Abstract: The method and apparatus consist of a robot body having at least two, but preferably six appendages. The appendages are organized into appendage groups of one to six appendages. The appendages are linked mechanically into groups of two or more and each group is actuated using a single drive actuator. A selective engagement mechanism is used to selectively engaged and disengage one or more appendages at a time in a way that allows for at least one appendage and at most all but one appendage per group to be engaged to a group's drive actuator. When the appendage is disengaged it is preferably locked in place to resist a reasonable force applied to them externally, such as the force equivalent to the weight of the robot.
Abstract: An infrared camera system for low contrast employs a focal plane array (FPA) of a plurality of detector diodes. A read out integrated circuit (ROIC) including a plurality of integration switches is connected to the plurality of detector diodes. A frame mean calculator receives raw data from the FPA and an integration time servo receives a frame mean from the frame mean calculator and a preprogrammed target mean. The integration time servo compares the frame mean and target mean and provides an integration time output to the ROIC responsive to the comparison for control of the integration switches.

Abstract: A method of modifying the rheology of a thermoplastic resin that includes the steps of providing a thermoplastic resin and blending interpolymer resin particles with the thermoplastic resin. The interpolymer resin contains a styrenic polymer intercalated within a polyolefin, such that the thermoplastic resin is present as a continuous phase and the interpolymer resin is present as a dispersed phase. The method provides a rheology modified thermoplastic resin with improved physical characteristics.
Abstract: A rotating union (10) comprises a housing (12), a bushing (14), a fluid conduit (16), an annular seal (18) and a cap (20) secured to the housing and having a fluid inlet. The bushing is received within a cylindrical recess (32) in the housing, and the fluid conduit is rotatably received by the bushing and passes through the bushing and a bore (40) in the housing. The annular seal is received within the housing recess, and sealingly engages a cylindrical outer surface (80) of the fluid conduit and the cylindrical wall (46) of the housing recess. The cap has a circular recess (104) and surrounding annular projection (106) which receives the input end of the fluid conduit. The annular seal is sandwiched between the bushing and the annular projection. When the fluid conduit rotates, its outer surface rotates under friction against the annular seal to maintain the seal.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a container assembly (1) that includes a support structure (11) and a container (14) that resides reversibly within the support structure interior (62). The support structure (11) includes a pair of opposed first and second support sidewalls (26, 29) each having an elongated tube (32, 44) having a first open end (38, 50) and an elongated hollow interior (35, 47). The container (14) has opposing sidewalls (77, 80) that each have an elongated channel (104, 110). The first and second elongated tubes (32, 44) of the support structure (11) are each reversibly received within the first and second elongated sidewall channels (104, 110) of the container (14), as the container is reversibly introduced (e.g., slid) into the support structure interior (62) through the open forward portion (65) of the support structure (11). The container assembly (1) may be reversibly lifted by lift members (e.g.

Abstract: The present disclosure details a thermoacoustic driven compressor having a pressurized housing, which contains within a thermoacoustic engine and a working gas, coupled to a positive displacement reciprocating compressor. The thermoacoustic driven compressor generates scalable compressed air from a given heat source.
Abstract: A device for vaporizing a hole in tissue, including a vaporizing element, a heating element, configured to heat the vaporizing element, and a mechanism configured to advance the vaporizing element into a specific depth in the tissue and retract the vaporizing element from the tissue within a period of time long enough for the vaporizing element to vaporize the tissue and short enough to limit diffusion of heat beyond a predetermined collateral damage distance from the hole. Related apparatus and methods are also described.
Abstract: A new and distinct cultivar of Tiarella plant characterized by medium size, palmately-lobed leaves, with the terminal lobe the longest, an extremely good trailing habit, low inflorescence number for a cleaner look, distinct, dark brown markings following the veins, and excellent vigor.
Abstract: An armor plate transforms projectile energy into solid-state lattice waves and facilitates absorption of these waves at different wavelengths. For high frequency lattice waves, dopants are used for absorbing the lattice waves and converting them to thermal energy. Heavy dopants and layered materials can also be use for reflecting lattice waves to facilitate attenuation through absorption. A spreading layer can also be used for dispersing non-absorbed lattice waves.

Abstract: A method for super resolution enhancement of infrared imaging data employing an image array having simultaneous, high speed, randomly addressable windows of pixels for small regions of interest (ROI) within a large imaging sensor field of view. Data is retrieved from the ROI window pixels at an increased data rate and the array is dithered to produce sub-pixel motion consistent with the increased data rate. A selected super resolution (SR) algorithm is then applied to the data retrieved from the ROT window pixels at the increased data rate. The reduced data set substantially relieves the computational load on the processor compared with the requirement of performing SR processing on the entire frame of image data. The output from the SR algorithm is either used to replace the LR frame data in the image or is displayed as a separate image to the user.
Abstract: A dental tool displacement apparatus for use with a motorized power handle to displace a dental tool includes a tool holder having a receptacle for receiving the dental tool, and a drive arrangement. The drive arrangement defines a transmission from the motorized power handle to the tool holder such that the tool holder undergoes reciprocating motion parallel to the tool axis at a first frequency of oscillations per minute and rotates about the tool axis at a second frequency of rotations per minute. In some cases, the two types of motion are generated by an eccentric drive pin engaging an annular slot which has gear teeth along one side, thereby generating an angular rotation step of the tool holder during each reciprocating stroke. In some cases, the first frequency is at least one order of magnitude greater than the second frequency.
Abstract: A method includes detecting a neutron based on a time proximity of a first signal and a second signal. The first signal indicates detection of at least one of a neutron and a gamma ray. The second signal indicates detection of a gamma ray. The method further includes measuring an amount of detected gamma rays, for example, an amount different from an amount detected and associated with the second signal.

Abstract: A dual speed Read-Out Integrated Circuit employs a native pixel array with associated high resolution integration circuits for each pixel and a superpixel array created within the native pixel array by combination of native pixels for charge sharing integration in reduced resolution integration circuits simultaneously with the integration of the high resolution integration circuits. Switching control for readout of the high resolution integration circuits is accomplished at a first frame rate and switching control for readout of the reduced resolution integration circuits is accomplished at a second higher frame rate.
