Abstract: Device and method can be provided for emulating a system which includes a wireless channel, a wireless transmitter, and a wireless receiver. For example, with an emulation processor, it is possible to receive baseband data, process the received baseband data, and transmit the processed baseband data. Further, with a controller, it is possible to receive configuration information pertaining to the wireless channel, the wireless transmitter, and the wireless receiver to be emulated; and configure the emulation processor according to the received configuration information.

Abstract: Provided is an in vitro method for making a recombinant DNA molecule. The method includes combining in vitro a recombination-site-mediated evolution (a SCRaMbLE) ready DNA polynucleotide that contains at least one transcription unit (TU) and an introduced site-specific recombinase recognition sites that can be recognized by a recombinase, with a recombinase that recognizes the site-specific recombinase recognition sites. The method results in a polynucleotide that is recombined to provide a recombined polynucleotide. The method may further include determining the sequence, or determining the expression of the recombined polynucleotide. Polynucleotides made by this process, and modified yeast that contain the modified polynucleotides, are also provided.
Abstract: A multi-night titration (MNT) process to find an optimal single therapeutic pressure of a CPAP device. This single therapeutic pressure can then be used on an on-going basis by the patient after the titration period. The MNT process differs from current auto adjusting processes used for titration (or ongoing use) in that the MNT process does not respond locally by adjusting pressures to individual events. With existing devices, the continuous adjustment of supplied air pressure always responds to one or a small number of events and thus fails to compensate for a patient's adaptation thereto, resulting in the supply of a less than optimal therapeutic pressure to the patient. While auto adjusting processes often capture and respond well to short-term and transient conditions, the MNT process of the current disclosure seeks to capture long term trends and find the most suitable average single pressure for a patient.

Abstract: A processing technique for creating nanowires and hierarchically porous micro/nano structures of ceramic materials is provided. The process includes evaporation of micron-sized water droplets containing dissolved organic salts on heated substrates followed by thermal decomposition of the deposited material. The micron-sized droplets may be generated by supercritical CO2 assisted nebulization, in which high-pressure streams of aqueous solution and supercritical CO2 are mixed, followed by controlled depressurization through a fine capillary. Rapid evaporation takes place on the heated substrates and structures are generated due to CO2 effervescence from the droplets and evaporation of water, along with the pinning of the three phase contact line. Depending on the mass deposited, a mesh of nano-wires or membrane-like structures may result. Sintering of the membrane-like scaffolds above the decomposition temperature of the organic salt creates nanopores within the structures, creating a dual hierarchy of pores.

Abstract: A cochlear implant includes an electrode array having a plurality of electrode contacts arranged along at least a portion of a length of an electrode array, and a processing arrangement configured to map at least one electrode contact to first and/or second mappings. The first mapping provides a first electrical stimulation from the electrode contact to a first ground electrode positioned external to a patient's cochlea to stimulate hearing at a first location in the cochlea positioned adjacent to the electrode contact when the implant is inserted into the cochlea. The second mapping provides a second electrical stimulation from the electrode contact to the second ground electrode to stimulate hearing at a location in the cochlea positioned further towards the apex of the cochlea as compared to a distal end of the electrode array when the implant is inserted into the cochlea.
