Abstract: A foamed sheet containing a polymer composition including a polymer formed by polymerizing a mixture including 40% to 90% of styrenic monomers; 5% to 45% of maleate-type monomers; 0.1% to 25% by weight of elastomeric polymers with Mn greater than 6,000; and 0.1% to 10% by weight of low molecular weight polymers that include one or more monomers according to the formula CH2?CR3R2, where R3 is H or a C1-C3 alkyl group and R2 is a C1-C22 linear, branched or cyclic alkyl or alkenyl groups. The low molecular weight polymer has Mn of from 400 to 6,000 and can optionally include functional groups. The foamed sheet is made by injecting blowing agents into the polymer melt composition; mixing the blowing agent with the polymer composition; and extruding the mixture to provide a foamed sheet. • Publication number: 20080109330
Abstract: A business method for constructing a building that includes providing a catalog of building components from suppliers in an established network of suppliers. Construction specifications for a building are inputted into a computer containing the database and components are selected from the building component database that correspond with the construction specifications. A database of compatiblized components that correspond with the construction specifications is produced and used to provide technical drawings of the components and construction drawings for the building. The individual component specifications and drawings are communicated to the building component suppliers who produce or obtain individual components conforming to the individual component specifications. A sequence for assembling the individual components to construct the building is determined and the components are transported to a construction site according to the sequence, where the building is then constructed.

  • Patent number: 7358280
Abstract: Process for processing expandable polymer particles e.g. polystyrene (EPS) that eliminates the maturing step between the pre-expander and molding steps. The expandable particles are first over pressurized with gas, e.g. air, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and mixtures thereof, at a pressure between 500 and 8000 kPa and a temperature between ?20° C. and 130° C. for 15 to 7200 minutes to create a gas pressure in the particles. Using the gas pressure in the particles, pre-expanding the particles with a heating medium, e.g. steam at a temperature between 100° C. and 120° C. and at a pressure ranging above atmospheric pressure and below the gas pressure in said particles, i.e. 50 to 200 kPa for 5 to 120 seconds. The pre-expanded particles are air dried in the pre-expander while holding a positive pressure in the particles; are optionally transferred to a pressure silo; and then are transferred to a molding machine where the gas pressure in the particles is used to form a foam article.

  • Publication number: 20080081137
Abstract: A polymer blend composition having improved physical properties comprises (i) 70% to 95% by weight of a blend of a styrene maleic anhydride (SMA) copolymer, e.g., rubber modified styrene maleic anhydride copolymer and a styrene polymer e.g., polystyrene or high impact polystyrene (HIPS) and (ii) from 30% to 5% by weight of an acrylic copolymer, e.g., a rubber modified styrene methyl methacrylate (SMMA) copolymer which acts as a compatibilizer for the SMA copolymer, which may be a regrind, and the styrene polymer. This polymer blend composition has good impact strength and elongation properties. The weight percent ratio of the SMA copolymer to styrene polymer in component (i) may be 95:5 or 5:95 based on the total weight of component (i). The polymer blend composition may be extruded into sheet and thermoformed into an article, e.g., a container for packaged foods or may be co-extruded to produce a laminated article.

  • Publication number: 20080074665
Abstract: Alignment of layers during manufacture of a multi-layer sample is controlled by applying optical measurements to a measurement site in the sample. The measurement site includes two diffractive structures located one above the other in two different layers, respectively. The optical measurements include at least two measurements with different polarization states of incident light, each measurement including illuminating the measurement site so as to illuminate one of the diffractive structures through the other. The diffraction properties of the measurement site are indicative of a lateral shift between the diffractive structures. The diffraction properties detected are analyzed for the different polarization states of the incident light to determine an existing lateral shift between the layers.

  • Publication number: 20080068611
Abstract: A method and system are presented for determining a line profile in a patterned structure, aimed at controlling a process of manufacture of the structure. The patterned structure comprises a plurality of different layers, the pattern in the structure being formed by patterned regions and un-patterned regions. At least first and second measurements are carried out, each utilizing illumination of the structure with a broad wavelengths band of incident light directed on the structure at a certain angle of incidence, detection of spectral characteristics of light returned from the structure, and generation of measured data representative thereof. The measured data obtained with the first measurement is analyzed, and at least one parameter of the structure is thereby determined. Then, this determined parameter is utilized, while analyzing the measured data obtained with the second measurements enabling the determination of the profile of the structure.
