Abstract: An electrodynamic permanent magnet transducer for the non-destructive testing of workpieces by means of ultrasound. A soft magnetic housing is preferably provided in magnetically conducting contact with a pole surface of the permanent magnet to provide a compact magnetic return path for the magnetic field created by the permanent magnet. A hollow cylindrical body of nonmagnetic material is disposed to contactingly surround the permanent magnet to substantially eliminate magnetic short circuits parallel to the pole axis of the permanent magnet. The provision of two spiral transducer coils allows for the transmission and reception of ultrasound in a single permanent magnet transducer.
Abstract: Inking ribbon for thermographic printers that contains constituents that can be decomposed thermally or by radiation, particularly constituents that decompose upon release of a gas. Given correspondingly manufactured inking ribbons, the color-transferring regions (decomposition regions) can be more sharply defined, the required heating capacity for printing can be reduced and a better color adhesion on paper is achieved.

Abstract: A turbocompressor shaft seal, especially for a high-pressure turbocompressor, has each of its gas-side and atmosphere-side slide rings biased toward a rotor ring of the shaft and associated with blocking-liquid compartments which are interconnected by an annular passage aroung the rotor ring. The compartments are connected in a closed circulation path with a circulating pump and a cooler and leakage liquid is returned by a feed pump to the liquid circulation with the aid of a pressure transformer biased on one side by the gas pressure to be sealed and an adjustable spring force and, on the other side, by the pressure of the blocking liquid. The surface area ratio K between the area of the atmosphere-side slide ring biased by the blocking liquid pressure toward the rotor ring and the sealing area of the atmosphere-side slide ring is substantially 0.45 to 0.60, the thermal conductivity of the slide rings and rotor rings is greater than 250,000 N/mm.sup.

Abstract: A reforming process for the production of hydrogen or synthesis gas is improved by a preparatory process including the preheating of gaseous hydrocarbons within a heat exchange zone into which water is sprayed to obtain concurrently evaporation of water and preheating of the water vapor as well as mixing of the hydrocarbon gases being preheated with the steam as produced, and preheating of the entire blend will continue prior to charging the reformed process.
Abstract: An apparatus to regulate the speed of pulse width modulated electric motors 1 has a coder 3 on the shaft 2, the signals from which are used as feedback signals in the regulation circuit, and are transmitted to a regulator 4 with a microprocessor 5, from the output control lines 6, 7 to an amplifier 8, and the amplifier 8 feeds the electric motor 1.To reduce the quantity of hardware components of the regulator 4, and in particular to save time in the CPU even at relatively low setpoint speeds, and to achieve a more rapid and more precise regulation overall, the invention proposes that the regulator 4 comprises a microprocessor 5 connected to the coder 3, wherein the microprocessor 5 is connected by means of a data and address bus 9 to a peripheral control component 10, and that the microprocessor 5 can be loaded by means of the data and address bus 9 with programs 11 for regulating the "off" time of the pulse curve.
Abstract: The apparatus includes a spray chamber having a transport device for positioning a billet adjacent a nozzle for spraying a stream of molten metal onto the surface of the billet. The billet is engaged by a tandem arrangement of holding devices which are attached to driven ring gears. With the holding devices engaging the billet rotation of the ring gears rotates the billet about its longitudinal axis as the billet is sprayed with molten metal from the nozzle. As the billet is rotated it is also moved longitudinally by servo-cylinders attached to the ring gears. The servo-cylinders advance and retract in sequence as the ring gears rotate to generate combined longitudinal and rotational movement of the billet adjacent the nozzle. Thus a uniform layer of metal is deposited over length of the billet to form a round billet exclusively by spray-casting.
