Abstract: A method for determining boundaries of information elements for a PRN code modulated signal is provided. The method of the present invention uses an estimated symbol phase of the received signal and correlation values of different durations to determine the information element boundary. By the method of the present invention, the determination of the information element boundary can be more effective especially in the common dump receiver architecture, where the correlation window cannot match the received waveform exactly.

  • Publication number: 20070081436
Abstract: The present invention discloses read and write power control methods and system for an optical recording device that records information on an optical disk having read-only areas. The read and write power control methods respectively introduce the steps of determining a specific level of a former power control signal output based on a former power control, and then according to the specific level, setting a predetermined level of a power control signal to induce a present power control for rapidly outputting a proper power of the pick-up head. Accordingly, the level transition of the read/write power control signal can be shortened and even eliminated. An unstable read/write power output for the pick-up head can be avoided.

  • Publication number: 20070081433
Abstract: The present invention discloses a tilt adjustment system and method of an optical disk device with a pickup head, which includes a decoder for decoding the encoded information from an optical disk and checking whether error occurs during decoding. A decoding error calculator calculates a statistics corresponding to the decoding errors under the different tilts of the pickup head. A tilt control unit utilizes a specific algorithm to determine a decoding error rate, which is minimal than the other error rates within the statistics. Thus, an optimal tilt value can be decided upon the minimal error rate to adjust the tilt of the pickup head.

  • Patent number: 7145855
Abstract: A control circuit for an optical disk drive includes a frequency detector, a phase detector, a low pass filter, a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), and a controller. The frequency detector and the phase detector both receive an eight-to-fourteen modulation (EFM) signal and a data phase-locked loop (DPLL) signal. The controller can calculate a target frequency and control the VCO to output the DPLL signal according to the target frequency. During a non-seek mode, the VCO outputs the DPLL signal according to output of the frequency detector, phase detector, and low pass filter. During a seek mode or when spindle speed of the optical disk drive changes, the VCO outputs the DPLL signal according to the target frequency. The controller further outputs charge pump currents for the frequency detector and the phase detector and sets an RF equalizer signal and a differential phase detector (DPD) equalizer signal according to the target frequency.

  • Patent number: 7142135
Abstract: In a high-density optical storage system, data words are modulated into code words in a manner of minimizing the fluctuation of the digital sum value (DSV). A cumulative DSV is calculated for each possible value of a DSV control bit. The DSV control bit is determined to minimize the absolute cumulative DSV when detecting at least one subsequent DSV control bit or after a predetermined delay. • Patent number: 7134043
Abstract: A check system and method for checking EDC of a DVD sector without prior descrambling the sector. In the EDC check method, after the sector is received, a check value corresponding to a sector identification (ID) of the sector is generated. Meanwhile, an EDC value of the sector is calculated directly without prior descrambling the sector. Finally, the EDC value and the check value are compared. If the EDC value equals to the check value, a sector-correct signal is outputted; otherwise, a sector-error signal is outputted. Because the EDC check method and system of the invention skip the prior data descrambling step, the processing speed can be improved and the hardware resources may be more-efficiently used.

  • Patent number: 7073008
Abstract: A bridge system having at least one bridge chip to control the operations of the bridge. Each bridge chip uniquely connects to a bus interface allowing communications between a host system and the bridge chip when that bus interface is to be utilized. Each bridge chip also connects to another bus interface connecting the bridge with a device. Each bridge chip includes an activation circuit that automatically disables that bridge chip after a power-on or a hardware reset occurs. When the activation circuit receives a protocol initialization signal, the activation circuit causes only the associated bridge chip to become enabled. Once enabled, the bridge chip drives all of the pins in the bus interface connecting the bridge with the device and remains in control of that bus interface until a power-off, a hardware reset occurs, or the bridge chip has been physically disconnected from the host.
