Abstract: A method for localising a target 2 (fi. a tumour) in an object 4 (fi. human tissue) by means of scanning the object with a fan shaped X-ray beam 6. In known methods the X-ray beam is scanned twice over the object. In the first scan a shadow image of the object 4 and the target 2 in it is projected on an X-ray detector 10. In the second scan the position and the orientation of the X-ray beam 6 differs from the position and orientation of it in the first scan. Also during the second scan a shadow image of the object and the target is projected on the X-ray detector, in such a way that the positions of the target on the detector are mutually different. In this way the height of the target above the detector surface 10 may be calculated from the distance between the two shadow images of the target if both positions of the X-ray beam as well as both orientations are known.

  • Patent number: 6879770
Abstract: A method of decoding MPEG coded digital data, received in a forward reproduction order in least one Group Of Pictures (GOP) according to the MPEG standard, for producing decoded pictures for display in reverse playback order. Tho this purpose a limited number of decoded frames is temporarily stored while repeatedly same coded picture data is retrieved in a forward reproduction order to produce decoded picture data, employing the decoded temporarily stored picture data. This has as an advantage that the amount of temporarily storage capacity required, approximately equals the amount required for forward playback. In a specific embodiment, wherein the MPEG data cotains either NTSC GOPs or PAL GOPs, only temporarily storage capacity of four picture frames is required in case of reverse playback, compared with three in case of forward playback.

  • Patent number: 6879655
Abstract: The invention relates to a computed tomography apparatus in which measuring data of a patient is acquired along a helical trajectory by means of a conical radiation beam. The size of the detector window is then a factor of 3, 5, 7 . . . larger than the distance between neighboring turns of the helix. In order to select from among the acquired redundant data the data which is suitable for completely filling the Radon domain so as to achieve exact reconstruction, in accordance with the invention it is proposed to provide a cardiac motion signal detection device for the detection of a cardiac motion signal representing the cardiac motion and to arrange the reconstruction unit so as to select such measuring data from among the measuring data regionally redundantly filling the Radon domain that the Radon domain is completely and homogeneously filled with measuring data from cardiac motion phases with as little motion as possible.

  • Patent number: 6879326
Abstract: There is disclosed an apparatus and method for highlighting one or more selected portions of a display screen. The apparatus comprises a color shift controller capable of receiving a user input selecting one of a plurality of portions of a display screen and, in response to the user input selection, modifying the value of the pixels within the selected portion to increase the color temperature of the pixels. The method comprises selecting a portion of the display screen and increasing the color temperature of at least one color within the selected portion of the display screen. In one advantageous embodiment of the present invention, the color shift controller modifies white color pixel values in a selected portion of the display screen to new white color pixel values that have a higher color temperature. The higher color temperatures increase the apparent brightness of the displayed images.

  • Patent number: 6879838
Abstract: A system, apparatus, and method for providing a distributed location based service system to a mobile user. Information related to a particular geographic location may be electronically transferred to a mobile electronic device, without a request from the user, and interpreted locally on the device in the form of a virtual map of location based resources. The mobile device is capable of determining its location using a GPS (Global Positioning System) or a process of measurement and prediction based on calculation. The mobile device can then use the location information and compare it to available location based resources within the device.

  • Publication number: 20050075867
Abstract: The speech is sampled in such a way as to obtain successive voice frames each including a predetermined number of samples, and with each voice frame are determined parameters of a code-excited linear prediction model. The parameters include a long-term excitation digital word vi extracted from an adaptive coded directory LTD, and an associated long-term gain Ga, as well as a short-term excitation word cj extracted from a fixed coded directory STD and an associated short-term gain Gc. The product of the long-term excitation extracted word times the associated long-term gain is summed SM with the product of the short-term excitation extracted word times the associated short-term gain. The summed digital word is filtered in a low-pass filter FLCT having a cutoff frequency greater than a quarter of the sampling frequency and less than a half of the latter, and the adaptive coded directory is updated with the filtered word.
