturdy and durable, and includes a pair of plastic endpieces, and several cross-members in the form of wooden boards. Opposed openings receive the ends of the wooden boards, and clamps to hold the boards in the openings.

Abstract: A telescoping shipping container for fragile articles and formed of corrugated sheet material includes an upper portion and a lower portion, each respectively having an upper end and a lower end with standard flap closure. The upper portion telescopes completely over the lower portion, to effectively double the thickness of the side walls of the package. The inner/lower portion includes a complete lining of resilient foam padding for further protection of articles contained therein; the inside of the upper lid is also similarly lined. By forming each portion of double plies or laminates of corrugated material, the sides of the closed package or container effectively include four corrugated layers, which along with the resilient foam lining, provides superior protection against penetration and damage to the package. The corrugated material may be cardboard, plastic, or other suitable sheet material capable of being similarly formed.

Abstract: A downhole submersible fluid pump having a progressive cavity motor section and a progressive cavity pump section. In each section the rotor is fixed and the pumping action occurs by forcing power fluid into the motor chamber around the rotor which action causes the normally fixed stator to rotate around relative to the fixed rotor. This rotary motion is transmitted via the housing to the pump stator formed internally thereof which rotates relative to another fixed rotor drawing fluids from the subterranean formation upwardly as produced fluids.

Abstract: An exercise device is shown formed from a weight having a C-shaped cross-section with an inner diameter large enough to fit over and at least partially about the bar of a dumbbell. In the preferred embodiment, a pair of weights are joined by a hinge to permit them to open about the bar and to then close upon it.

Abstract: A railway car cushioning device is provided for minimizing slack between railway cars. The cushioning device is provided with a piston and piston rod disposed within the cylinder. The cylinder is filled with an oil and gas mixture. A housing surrounds the cylinder providing a fluid recovery reservoir defined by the space between the outer wall of the cylinder and the housing. At one end of the cylinder is a bulkhead and at the other end is a cylinder head. The piston rod extends through a hole formed in the cylinder head and is joined to the sill of a railcar. A coupler is joined to the cushioning device for coupling to another railway car. A series of pressure relief valves are provided and engaged with egress ports formed in the cylinder wall between the bulk head and the piston when the piston is in an extended position. The pressure relief valves are constructed so that fluid may flow in only one direction, from the interior of the cylinder to the fluid reservoir.

Abstract: A versatile broom, brush or similar floor care implement comprises a head anchoring on a first side thereof a multiplicity of bristles presenting a substantially-flat bristle surface, and an integrally-formed connector-mating structure on an opposed second side of the head. The cleaning implement is maneuvered by an elongated handle disposed at a variety of preselected angles. Intermediate the head and handle is a handle interconnector to which the handle is detachably secured at one extremity and a connection assembly is ratchetably-pivotably secured at the other extremity. The connection assembly and the integrally-formed connector-mating structure on the head interact so that the handle can be selectively pivoted in a single plane as much as 180.degree. or more and locked at any of a number of preselected angles relative to the substantially-flat bristle-end surface.

Abstract: A tunable optical filter device has a wavelength selective optical filter that includes a grating structure arranged in a waveguide structure. The grating structure is formed so that it comprises two controllable grating sections electrically isolated from each other and which have different grating periods.

Abstract: A carrying package of pancake reels which are made by winding magnetic tapes on hubs and a method of recovering the carrying package after use are provided. The carrying package comprises a pallet, a body, a lower cap, an upper cap and bonding bands. The body has four walls which are interconnected and in which packing units, two lattices and an intermediate plate are disposed. The body has a height in which the packing units are laid on the other packing units via the intermediate plate forming two layers of the packing units. The lattices function as a partition wall for defining multiple compartments corresponding to the numbers of the packing units. The packing unit comprises two plastic discs, a plastic core, pancake reels, an intermediate film and sponge pads.

Abstract: A method and a system is disclosed for achieving communication between a customer of a service which can be supplied over a telecommunication network and a supplier of the service. A service order from the customer passes to a service order central where it is parked and allotted an order identity which is transferred through a signal connection together with the order. The service supplier can, himself, configure the method in which the service shall be delivered and the service supplier himself takes the initiative of creating a communication connection with the service order central and therewith refers to the order identity. When the communication connection has been established, the connection is coupled by the service order central with the parked call from the customer and delivery of the service can commence. A method which utilizes the service of subsidiary suppliers is also possible.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to a merchandise container formed from folded flexible sheet material to provide a box form having side/end walls (10, 11) and a top closure (13), in which the top closure comprises integral flaps (17, 19) on the side/end walls which fold with respect to each other and the walls. The end walls (13-17) being pre-formed to bow inwardly such that when the side wall flaps (17a, 17b) are folded in overlapping relation to form the top closure, the end wall flaps (19) form outwardly extending triangular wings which fold downwardly against an increasing resistance until a certain downwardly inclined angle below the horizontal is reached when the end walls bow inwardly allowing the side walls to converge to relieve the resistance and create a force tending to bias the wings downwardly into engagement with the end walls to hold the wings against the end walls and the side wall flaps of the top closure in the closed condition.

Abstract: A safety pin attachment which is capable of being releaseably locked about a conventional safety pin. The attachment has a male half and a female half which are adapted for mutual locking engagament. In one embodiment, the male half and the female half are injection molded adjacent each other and lying in the same plane, connected by a living hinge. The living hinge allows the two halves to be folded together until they are releaseably locked about the safety pin.

Abstract: Process and apparatus are provided for oxidation of oxidation of organic compounds in which a reaction zone is provided, containing an open space and a bed of solid granular catalyst, an organic feedstock and oxygen are passed in gas phase through the open space and then into contact with the catalyst bed, and reaction products are removed from the open space after relatively less contact with the catalyst, and from at least one other location after relatively greater contact with the catalyst. Greater yield of desired product may be obtained in such operation than in operation where all of the reaction products are removed after the greater contact with the catalyst.
