Abstract: Disclosed herein is a process comprising introducing a chlorine-containing gas through an adsorbent to adsorb chlorine and thereafter reducing the pressure of the adsorbent to a pressure lower than that during the introduction, thereby obtaining an effluent gas with a higher chlorine concentration than that of the introduced gas. Among preferably usable adsorbents are zeolite, non-zeolite-type porous acidic oxides and active carbon.
Abstract: A method for stabilizing an isocyanate compound by adding 10-5000 ppm of phenol to the isocyanate compound, and also an isocyanate composition so stabilized. In the isocyanate composition stabilized by the above method, coloring due to time-dependent changes and the occurrence of turbidity through self-polymerization are both suppressed so that it shows outstanding storage stability compared with a corresponding isocyanate composition containing a conventional stabilizer.

Abstract: The heat resistant adhesive of the invention comprises polyamic acid and/or polyimide which are prepared by using 1,3-bis(3-aminophenoxy)benzene as an aromatic diamine component and 3,3',4,4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride, 3,3',4,4'-benzophenonetetracarboxylic dianhydride and/or 3,3',4,4'-diphenylethertetracarboxylic dianhydride as tetracarboxylic acid dianhydrides, and further by blocking the polymer chain end with dicarboxylic anhydride or a monoamine compound; or comprises a polyimide solution containing the polyimide in a good solvent.The adhesive of the invention is a heat-resistant adhesive capable of adhering under mild temperature/mild pressure conditions. The adhesive of polyimide solution can provide desired adhesion by simple procedures such as applying to the adherend and heating under pressure and exhibits excellent adhesive strength.
Abstract: A method is provided for the separation of at least one aromatic amino acid from an aqueous solution of mixed amino acids including the aromatic amino acid. The aqueous solution is brought into contact with a strongly acidic gel-type cation exchange resin which has been converted into a salt with an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal, whereby the aromatic amino acid is selectively sorbed by the cation exchange resin. The aromatic amino acid thus sorbed can then be desorbed from the ion exchange resin, preferably with water.

Abstract: Disclosed is a polarizing film comprising a hydrophobic polymer containing a dichroic organic colorant in an oriented state which is characterized in that the dichroic organic colorant is substantially insoluble in water, organic solvents and liquid crystals and the dichroic ratio of the colorant is not less than 7 when it is measured with the film obtained by blending the colorant intimately with polyethylene terephthalate, melting the resulting blend and forming it into a film. This polarizing film has exceptionally excellent moisture resistance and thermal resistance.
Abstract: A method for separating .alpha.-L-aspartyl-L-phenylalanine methyl ester (.alpha.-APM) from a solution containing .alpha.-APM and impurities associated with the production thereof which comprises adding a mineral acid or an organic sulfonic acid to the solution in an organic carboxylic acid or in a solvent containing an organic carboxylic acid, and isolating the pure salt of .alpha.-APM which precipitates therefrom.
Abstract: A process for the continuous preparation of aniline by hydrogenating nitrobenzene is disclosed which comprises the steps of suspending, in an aniline solvent, a catalyst of palladium or palladium-platinum which is deposited on a lipophilic carbon having an oil absorbency of at least 100, adding a zinc compound and an alkali metal carbonate or a zinc compound and an alkali metal bicarbonate as promotors to the reaction system, and carrying out reaction at a temperature of from 150 to 250.degree. C. substantially in the absence of water while aniline and water formed in said reaction are continuously distilled off as vapor from the reaction product, and the concentration of nitrobenzene in the reaction solution is maintained at 0.01% by weight or less.

Abstract: A syndiotactic polypropylene resin composition comprising a polypropylene having a substantially syndiotactic structure and a nucleating agent. The syndiotactic polypropylene may be a homopolymer of the propylene, a copolymer of the propylene and a smaller amount of another olefin or a mixture of the above-mentioned (co)polymer and an isotactic polypropylene. The resin composition preferably has a higher crystallization temperature than a polypropylene containing no nucleating agent by 5.degree. C. or more, as measurement is made by a differential scanning thermal analysis.
