Abstract: A dual reactor solution polymerization process gives high density polyethylene compositions containing a first ethylene copolymer and a second ethylene copolymer and which have high dimensional stability, excellent processability as well as good organoleptic properties and reasonable stress cracking resistance. The polyethylene compositions are suitable for compression molding or injection molding applications and are useful, for example, in the manufacture of caps and closures for bottles, and for example, in bottles containing non-pressurized liquids.
Abstract: A phosphinimine catalyst immobilized on a passivated inorganic oxide support, had high activity at low co-catalyst concentrations and gave, under gas phase polymerization conditions, ethylene copolymer with a high molecular weight. A method of making a passivated silica support involves treatment of silica with an organoaluminum compound, a diorganomagnesium compound and a source of chloride (to make MgCl2) under anhydrous conditions and in the absence of polar solvents.

Abstract: The present invention provides low profile, thick (“stubby”) longitudinal fins having a cross section which is a parallelogram, trapezoid or a triangle extending from 10% to 100% of a coil pass and comprising from 3 to 45 weight % of a coil in a radiant section of a furnace for thermally cracking one or more of paraffins and naphtha. The fins provide an additional surface through which heat may be transferred to the coil making the coil more efficient reducing greenhouse emissions.

Abstract: A new P-N-P ligand is useful in ethylene oligomerizations. In combination with i) a source of chromium; and ii) an activator such as methylalumoxane; the ligand of this invention may be used to prepare an oligomer product that contains a mixture of high purity alpha olefins. In a preferred embodiment, the ligand of this invention enables a selective oligomerization in which the majority of the liquid product is a mixture of hexene and octene. The amount of by-product polymer that is produced in preferred oligomerization reactions is advantageously low.

Abstract: In one embodiment of the invention, the noise of a supersonic jet of gas venting from a lower stack having a flow control means may be reduced by at least about 20 dBA by attaching an upper stack to the lower stack, said upper stack being packed with granulae to provide a bed height at least one diameter of the upper stack the cross section area of the interstitial voids between the granulae being at least about 2.25 times larger than the cross section area of the flow controlling means installed in the lower stack. The said bed is contained in the upper stack and kept in place by suitable upper and lower retainers such as, for example, a mesh or a perforated plate.

Abstract: Some embodiments of the present invention provide components for a serpentine fluid reactor which is optimized for one or more objective functions of interest such as pressure drop, erosion rate, fouling, coke deposition and operating costs. The components are designed by computer modeling the components individually and collectively in which the cross section of flow path is substantially circular under industrial conditions to validate the model design and its operation. Then iteratively the component designs are deformed and the operation of the deformed part(s) is modeled and compared to values obtained with other deformed models until the value of the objective function is optimized (e.g. at an extreme) or the change in the objective function is approaching zero.

Abstract: A new additive for plastics (for example, polyethylene) is prepared by reacting a fatty acid ester of glycerol (such as glycerol monostearate) with a source of a reactive divalent metal selected from zinc, calcium, and magnesium. In an embodiment, Zinc oxide is the reactive divalent metal and the reaction is conducted in the presence of an acid such as zinc acetate. In one embodiment, a molar excess of zinc oxide (compared to the fatty acid ester) is used. The additive is suitable for use in the preparation of injection molded parts, rotomolded parts, and films.

Abstract: A computer tablet storage system. The system may have one or many main docks and one or many tablet holders. A computer tablet is retained within each tablet holder, and the tablet holder is insertable into and removable from an associated main dock. While inside the main dock, the computer tablet is protected against damage and unauthorized use. The main dock includes a door aperture and a tablet tray assembly movable toward and away from the bay door aperture and within the dock housing. The tablet holder (with tablet therein) is releasably engageable with the tray assembly. In the system, the tablet tray assembly is movable between a forward position in which a tablet is extended through the bay door for use, and a tray back position in which the tablet is retracted completely within the dock housing interior. A master control may regulate operation of the system.
