  • Patent number: 7020108
Abstract: A method (600) for preparing an interfrequency handover of a certain communication connection from a first frequency to a second frequency features periodically intermitting (603) the transmission/receipt of data on the first frequency for certain transmission gaps. The number of transmission gaps is at least one during each transmission period and a certain sequence of transmission periods (420, 520) is used. Measurements are performed (607) on the second frequency during the transmission gaps on the first frequency. In the step of intermitting the transmission/receipt of data the transmission/receipt of data is intermitted within at least on transmission period for a certain transmission gap (311, 411) having a first duration and for a certain second transmission gap (312, 412) having a second duration. The second duration is different from the first duration. A mobile station (700), a network element (710) and a network control element (720) are also presented.

  • Patent number: 7006529
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for arranging communication between terminals and an access point in a communication system applying data transmission frames. The data frames (FR) comprise timeslots for uplink and downlink communications between the terminals and the access points. The terminals can be allocated one or more timeslots in frames. The spatial signature of at least two terminals is determined, and in at least part of the frames, at least partly simultaneous timeslots are allocated to at least two terminals. Measurements are taken of a signal transmitted by the terminal and used to estimate the timing and frequency offsets and the properties of the communication channel. The simultaneous time slot allocation for terminals is done based on measurement results.

  • Patent number: 7006516
Abstract: A method and the corresponding devices are disclosed for transmitting control information on a control channel associated with a traffic channel. The traffic channel is determined to be either a full- or half rate channel or a quarter rate channel. As a response to determining the traffic channel to be a full- or half rate channel, a control information block of fixed size is transformed into a first number of control information bursts which are all transmitted. As a response to determining the traffic channel to be a quarter rate channel, a control information block of said fixed size is transformed into a second number of control information bursts, where said second number is smaller than the first number. Said second number of control information bursts are transmitted. It is checked, whether a retransmission is requested concerning said second number of transmitted control information bursts.

  • Patent number: 7003025
Abstract: A system and method is proposed to significantly reduce the peak to average power ratio (PAPR) for an OFDM system by stabilizing the signal envelope. By using partial response (PR) signaling to spread each sub-symbol over multiple subcarriers, the signal is first compress in time. The signal is then rearranged such that it is possible to stabilize the envelope at some constant value ?, thus improving the PAPR without using excessive time-bandwidth resources.

  • Patent number: 6999503
Abstract: The system includes a transmitter for generating a signal and a cyclic prefix, wherein the transmitter suppresses a plurality of sub-symbols of the signal to produce a partial response signal. A portion of the partial response signal is dropped and the resulting truncated signal is used to modulate a carrier signal. The carrier signal is transmitted to the receiver through a noisy channel. The receiver receives a noisy signal and recovers the carrier signal and, hence, the partial response signal from the noisy signal.

  • Patent number: 6996195
Abstract: A method and apparatus for estimating channels in orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) communication systems. The method and apparatus allows a channel estimate to be determined independent of having knowledge on channel statistics. Channel estimation is performed by determining and then utilizing a least square (LS) estimate and an interpolation coefficient for each antenna transmitting to the receiver. The interpolation coefficient is determined independently from the statistics of the channel, i.e., without needing the channel multipath power profile (CMPP). The interpolator coefficient is multiplyed by an LS estimate for each transmitting antenna to determine the channel estimate for each channel.
