  • Patent number: 6339299
Abstract: A preheating circuit for a fluorescent lamp is provided. The preheating circuit includes a filament detecting circuit indirectly detecting a filament resistance in a fluorescent lamp by measuring a filament voltage and a filament current, a pulse generation circuit providing pulses of one of a first frequency and a second frequency determined by the detected filament resistance and a specific filament resistance, and a filament resonance circuit operating the fluorescent lamp at an operating frequency determined by the pulse generation circuit. Therefore, the filament resonance circuit operates at the first frequency to preheat the fluorescent lamp when the detected filament resistance is smaller than the specific resistance. The filament resonance circuit operates at the second frequency to operate the fluorescent lamp when the detected filament resistance is one of a first value being larger than and a second value being equal to that of the specific resistance.

  • Patent number: 6335942
Abstract: The invention is a frequency stabilized passive Q-switch laser, which has the advantages of small volume, simple structure, no need for high power voltage, etc. It has been a long time that timing jitter in conventional lasers is so large that they can not be applied to fields such as distance measurement. This invention utilizes an optical external modulation method to stabilize the repetition rate of the passive Q-switch, and thus to decrease its timing jitter. At the same time, the repetition rate of the Q-switch laser can be controlled by the same technology to meet various application needs.

  • Patent number: 6325984
Abstract: The Pd/Al2O3 catalyst displayed significant activity towards conversion of NO into N2 and O2 at T>1050° K. On modifying the catalyst with NaOH, the required operation temperature may be lowered to 900° K. The modified Pd/Al2O3 may be used in stationary factories and power stations, as well as catalytic converters for abatement of NOx emission. Calorimetric and temperature-programmed-desorption studies revealed that observed catalytic activity at 900° K. resulted from a formation of interfacial sites which strongly adsorb NO molecules.

  • Patent number: 6324312
Abstract: A method is used to fabricate a wide-angle Y-branch polarization splitters on lithium niobate crystal substrate. The Y-branch polarization splitter combines a straight waveguide with a substrate prism type wide-angle waveguide branch. The straight waveguide is a random polarization nickel diffusion waveguide. The branching waveguide is a proton exchanged waveguide. The fabrication technology needs only once of nickel diffusion and once of proton exchange. Due to the inherent property of single polarization for the proton exchanged waveguide, only the extraordinary polarization wave is bent and the ordinary wave remains in the straight waveguide. This results in a polarization splitter with high extinction ratio.
