  • Patent number: 6865589
Abstract: An improved method and arrangement for detecting a watermark in an information (e.g. image or video) signal are disclosed. The detection is more reliable and less vulnerable to image processing by partitioning the image into a sequence of blocks having a predetermined size, accumulating the blocks, computing a value indicative of the correlation of the accumulated blocks and the watermark having the predetermined size, and detecting whether the correlation value is larger than a predetermined threshold.

  • Patent number: 6865675
Abstract: A copyright protection system for protecting content wherein a time dependent ticket is calculated at a source device by combining a checkpoint with a ticket. The checkpoint is transmitted from a display device to the source device prior to the source device transmitting watermarked content to the display device. The checkpoint is also stored at the display device. Thereafter, the source device transmits, to the display device, watermarked content, the ticket, and the time dependent ticket. At the display device, the stored checkpoint is compared to a current count of a local clock that was utilized for producing the checkpoint. If the stored checkpoint is within a window of time of the local clock, then the stored checkpoint is combined with the ticket in the same way that the checkpoint is combined with the ticket at the source device.

  • Patent number: 6865232
Abstract: A multi-carrier transmission system has a plurality of transceivers, each having a receiver and a transmitter. Data is transmitted between the transceivers by modulating the data onto a multiplicity of carrier waves in the form of multi-bit symbols, wherein each carrier wave constitutes a channel, and wherein the number of bits per symbol (the bit loading), varies between channels and, within a channel, with time, so that each channel has associated therewith a bit loading parameter.

  • Patent number: 6864933
Abstract: A light valve for controlled transmission of light comprises first and second elements at least one of which is controllably movable into optical contact with the other element. Means are provided for projecting light on the first of the two elements on the side remote from the second of the two elements. Each facing side of the elements is provided with an interference filter layer, which interference filter layers, when being in optical contact with each other, have a transmission for light projected onto the light valve in a wavelength range determined by the interference filter layers. This transmission differs from the transmission that would occur in the case where the interference filter layers are not in optical contact with each other.

  • Patent number: 6865229
Abstract: A method and apparatus for applying blockiness reduction techniques to encoded video or other picture images by utilizing the run-length codes of neighboring pixel blocks to adaptively filter the decoded pixel data of interest, thereby smoothing out the gradations of intensity and color between neighboring blocks of pixels. The present invention can adaptively filter pixel data within a single picture block as well as between blocks. The method comprises the step of obtaining the run-length codes of a first encoded picture block and a neighboring picture block, deriving filter coefficients based on the run-length codes of the first encoded picture block and the neighboring encoded picture block and providing the filter coefficients, decoded first picture data and neighboring picture data to an adaptive filter, and filtering the decoded picture data of the first and neighboring picture blocks, thereby producing an outputted filtered picture signal.

  • Patent number: 6862817
Abstract: An improved reticle frame structure surrounds the perimeter of a reticle substrate and contacts it at the edge with precision guidance surfaces as the reticle is lowered onto the device. In an embodiment, the reticle contacts conical sections that correct its position and orientation along the plane of its mask surface, and spherical surfaces to position the reticle at its standardized datum reference areas. Near the intersection of the X and Y reference planes, a minimal area of the reticle face comes to rest on a spherical mounting surface as far away from the reticle mask as possible. This surface completes a tripod of vertical support in conjunction with the cones, which maintain contact with the reticle edges only. Secondary and tertiary spherical support surfaces can be provided for vertical support of the other two lateral corners of the reticle face to mitigate reticle tilt while it is being lowered onto the tripod contact points.

  • Publication number: 20050048193
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method of preparing porous metals, as well as to these porous metals per se. More in particular the invention is directed to the use of these porous metals in the preparation of medical items, such as implants. The invention further relates to a method of providing a porous metal coating on a substrate, in particular on the surface of a medical item, such as an implant or scaffold for tissue engineering. According to the method of the invention, a polymeric foam is impregnated with a slurry of metal particles, such as titanium, tantalum, titanium alloy or tantalum alloy particles. The impregnated foam is subsequently dried and subjected to pyrolysis and subsequent sintering. Due to the presence of metal hydrides, the formation of undesired compounds, such as metal oxides or nitrides, is avoided.

  • Patent number: 6860854
Abstract: A synthetic focus ultrasound system is described which is operated in a hybrid fashion. System operation alternates between synthetic focus acquisition and conventional focused beam acquisition. This makes possible, for example, the acquisition and display of harmonic images. Speckle artifacts in the synthetic focused ultrasound images may be reduced by combining signals from different sub-apertures which view the image field from different look directions. In a described embodiment, sets of motion maps are be produced for different sub-apertures of the array transducer, then compounded to reduce speckle. One or more identified regions of interest within a synthetic focused ultrasound image may be processed differently from other regions of the image to highlight or better define particular motional characteristics within the regions of interest, such as turbulent flow or different velocities of flow or motion.
