  • Patent number: 8630340
Abstract: A motion compensated video coding method which can be applied especially in transfer of video streams using low transmission bit rate is presented. In the motion compensated coding method, the motion of picture elements between a piece of reference video information and a piece of current video information is estimated and then modeled using certain basis function and coefficients. The coefficients are quantized, and the quantizer is selected according to a certain selection criterion, for example, based on a target image quality or on a target transmission bit rate. Preferably the selection criterion is such that it automatically adjust the accuracy with which the motion of picture elements is represented to be related to the accuracy with which the prediction error information is represented. A decoding method, an encoder and a corresponding decoder are also described.

  • Patent number: 7711355
Abstract: In the current state of the art there are a number of operable devices 11, 12, 13 known that have an operating panel 14 through which a user of the device 11, 12, 13 can produce and/or change-existing operating states, Because of the fact that manual operation is often very complex and can also result in the distraction of the user in situations that require the full the attention of a user to be directed elsewhere, the invention increases the ease of operation and simultaneously reduces the amount of attention required to be paid to the devices 11, 12, 13. The invention uses a decision unit 15 that blocks or releases certain operating states of the operable device 11, 12, 13 based on the data received. The invention can be implemented, for example, so that a mobile telephone 11 installed in a vehicle 10 does not “transfer” any telephone calls or suppresses the making of telephone calls from within the vehicle 10 when the vehicle 10 is moving faster than a certain speed.

  • Patent number: 7349363
Abstract: The invention relates to a radio system which transmits packet traffic and to a method of transmitting service information flexibly between a network part and a terminal in a radio system which transmits packet traffic and in which a connection set-up process is activated by a session management arrangement when a connection is established between the terminal (402) and the network part (400). When service information is transmitted between the network part and the terminal, the party needing service activates the connection set-up process and during activation the party needing service indicates the need for service information and the quality of service with a message (602). The party providing service responds with one or more messages (606) which include service information. The connection set-up process is finished without establishing a connection. This way radio path resources can be saved.

  • Patent number: 7308642
Abstract: SyncML allows synchronization to take place between a terminal device and a server device. To be able to understand each other the data transferred between a SyncML client and a SyncML server must be coded as a SyncML document. The coding or decoding/parsing of the SyncML document is done by the separate application components, respectively, that other end-user applications (e.g. a UI application) can use. It is not always wanted, advantageous or even possible to employ the SyncML coding/decoding feature, since it is subjected to several disadvantages. The present disclosure provides a concept to still use the synchronization related components for communicating synchronization data between the participating devices but without employing the coding/decoding component feature. The response of coding and decoding the synchronization data is transferred to corresponding end-user applications.

  • Patent number: 7286592
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for a flexible multimode operation of spread spectrum receivers, e.g., global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers, using a shared circuitry hardware configuration of the receiver for processing of different types of code division multiple access (CDMA) signals. According to said method the receiver utilizes shared channel circuitry to receive signals of different CDMA types providing a flexible multimode operation. The present invention provides a way to select the received signal type for each channel by replacing the dedicated channels with multimode channels suitable to multiple types of receiver signals. The multimode receiver is more flexible to operate in varying reception conditions. By utilizing shared channel circuitry the hardware size is kept small.

  • Patent number: 7230932
Abstract: A method is described for providing a discontinuous radio link for user equipment in a telecommunication network in a physical radio transmission layer while receiving packets during a packet service mode (i.e. maintaining the logical connection in higher protocol layers). The user equipment enters into a discontinuous reception mode receiving either a) two or more slots of each radio frame, or b) one or more frames; and powers down its receiver circuitry for either a) the remaining slots of the radio frame or b) one or more predefined periods, signaled by the telecommunication network. • Patent number: 7142520
Abstract: A mobile internet protocol regional paging network 10 includes a paging foreign agent for handling a regional registration of a mobile node visiting a paging area, which includes internet protocol subnetworks. In operation, the mobile node periodically can provide an idle mode request to the paging foreign agent to enter an idle mode so as to deactivate one or more components for energy-saving purposes and reduce active communication with the mobile internet protocol regional paging network. The invention provides a small and link-layer independent extension to Mobile Internet Protocol with Regional Registrations to support power-constrained operation in the mobile nodes and to reduce routing state information in the visited domain. The extension allows a Mobile Node to enter a power saving Idle Mode during which its location is known with the coarse accuracy defined by a Paging Area. The mobile node and the visited domain may optionally agree on time slots used for Agent Advertisements and paging.

  • Patent number: 7133383
Abstract: The invention relates to an improved method and arrangement for controlling a cell change performed by a terminal of a cellular radio system. In particular the invention relates to a cell change in a situation where the terminal is connected to a special service provided by its current cell, e.g. to the GPRS service (General Packet Radio Service). An essential idea of the invention is that in conjunction with a cell change order a base station sends to the terminal information about whether the terminal is allowed not to carry out the cell change order if the terminal does not know the timing information of the new cell assigned to it. This information is advantageously sent in a signalling message of a certain service, such as the GPRS service. It is an advantage of the invention that a terminal connected to a certain service will not make unnecessary cell change attempts which are doomed to fail.
