  • Patent number: 8306194
Abstract: During the output of data and distribution services, user data streams frequently transferred to a corresponding communication device (i.e. information output system and/or the distribution system) are possibly irrelevant to the server. Despite this, resources for the processing of incoming useful data flows inside the communication device are provided in many cases on account of compatibility grounds. As a result, energy is reduced in the communication device. According to the invention, in order to reduce the efforts involved in processing useful data transferred in the direction of the communication device, at least one part of useful data is discarded prior to the implementation of working steps provided for the processing of useful data.

  • Patent number: 8305975
Abstract: A method for improving distributed resource allocation in OFDMA based wireless communication networks such as WiMAX IEEE 802.16 for either fixed or mobile subscriber stations SSs is executed by neighbor Base Stations BSs serving the SSs. Each BS controls the allocation of respective permutation zones and radio resources encompassing different radio subchannels within each permutation zone. In this task the BS avails of RRM primitives and instances of a NCMS functionality promoting direct BS-to-BS communication, which can be exploited in a distributed RRM profile. A BS playing the role of RRC sends to Neighbor BSs a unique RRM Request for receiving event-driven Spare Capacity Reports. Among driving events, “Change of Radio Resources Allocation” is included. Neighbor BSs, at every allocation change is detected, send to the requester BS a Spare Capacity Report including a Bitmap indicating subchannels used for transmission in each Permutation Zone.

  • Patent number: 8306432
Abstract: The invention relates to an optical regenerator for a differential phase modulated data signal which comprises, in addition to a unit for bit-by-bit gauge leveling, a unit for the regeneration of the phase of individual symbols of the differential phase modulated data signal. After the bit-by-bit gauge leveling, the data signal that is preset in amplitude is divided into a first and a second data signal. Phase errors of individual signals are detected for the first data signal in a phase error detection unit, are transformed into a correction signal, and are conveyed to a phase error correction unit. The second data signal is corrected in the phase error correction unit, depending on the correction signal conveyed thereto in the phase of said data signal, in such a way that a differential phase modulated data signal, regenerated in amplitude and in phase, is delivered at the output of the correction unit.

  • Patent number: 8301154
Abstract: In a radio communication system, a common channel is provided which is allocated to a plurality of subscribers at the same time for data transmission between a base station and a subscriber station. Measurements regarding the transmission quality are carried out on the common channel and their results are available in the base station. If the transmission quality does not meet a defined criterion, the base station transmits a first message to a controlling radio network controller associated therewith, the first message containing information about the transmission quality and about subscriber stations for which a bad transmission quality was measured. The controlling radio network controller sends a second message which informs serving radio network controllers, associated with the subscriber stations having bad transmission quality and responsible for the configuration of the subscriber stations, about the bad transmission quality.

  • Patent number: 8300606
Abstract: A set of permissible parameter pairs with the parameters being a number of code channels and an associated spreading factor is determined according to at least one first selection criterion. Then a parameter pair from the set of permissible parameter pairs for the CDMA transmission is selected according to at least one second selection criterion. In this selection process, the spreading factor is used as a second selection criterion with a higher value being preferred over a lower value if both spreading factors are below or equal to a threshold spreading factor value. This accounts for the fact that in a certain regime low spreading factor involve a prohibitively high processing load and lead to increase inter symbol interference.

  • Patent number: 8301025
Abstract: An optical noise signal is added to an optical data signal on the receiver side, and a signal quality of the data signal is determined. The magnitude of the added noise signal is varied, and a function of the signal quality of the data signal is determined in dependence on the added noise signal. Subsequently, a first straight line is approximated to the previously determined function for smaller values of the added noise signal, and a second straight line for larger values of the added noise signal. The optical signal-to-noise ratio is read from the intersecting point of the first straight line with the second straight line. Thus, the ASE present is derived from the controlled addition of additional ASEs, and the optical signal-to-noise ratio is determined. The process is particularly suited for DWDM systems because it works even with very narrow channel separations, or with narrowband optical filtration along the separation.

  • Patent number: 8295447
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for storing and passing on multimedia messages for a multimedia call in a packet-switching telecommunication network (TN), with the called subscriber (B subscriber) having network access with a known and predetermined bandwidth to the telecommunication network (TN). In the situation where it is found (1) during the setting up of a multimedia call that the available bandwidth is too narrow (2, 3) because the called subscriber (B subscriber) is currently using a further multimedia service, the multimedia call is diverted (4) to a recording device (ABZ) which is available in the telecommunication network (TN). A calling subscriber (A subscriber) can then leave a multimedia message on the recording device (ABZ), which is then passed (5) to a local recording device (ABL) for the called subscriber (B subscriber) via the network access and using the bandwidth that is still available.

  • Patent number: 8284935
Abstract: The invention relates to methods for encoding and decoding media data (MD, CMD). One of the methods comprises the following steps: A request is transmitted by a subscriber terminal (1) over a control network (2) to a control server (3) to establish a set of encoding parameters (K) for control data. The request includes identification data (ID) of the subscriber terminal (1). The control server (3) thereupon specifies the set of encoding parameters (K) for control data, comprising a random number (R), a control data key (CK) and an integrity key (IK), wherein the control data key (CK) and the integrity key (IK) are dependent on the random number (R) and the identification data (ID). A media key (MK) dependent on the control data key (CK) and on the integrity key (IK) is then generated by the control server (3) and transmitted over a core network (4) to a media server (5). The media key (MK) is used to encode and decode the media data (MD, CMD) subsequently transmitted over a media network (6).

  • Patent number: 8279750
Abstract: The invention is related to a method for resilient multi-path connections between edge devices of a communication network. First are determined connection-specific traffic distribution functions for the multi-paths depending on a plausible failure pattern of active and inactive paths of the multi-path of this connection. Further is selected the traffic distribution function for a multi-path depending on the current failure pattern of active and an inactive paths of the multi-path of this connection and is distributed the traffic of the connection onto the path of the corresponding multi-path pursuant to the selected traffic distribution function. An essential advantage of the invention is a significant decrease of network capacity for resilient multi-path connections. Another advantage of the invention is the short reaction time in case of an outage of one or more paths of the multi-path connections.

  • Patent number: 8270409
Abstract: A wireless user device, in radio communication with a first access point of one or more networks with which it could communicate via at least one of a plurality of access points, sends a network selection request to the first access point. If the network wishes to initiate a response from another access point in the same or another network, the first access point forwards the network selection request to one or more neighboring access points, in the same or another network. If any of the neighboring access points is able to communicate with the user device, that neighboring access point sends a response directly to the wireless user device and the wireless user device chooses the most suitable network from the responses sent.

  • Publication number: 20120233302
Abstract: A virtual network controller is described. The controller receives a request for the provision of a slice of a network to a virtual network operator. The controller determines whether the slice can be provided from existing resources, whether the slice can be provided if the existing resources are re-configured, or whether the slice can only be provided if additional resources are obtained. The controller then automatically takes the action required in order to provide the requested slice. The controller can also be used to release resources that are no longer required. Additionally, the controller can be used to re-optimize the network on request.

  • Patent number: 8244304
Abstract: A method synchronizes assemblies in a base station to a reference clock signal. A local clock signal and a frame are formed in a first assembly. The clock signal and the frame are transmitted, using a synchronous transmission with a predictable propagation time, to a second assembly. A reference clock signal is received in the second assembly, and a phase difference and a time difference between the transmitted clock signal on the one hand and the reference clock signal on the other hand are determined. The phase difference and the time difference are transmitted from the second assembly to the first assembly via a link without a predictable propagation time. The phase difference and the time difference are used in the first assembly to determine a manipulated variable which controls the formation of the local clock signal, such that the first and the second assemblies are synchronized in time.
