  • Patent number: 8437579
Abstract: An image processing system having means of automatic adaptation of 3-D surface Model to image features, for Model-based image segmentation, comprising: dynamic adaptation means for adapting the Model resolution to image features including locally setting higher resolution when reliable image features are found and setting lower resolution in the opposite case. This system comprises estimation means for estimating a feature confidence parameter for each image feature. The model resolution is locally adapted according to said parameter. The feature confidence parameter depends on the feature distance and on the estimation of quality of this feature including estimation of noise. The large distances and the noisy, although close features are penalized. The resolution of the Model is decreased in absence of confidence and is gradually increased with the rise of feature confidence.

  • Patent number: 8435766
Abstract: A process for the recuperation of acylglycerols or acylglycerols containing free fatty acids from gums, present as aqueous emulsions, said gums being obtained by subjecting triglyceride oil to one or more degumming processes, said recuperation process comprising the steps of: subjecting said gums to enzymatic hydrolysis catalyzed by one or more enzymes with phospholipase activity; allowing said gums to separate into two or more phases, said two or more phases including at least an oily phase and an aqueous phase; and recuperating said oily phase comprising acylglycerols or acylglycerols containing free fatty acids; wherein said enzymatic hydrolysis is accelerated by adding at least part of the one or more enzymes with phospholipase activity to at least part of the water used in the recuperation and/or at least one degumming process; and/or at least part of said triglyceride oils treated in said degumming process; and/or by facilitating mixing at least part of said one or more enzymes with phospholipase activi

  • Patent number: 8434897
Abstract: LED-based lighting apparatus and assembly methods in which mechanical and/or thermal coupling between respective components is accomplished via a transfer of force from one component to another. In one example, a multiple-LED assembly is disposed in thermal communication with a heat sink that forms part of a housing. A primary optical element situated within a pressure-transfer member is disposed above and optically aligned with each LED. A shared secondary optical facility forming another part of the housing is disposed above and compressively coupled to the pressure-transfer members. A force exerted by the second optical facility is transferred via the pressure-transfer members so as to press the LED assembly toward the heat sink, thereby facilitating heat transfer. In one aspect, the LED assembly is secured in the housing without the need for adhesives. In another aspect, the secondary optical facility does not directly exert pressure onto any primary optical element, thereby reducing optical misalignment.

  • Patent number: 8436810
Abstract: A wearable electronic device such as a wrist watch (60) is supplied with conventional clock with two pointers (32,33). The device displays a parameter indicative of how “cool” the wearer has been over the past period as a function of time, using the time axis of one of the pointers (32,33). “Coolness” can be based on the measurement of related physiological parameters like heart-rate, body temperature, movement, skin resistance or muscle activity. “Coolness” of a person is understood as being the ability to cope with stress. Therefore, the stability of physiological parameters can be used to derive a signal for the subjective trait called “coolness”. All physiological parameters can be measured by sensors (10) in the watch (60) or in the strap (50). The invention is used as a gadget for self expression and emotional feedback.

  • Patent number: 8437474
Abstract: A system is comprised of a user and a group, wherein the group is comprised of a group leader and a group of M members where M is equal to or greater than one. The group leader generates a group public key and a group leader “master” private key. The group leader creates a personalized watermarked or decryption key, also referred to as an individual private key, for each group member. The individual private key uniquely identifies each group member. The group leader distributes the individual private keys to each of the group members. Each group member receives from a user a message encrypted using the group public key. Each of the group members uses its individual private key to decrypt the encrypted message sent by the user to the group.

  • Patent number: 8437836
Abstract: A diagnostic imaging device includes detector elements (16) for detecting y-rays indicative of nuclear decay events. Pairs of concurrently detected ?-rays define lines of response (LORs) which are collected, time stamped, and compiled in list-mode. In tissue perfusion studies, it is beneficial to use the data that concurrently maximizes contrast and signal-to-noise ratio in the reconstructed images. Using the list-mode data, events in an adjustable temporal window (33) are reconstructed and the reconstructed images are analyzed to determine a figure of merit based on contrast and signal-to-noise properties of the image. By iteratively adjusting the temporal window, extending its start point (36) backwards in time, and repeating the reconstructing, analyzing, and adjusting steps, an image with an optimal figure of merit is obtained.

  • Patent number: 8438086
Abstract: The present invention provides a seamless entry system that comprises a universal session manager. Users connect to the host service provider with a unique username and password. Then, through a series of data exchanges between the universal session manager, a validation database, and the remote service module, the customer may be transparently logged into remote service providers. Internet banking customers utilize a browser system to connect to a host server providing a range of banking services supported by a remote or distinct server. According to the method, the customer first enters a username and password to gain access to the host service provider. The universal session manager transmits data required for login to the remote service provider. The user is thus able to utilize the remote services with his/her web browser system without having entered a username or password particular to the remote service.
