  • Patent number: 5614044
Abstract: Laminated ceramic devices useful as an actuator or other device responsive to electrostrictive effects or photoelectric effects are manufactured by a method which includes the steps of forming an internal electrode on each of a plurality of unbaked ceramic sheets. Each of the internal electrodes is provided with a notched area for defining a so-called future space. A plurality of the unbaked ceramic sheets is assembled to form a laminate whereby the notched areas defining the future spaces are alternately located on two different sides of the laminate with the alternate notched areas being vertically aligned. The assembled plurality of ceramic sheets is then fired and the internal electrodes baked to thereby definitively form spaces defined by the notched areas which define the so-called future or void spaces. The resulting formed spaces are thereby alternatively located on different sides of the laminate.

  • Patent number: 5608577
Abstract: The present invention provides an optical mirror and an optical device in which the mirror is capable of reflecting a light beam having a plurality of wavelengths with the phase matching condition required for nonlinear optical materials being satisfied, so that a decrease in efficiency due to the phase difference does not generate even if harmonic generation, optical mixing or the like is performed, thereby improving conversion efficiency. The optical mirror includes a plurality of reflection films, e.g., multilayer films 2 and 3, formed on one surface of a transparent substrate, each of which films corresponds to each wavelength of a light beam having a plurality of wavelengths to reflect selectively one of said plurality of wavelengths, wherein a phase difference adjusting layer 4 is formed between the two reflection films 2 and 3, reflecting light beams having different wavelengths.

  • Patent number: 5601955
Abstract: An opening end face of a frame is closed by a transparent thin film, a vent is formed in the frame, and a filter having a filtration area larger than the sectional area of the vent is mounted to the frame to cover the vent. The filtration area of the filter is an effective area that allows the passage of gas in the filter. Then, the filter is mounted to the frame so that there is a certain space between the frame and the filter. In the conventional device, since the filter is directly mounted to the frame without space between the filter and the frame, the filtration area of the filter is substantially the same as the sectional area of the vent. In case of mounting the filter apart from the frame, however, the filtration area of the filter can be lager than the sectional area of the vent so that the quantity of gas flow is greater than that of the conventional one. Therefore, its adaptability to the changes in atmospheric pressure and in temperature is also improved.
