Abstract: An electronic vapor provision system is provided including: a pressure drop or air flow sensor for monitoring inhalation by a user through the electronic vapor provision system; and a control unit for detecting the start and end of inhalation based on readings from the sensor. The control unit is configured to: monitor the cumulative period of inhalation (Ti) over a predetermined window (Tw); and transfer the electronic vapor provision system to a sleep mode if the cumulative period (Ti) exceeds a predetermined threshold (Th).

Abstract: An aerosol provision system, such as an electronic cigarette, comprises an aerosol source for generating an aerosol from a source liquid comprising a liquid formulation, for example containing nicotine, is described. The system comprises an air channel arranged between the aerosol source and a mouthpiece opening through which a user inhales the aerosol during use. The air channel is defined by a wall, and at least a portion of an inner surface of the wall is provided with a surface finish to increase the wettability of the surface to the liquid formulation. Increasing the wettability of the air channel can help reduce the likelihood of the aerosol condensing into droplets of the liquid formulation on the walls of the air channel and being drawn into a user's mouth therefrom.

Abstract: Some embodiments provide an electronic vapor provision system including a vaporizer for vaporizing liquid for inhalation by a user of the electronic vapor provision system; a power supply comprising a cell or battery for supplying power to the vaporizer; a sensor for detecting airflow through the electronic vapor provision system as a result of the inhalation by the user; a manual activation device; and a control unit for causing power to be supplied to the vaporizer to vaporize the liquid providing the control unit determines that both (i) the sensor is detecting airflow through the electronic vapor provision system and (ii) the manual activation device has been manually activated by the user.

Abstract: An electronic cigarette has a vaporizer to produce vapor to be delivered to its mouth end. The vaporizer includes a tube having inlet and outlet ends. A porous matrix containing a vaporizable liquid, extends around the tube. Wicking fibers extend through side openings in the tube and are configured to wick the vaporizable liquid from the porous matrix into the tube, and electrical heater coil is powered by a battery to vaporize liquid on the wicking fibers in the tube, so that vapor is supplied along the tube end when the user draws on mouth end. An airflow restrictor is provided to accelerate the flow of air along the tube to the heater coil.

Abstract: Apparatus comprising an electronic device (1, 2, 3) such as an electronic smoking device to be powered by a battery (14) in first and second different modes that consume different levels of electrical power; and a part (24) that produces a magnetic field such a permanent magnet, that is separable from the device in preparation for its operation. The electronic device is configured to detect changes in the magnetic field at the device and in response thereto, to change its mode. The magnet may be included in packaging (32) for the device so that whilst in the packaging, the device is switched to a low power storage mode and automatically switches to an operational mode when removed from the packaging ready for use.

Wicking fibers extend through side openings in the tube and are configured to wick the vaporizable liquid from the porous matrix into the tube, and electrical heater coil is powered by a battery to vaporize liquid on the wicking fibers in the tube, so that vapor is supplied along the tube end when the user draws on mouth end. The wicking diverge from the openings into fan shaped spread regions around outer surface of the tube so as to contact and receive the vaporizable liquid by capillary action from the matrix.
