    Abstract: In a process for preparing a Diels-Alder addition product of a conjugated diolefin and acrylonitrile by reacting the conjugated diolefin with acrylonitrile, a vessel type reactor is used. The pressure of the gaseous phase in the reactor is increased by using an inert gas in the reaction. A premixed solution of the conjugated diolefin or a compound which produces the conjugated diolefin in the reactor and acrylonitrile is released through an upper portion of the reactor into the gaseous phase and then dropped into a liquid phase to react. A reaction product is taken out through a lower portion of the reactor. The process can be carried out continuously in a safe manner over an extended period of time without any adhesion of an insoluble polymer to the reactor or to the inlet or outlet pipes, and without sudden pressure fluctuations.

    Abstract: Provided is a naphthalene compound represented by the following Formula (1): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each represent a linear or branched alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, an alkoxyalkyl group having 2 to 20 carbon atoms or an alkenyl group having 2 to 20 carbon atoms which may be substituted with halogen atoms and have no asymmetric carbon atoms; A represents any of the groups represented by the following formulas: ##STR2## (wherein X.sub.1, X.sub.2, X.sub.3 and X.sub.4 each represent a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom); and z represents 0 or 1. The addition of this naphthalene compound to a liquid crystal composition makes it possible to improve various characteristics such as the high speed response property of the liquid crystal composition and the temperature dependency of the response time. The above naphthalene compound is useful as a liquid crystal material for liquid crystal compositions, particularly ferroelectric liquid crystal compositions.

    Abstract: An electrodeposited copper foil for use in the manufacture of a printed wiring board in which the original profile of the matte surface has been completely removed, preferably by buffing, leaving a surface having linear streaks and a roughness 1.5 .mu.m or less. The new surface is then given a nodule forming treatment which produces a surface roughness of 1.5 to 2.0 .mu.m, which may be followed by a corrosion resisting treatment. This invention further provides a method of manufacturing such an electrodeposited copper foil. Such copper foils are especially useful in making fine circuit patterns.

    Abstract: The thermoplastic elastomer composition of the invention comprises a crystalline polyolefin resin (A), an olefin rubber (B), a hydrogenated styrene block copolymer (C), a softener (D), and optionally, a peroxide non-crosslinked type hydrocarbon rubber (E) in a specific amount of each, and has a gel content of not less than 97%. This composition may be mixed with a crystalline polyolefin resin. The thermoplastic elastomer composition has excellent moldability and is able to provide a molded product having excellent elastomeric properties, high resistance to permanent compression set and good appearance. In particular, a composition obtained by mixing this thermoplastic elastomer composition and a crystalline polyolefin resin shows excellent moldability.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a method of manufacturing a zinc-titanium mother alloy and a manganese dry battery having an anode zinc can prepared from the zinc-titanium alloy. The method comprises: adding spongy titanium to molten zinc; and melting the spongy titanium to alloy with the zinc at 500.degree. to 750.degree. C. for 0.5 to 6 hours, thereby to obtain a zinc-titanium alloy which contains 0.001 to 5% by weight of titanium. The anode zinc can prepared from the zinc-titanium mother alloy is substantially free from metallic titanium and intermetallic compounds having the Zn--Ti atomic ratio of not less than 1/2.

The semiaromatic polyamide has a low content of the MO components, so that mold contamination hardly brought about in the molding process, and also molded articles of good heat resistance can be produced.

The fumigant preparation comprises a water-soluble and/or biodegradable film and a soil sterilizer and/or nematocide hermetically packed in the form of a stick with the film. The soil sterilizer and nematocide are each in a liquid form at room temperature.The soil fumigant preparation according to the present invention remains suppressed in toxicity, volatility and irritation before application to the soil, but its active ingredient(s) are promptly released after application. In addition, the present invention makes it possible to provide a fumigant in such a form as permitting a substantial improvement in the efficiency of work by a fumigating worker and also to provide an effective application method therefor, without the need for any machine designed exclusively for fumigation.
