  • Patent number: 8432854
Abstract: A system includes a first primary wireless system (120) that communicates over a first range, and a first beaconing device (130) associated with the first primary wireless system (120). The first beaconing device (130) communicates over at least at a second range, wherein the second range is greater than the first range. The first beaconing device listens for beacons (510) from other beaconing devices (130) associated with other primary wireless systems (120) on a plurality of channels over which the other primary systems may operate. After listening for beacons from the other beaconing devices (130) associated with other primary wireless systems, the first beaconing device transmits a first beacon (510) to a wireless device (114) of a secondary wireless system (110) that may communicate over the second range. The first beacon includes data indicating an occupation of a first one of the channels by the first primary wireless system (120).

  • Patent number: 8432868
Abstract: The present invention takes the advantage of the WLAN resources in hotspots for voice and data connections and enables seamless handover between WWAN and WLAN and vice versa. This allows two users in the hotspots to communicate with each other by making a voice over IP (VoIP) or video call, thus achieving cost savings for the end users and WWAN resources savings for the wireless operators. According to one embodiment of the invention, a mobile terminal has wireless wide area network (WWAN) and wireless local area network (WLAN) interfaces. The mobile terminal via a WWAN. If a WLAN is present, the mobile terminal sends a handover request together with its network address to the called mobile terminal, using a short message service (SMS) technique or a watermarking technique, for initiating a WLAN call with the called mobile terminal via a WLAN. After the WLAN call is established with the called mobile terminal, the mobile terminal releases the WWAN call.

  • Patent number: 8433983
Abstract: This invention relates to methods and devices for verifying the identity of a person based on a sequence of feature components extracted from a biometric sample. Thereafter, the feature components are quantized and assigned a data bit sequence in such a way that adjacent quantization intervals have a Hamming distance of 1. The data bit sequences are concatenated into a bit string, and said bit string is combined with a helper data set by using an exclusive disjunction (XOR) operation into a codeword. Finally, the codeword is decoded into a secret V and a secret S is matched with the secret V.

  • Patent number: 8431423
Abstract: An underfill formation technique for LEDs molds a reflective underfill material to encapsulate LED dies mounted on a submount wafer while forming a reflective layer of the underfill material over the submount wafer. The underfill material is then hardened, such as by curing. The cured underfill material over the top of the LED dies is removed using microbead blasting while leaving the reflective layer over the submount surface. The exposed growth substrate is then removed from all the LED dies, and a phosphor layer is molded over the exposed LED surface. A lens is then molded over the LEDs and over a portion of the reflective layer. The submount wafer is then singulated. The reflective layer increases the efficiency of the LED device by reducing light absorption by the submount without any additional processing steps.

  • Patent number: 8430534
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for making a global LED lamp (10) having a transparent globe (14) and a base (12) for connecting to a lamp socket. By wrapping the base (12) in expansive foam tape (38) of Compriband type or similar, prior to inserting it in a neck shaped portion (16) of the globe (14), automatic alignment of the base (12) in the globe neck (16) may be obtained. Further, soft metal strips (36) may be wrapped about the tape (38) prior to wrapping the tape (38) about the base (12). The tape (38) acts as an inflatable cushion, which presses the metal strips (36) towards the base (12) and the globe (14). Improved heat transfer between the globe (14) and the base (12) may thus be obtained.

  • Patent number: 8432980
Abstract: A multiple-input multiple-output multi-band OFDM transmission system (400) employs a data interleaving arrangement that is backwards compatible with specifications for a legacy interleaver. In one embodiment, an input data stream is parsed into two or more separate data streams by a round robin parser (310) and each of the separate data streams is shifted by a corresponding number of symbols and then interleaved by a legacy interleaver (340i). In another embodiment, data for a plurality (N*i) of symbols is split into N sequential groups of data, each group corresponding to one of N MIMO spatial streams, each stream including data for i symbols. Each group is then interleaved by a legacy interleaver (520i). In a third embodiment, an input data stream is interleaved by a scaled version of the legacy interleaver (610), and then parsed by a round-robin parser (620).

  • Patent number: 8433583
Abstract: An audio decoder comprises a receiver (801) for receiving input data comprising an N-channel signal corresponding to a down-mixed signal of an M-channel audio signal, M>N, having complex valued subband encoding matrices applied in frequency subbands and parametric multi-channel data. A subband filter bank (805) generates real-valued frequency subbands for the N-channel signal. A matrix processor (809) determines real-valued subband decoding matrices for compensating the application of the encoding matrices in response to the parametric multi-channel data. A compensation processor (807) generates down-mix data corresponding to the down-mixed signal by a matrix multiplication of the real-valued subband decoding matrices and data of the N-channel signal in the at least some real-valued frequency subbands. The down-mix data can be used to regenerate the down-mixed signal and the M-channel audio signal.

  • Patent number: 8434058
Abstract: The system and method presented provides a multi-phase, end-to-end integrated process for testing application software using a standard software testing tool. The system and method involve integrating the functional, automated regression and performance phases of software application testing by leveraging deliverables at each phase so that the deliverables may be efficiently reused in subsequent test phases. Deliverables such as functional and technical test conditions and manual test scripts are used as inputs for each phase of the integrated tests. The use of leveraged requirements-based deliverables between test phases significantly reduces much of the repetitive testing typically associated with functionality and performance testing and minimizes repetition of testing errors discovered in earlier test phases.
