  • Patent number: 6888318
Abstract: An electroluminescent (EL) display device comprises an array of display pixels, each display pixel comprising an EL display element and a driving circuit. A digital pixel drive signal determines whether the pixel is on or off, and a selected one of a plurality of supply voltages is switched to the EL display element. This device enables a digital drive scheme to be implemented, but the provision of a plurality of different supply voltages enables a grey scale to be implemented without requiring time or area ratio systems to be employed. Alternatively, the device of the invention can allow time or area ratio techniques to be improved.

  • Patent number: 6888615
Abstract: Electromagnetic energy is emitted from an illumination source of a lithography device. A portion of the emitted electromagnetic energy passes through an illumination optics module. The illumination optics module includes a one-dimensional optical transform element having a pupil plane. An aperture device having an adjustable aperture is located proximate to the pupil plane so that a portion of the electromagnetic energy received by the one-dimensional optical transform element passes through the aperture of the aperture device. The angular distribution of the electromagnetic energy passing through the illumination optics module is adjusted as a function of illumination field position using the aperture device, thereby improving line width control in the lithography device.

  • Patent number: 6889236
Abstract: The present invention is a method and apparatus for testing random numbers generated by a random number generator in real time. A stream of random bits is generated using said random number generator, then the generated random bits undergo a gap length calculation operation in which all sub-sequences having identical bit patterns are identified and the resulting gap lengths are applied to exponential averaging to obtain average gap lengths between identical bit patterns. The average gap lengths are compared to at least one predetermined acceptance range, so that if at least one of the average gap lengths falls repeatedly outside the predetermined acceptance range more than a predetermined number of times, it is determined that the generated random bits are insufficiently random.

  • Patent number: 6888895
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for encoding video data consisting of one or several bitstreams according to the MPEG-4 standard. In order to avoid any problem when mapping the video elements into the system elements, a specific alignment/fragmentation mechanism is chosen. According to this mechanism, when said video bitstreams are encoded using the syntax mode corresponding to the fragmentation of the Video Object Planes (VOPs) contained in said video data into Video Packets (VPs)and of Video Packets into Data Partitions (DPs), a Video Data Partition is mapped into one or more SL packets (SL1, SL2, SL3, SL4, . . .), the first Video Data Partition (DP1) start is always mapped to an SL packet start, and the last SL packet transporting the first Data Partition includes the separation marker and up to 7 subsequent bits of the second Data Partition (DP2) in order to obtain byte alignment, the next SL packet starting on the next bit of the second Data Partition.

  • Patent number: 6888564
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for evaluating the quality of video data without gaining access to the source data. The system is configured to estimate sharpness metrics by detecting edge pixels and enclosing them with 8×8 pixel blocks. For each block, the sharpness according to the Kurtosis of the DCT is computed. The final metric is the average sharpness of the blocks in the edge profile and includes a robust combination of spatial and frequency domain information.

  • Publication number: 20050088962
Abstract: A digital blocking filter and filtering method are provided for a device receiving signals from a transmission line. The transmission line, which may comprise part of a complex bus system, is incompletely terminated, thereby resulting in a reflection signal within the line with transmission of a signal. The digital blocking filter includes a pulse generator for generating a masking pulse timed and of sufficient duration to substantially block at the device the reflection signal, and logic for combining the masking pulse and a received signal from the transmission line, thereby substantially blocking the reflection signal. Circuitry for handling reflection signals of various duration, as well as for substantially blocking a reflection signal on either a falling edge or a rising edge of a state change in the received signal are provided.

  • Publication number: 20050091566
Abstract: A method for blindly detecting a transport format of a convolutional encoded signal is provided. The transport format is unknown and belongs to a set of MF predetermined reference transport formats. The method includes decoding the convolutional encoded signal using a Maximum-a-Posteriori algorithm. The decoding includes considering the MF possible reference transport formats and delivering MF corresponding groups of soft output information, calculating from each group of soft output information a calculated cyclic redundancy check (CRC) word, and comparing the calculated CRC word with the transmitted CRC word. Groups are selected which the calculated CRC word is equal to the transmitted CRC word, and an actual transport format of the convolutional encoded signal is selected from at least one soft output information among last ones of each selected group.

  • Patent number: 6883607
Abstract: A process for the recovery of hydrocarbons from a hydrocarbon bearing formation having an extraction chamber where the extraction chamber has an extraction surface. The process has the steps of heating a solvent, such as propane, and then placing the solvent into the extraction chamber at a temperature and a pressure sufficient for the solvent to be in a vapor state in the chamber and to condense on the extraction surface. The next step is to produce a liquid blend of solvent and heavy oil and then to separate the solvent from said heavy oil. Then the solvent is purified, before being re-injected into the formation again. The purification step removes less condensable fractions from the solvent to ensure a purity that is high enough to support continued heat transfer at extraction conditions. The pressure and temperature are set to levels to cause less condensable fractions to drain away with the liquid bitumen and solvent blend that is produced, thus mitigating heat transfer poisoning.
