Abstract: The present invention aims to prevent display luminance difference and burning with a line at which the polarity inversion switches when the order of inversion of black and video changes in the middle of the screen by a frame polarity inversion drive in a liquid crystal display device for performing black insertion drive. An enable signal (VOE) to each gate driver 5A to 5N is independently controlled, a start pulse (VSP) input to write a black signal is performed at an arbitrary timing within one frame period with respect to the gate driver 5A to insert a black image within one frame period, a write polarity of the video signal is inverted in frame cycle with the video display start pulse as a base point, and a write polarity of the black image signal is inverted in frame cycle with the black display start pulse as a base point.

Abstract: A transflective LCD includes a LC layer sandwiched between a pair of substrates, and a pair of polarizing films. The LCD device includes a reflection area and a transmission area in each pixel, the transmission area having a reflection film. A retardation film has a first portion in the refection area between the reflection film and the LC layer, and a second portion in the transmission area between the LC layer and the rear polarizing film. The retardation film has a slow axis perpendicular to an initial orientation direction of the LC molecules upon absence of an applied voltage and perpendicular or parallel to the optical axis of the front polarizing film. The orientation of the LC molecules upon display of a dark state has a direction different between the reflection area and the transmission area.

Abstract: The present invention aims to reduce flickers of the liquid crystal display device and enable the use of liquid crystal material exhibiting a high response speed, and to enhance light usage efficiency of the field sequential type liquid crystal display device. After writing the video signal to all the pixels in each sub-frame period, a correction voltage signal or an alternating signal having a frequency of greater than or equal to a certain frequency is input to the data line, so that the magnitude of the leakage current of each pixel TFT caused by the difference in polarity of the video signal with respect to the opposing electrode written to the pixel electrode is equalized, and the flickers are greatly reduced.

  • Patent number: 7423717
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device, which uses post-like spacers for eliminating local gap irregularity generation and permitting improvement of black view non-uniform irregularities and lower part gap irregularities, is disclosed. On an array side substrate 201 opposing first group post-like spacers, for each pixel, a step film 100 is formed by adequately combining by one or more floating inorganic film layers (for instance chromium layers 41 and 43, an aluminum layer 42 and am amorphous silicon layer 31). The first gap post-like spacers 304 are each in contact with the step film 100 at all times. The inorganic step film 100 is not formed on each of parts of the array side substrate 201 corresponding to second group port-like spacers 304, respectively, thus providing a gap. The thickness of the step film 100 is preferably set to 2,000 ? to 5,000 ?.

  • Patent number: 7411648
Abstract: An auxiliary plate (10) is fixed to a rear plane of a housing for fixedly holding a lamp unit (6) having a plurality of lamps. In the auxiliary plate (10), a convex portion and a concave portion are combined. The convex portion has a space between the housing and itself, which is formed by protruding a sheet metal, and the concave portion contacts with the housing by denting the sheet metal. In the auxiliary plate 10, an area for mounting a board vulnerable to heat is formed with the convex portion and an air layer performs as heat insulation. The convex and concave portions are arrayed in a direction where heated air easily flows in another area. Thus, rigidity can be remarkably increased compared to a flat-shaped sheet metal, and heat generated by a backlight is effectively dissipated, as well as a temperature rise and an occurrence of a temperature gradient are suppressed.
