  • Patent number: 6987779
Abstract: A method and an arrangement are provided for indicating the specific use of a packet-switched communication connection between a mobile station and a fixed packet-switched data transmission network. The activation of a new packet-switched communication connection involves the step of transmitting an activation request message with a service type indicator field for which a set of service type indicator values have been defined. An additional step is performed for transmitting within the activation request message an indicator value indicating the specific use, in more detail than the service type indicator values, of the packet-switched communication connection the activation of which is requested with the activation request message.

  • Patent number: 6985137
Abstract: A method and system for preventing unintended touch pad input resulting from accidental touching of a touch pad device in an electronic device. A user can execute one or more touch pad functions by touching the touch pad device. The electronic device includes a key lock function to put the electronic device in a locked state such that only a limited number of selected input functions are available when the electronic device is in the locked state. When touch pad device is touched, a software program is used to determine whether the electronic device is the locked state and whether the touch function is one of the selected input functions in order to carry out or to block the touch pad function.

  • Patent number: 6983016
Abstract: A method for detecting errors in an image signal. The image signal is produced by dividing an image into image blocks, and coding is performed in which at least predictive coding is performed on an image block to produce inter-coded image information for the image block. The inter-coded image information comprises at least one prediction error block containing prediction error information. A decoding is performed to recover prediction error information contained in the at least one prediction error information contained in the at least one prediction error block. A prediction error block check is performed in which prediction error information contained in the at least one prediction error block is examined to detect errors in the inter-coded image information for the image block.

  • Patent number: 6980591
Abstract: A method and an arrangement are presented for processing received data blocks in a digital radio receiver. Received data blocks are equalized (306) and channel decoded, (309) after which they are checked (310) for errors. Additionally there is monitored (303) the amount of received but not yet equalized and channel decoded data. As a response to a finding indicating that an equalized and channel decoded data block contains errors (310), it is checked (313) whether the amount of received but not yet equalized and channel decoded data is below a certain threshold. As a response to a finding indicating that the amount of received but not yet equalized and channel decoded data is below said threshold, the data block which was found to contain errors is iteratively equalized and channel decoded. By adaptively allowing iterative equalization and channel decoding, retransmissions may be avoided.

  • Patent number: 6978143
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for managing packet data transfer in a cellular system such as the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System, UMTS. The decision about the channel used for the transfer of packet data is made based on a channel selection parameter and values of the parameters needed in the decision-making are sent to the mobile station. The parameters are advantageously sent on a common channel such as the BCH or FACH. Parameters sent advantageously include the maximum packet size on the RACH, current RACH load, a threshold value for amount of data in RLC buffers, etc. The parameters may concern all mobile stations, a subset of the mobile stations or one mobile station in the area in which the parameters are sent. The invention minimizes the transfer capacity load associated with signaling and the transfer of packet data can be performed with minimal delays caused by signaling.

  • Patent number: 6968190
Abstract: Instead of renegotiating parameters relating to an optimization algorithm previously negotiated between a mobile station and a target radio network subsystem during connection handover of the mobile station from a source radio network subsystem, prestored parameters are transferred instead between the source radio network subsystem and the target radio network subsystem either directly over an existing Iur interface or via a core network over an Iu interface.

  • Patent number: 6967943
Abstract: A method of operating a time division multiple access (TDMA) radio system having multi-slot capabilities and utilizing half-duplex transmission/reception where uplink and downlink user data transmissions between a mobile station (MS) 2 and a base station (BS) 3 are made in separate TDMA frames. A greater number of time slots are allocated to the mobile station 2 in each downlink TDMA frame than in each uplink TDMA frame to improve the efficiency of radio resource allocation and of the radio module 4 of the mobile station 2.

  • Patent number: 6968309
Abstract: A method and system for concealing errors in one or more bad frames in a speech sequence as part of an encoded bit stream received in a decoder. When the speech sequence is voiced, the LTP-parameters in the bad frames are replaced by the corresponding parameters in the last frame. When the speech sequence is unvoiced, the LTP-parameters in the bad frames are replaced by values calculated based on the LTP history along with an adaptively-limited random term.

  • Patent number: 6961780
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of managing a suspend state of a packet-switched service in a system which comprises a terminal (MS) and another peer (12), there being a packet-switched connection between the terminal and the other peer over which the terminal and the other peer transmit packets to each other. The terminal (MS) is able to use only either a circuit-switched service or a packet-switched service at the same time. When the terminal (MS) switches to the suspend state in the packet-switched service to use a circuit-switched service, a predetermined first packet (31) is transmitted from the terminal (MS) to the other peer (12) to prevent transmission of packets from the other peer (12) to said terminal (MS) during the suspend state. The invention also relates to a terminal and software.

  • Patent number: 6959864
Abstract: The invention relates to the design of card readers for cards equipped with memory. Such cards, and also the data stored in the memory of such cards, are generally utilized to produce and/or maintain operating states of technical devices. It is also known that the user personally can store data in certain areas of the memory. However, as the memory design and usage has been standardized for the most part and the memory capacity reserved for use by the user is relatively small, the memory capacity reserved for the user can only be increased by providing the device with additional cards equipped with memory. However, as all cards used in a device to supply the full functionality must operate together in a prescribed manner, it is the task of the invention to specify a card reader that organizes this operation. To accomplish this, it is specified that a monitoring device 17 or a closing device 24 is present that prevents the insertion of a second card 11.1 when there is a first card 11.
