  • Patent number: 4219794
Abstract: A fusible element for use in fuse construction wherein the fusible element is made of an elongated, heat-conductive metal or alloy having regions of reduced cross sectional area, including a middle reduced region and two reduced intermediate regions, each of said reduced regions being disposed between two unreduced regions of the fusible element. The dimensions (width and length) of the reduced regions are selected to optimize the performance of the fusible elements.Another embodiment of the invention contemplates a fusible element with a plurality of reduced regions having specified relative dimensions for improved performance characteristics.

  • Patent number: 4218690
Abstract: A security system is disclosed which utilizes plural remote terminals for controlling access at plural locations throughout a secured area or building. Each of these remote terminals is capable of independent functioning, and includes a memory for storing plural independent identification numbers which define the personnel who will be granted access. These numbers stored in the terminal memories may be different from terminal to terminal, or may be uniform throughout the system, and may be the same as a list stored at a central processing location. Thus, access may be limited to the same group of individuals regardless of whether it is provided by a central memory list or a remote memory list. The remote memories provide total memory flexibility, so that the deletion of identification numbers from the list does not reduce the memory size.

  • Patent number: 4215501
Abstract: This invention relates to a contrast maintaining means for use in display devices. The invention uses a substrate of synthetic paper having a light reflectance to light transmittance ratio which is in the order of 1 to 1. A substantially opaque coating material having a light reflection index near zero is deposited in the desired pattern upon the substrate so as to provide an information carrying display. The coated areas of the display neither transmit nor reflect a significant amount of light. When light reaches the display from behind the light transmitted through the substrate is of substantially the same intensity as the light that would be reflected from the substrate if the same light had reached the display from the front. The light reaching a viewers' eyes from the uncoated areas of the substrate is constant for nearly all lighting angles while substantially no light reaches the viewers' eyes from the coated areas of the display.

  • Patent number: 4211332
Abstract: A color coding system for correlating the stages of a multiple stage, telescoping boom with the corresponding sections of a load chart and boom extension chart. The charts are arranged in separate sections which indicate, for various positions of the boom, the angle of the boom with respect to horizontal, its effective horizontal moment arm, and the maximum load that it can safely handle. The boom stages are each provided with a different exterior color, and the chart sections are colored such that each section is correlated with the boom stage to which it corresponds. Since the colors of the boom stages that are extended are readily visible, the color coding system facilitates reference to the proper sections of the charts and decreases the possibility of human error in reading of the charts.

  • Patent number: 4209555
Abstract: A coating of the inorganic zinc type which has, among other uses, excellent performance in the cathodic protection of metal from corrosion, especially when exposed to hot water. The coating is composed of mixture of zinc dust, extremely fine, high purity aluminum, sodium aluminum silicate and red iron oxide or titanium dioxide. Clay may be added for flow control and/or thixotrophy. The powder mixture is mixed with an alcoholic solution of partially hydrolyzed ethyl silicate liquid to form a slurry, and the slurry is thereafter sprayed or otherwise applied to a metal substrate to provide a coating having a thickness of 2 to 10 mils. Drying of the coating acts to evaporate the alcohol, and exposure to atmospheric humidity will fully hydrolyze the ethyl silicate to produce a dense, hard, tightly adherent coating which provides excellent corrosion resistance in a hot water environment.

  • Patent number: 4206708
Abstract: A transportation system includes pallet cars coupled with one another; the pallet cars being for the positive non-slipping transportation of baggage conveyor cars for escalators. On the lower side of the pallet cars, arc-shaped drivers are pivotably mounted about one of the carrying axles constituting a pivot point, by means of a bracket. The drivers are supported on a track via a roller secured at a pivot point on the driver such that during the transportation operation the driver projects through a slot in the pallet car and engages in back of a catch which is secured at the bottom of the baggage conveyor car. Shortly before reaching the horizontal part of the transportation system the driver disengages from the catch of the baggage conveyor car.

Front and back gable panels of the top end closure are each flanked by a pair of triangular inner roof panels that have different sizes than each other so as to facilitate folding of the sealed top end closure from a vertical position in a direction toward the smaller inner roof panels. The unequal size of the inner roof panels on opposite sides of each gable panel is provided by score line portions that are stepped with respect to one another. The lower of the adjacent score line portions, providing the smaller inner roof panel is formed wider than the other score lines so as to allow the top seal to be sealed in a vertical position and then to be readily folded toward the smaller inner roof panels.

  • Patent number: 4205785
Abstract: A water play toy comprising a base portion and an elevatable, elongated upper portion having a water deflector mounted at the top. A source of water under pressure is coupled to an upwardly directed nozzle located in the base portion. When the water pressure is turned on, a jet of water is directed upwardly from the nozzle through the upper portion to the deflector and the force of water lifts the upper portion into the air where it balances on the head of the water stream. When the deflector is an impeller, the upper portion rotates and an umbrella-shaped shower of water is broadcast outwardly from the deflector. As long as the water pressure is uninterrupted, the upper portion is balanced on the top of the water stream from the nozzle and continues to spray water in a circular pattern around the toy. The nozzle is slidably positionable to enable it to be positioned to direct the water stream directly vertical.

  • Patent number: 4203238
Abstract: A rapid-change device for attachments on earth moving machines for connection between a lift chassis, which is hydraulically actuated from the carrier vehicle, and an attachment implement, for instance a loading shovel, by means of holding claws and locking latches. The locking latches are pivotally mounted on the outer periphery of hubs which are fixed on stay arms. The lift arms of the lift chassis are coaxially pivotally mounted in bores of the hubs. The stay arms are provided with holding claws having semicircular recesses which are adapted to receive holding bolts of the loading shovel. The center points of the semicircular recesses of the holding claws and the pivot points of the locking latches are coordinated with respect to each other such that the line of action of the reaction forces which are introduced by the loading shovel extends through the pivot points for the locking latches and through the center points of the recesses or above the center points of the recesses.

  • Patent number: 4199903
Abstract: An abrading tool (20, 20a, 20b) is disclosed as having a tapered arbor (22) and an abrasive insert 24 including a helical element (28) with a plurality of coils (30) that receive the arbor in an axially incompressibly mounted relationship. An abrasive strip (32) of a helical shape on the coils performs a machining operation upon tool rotation. The abrasive strip on each coil is spaced from the abrasive strip on adjacent coils. Nuts (40, 44, 46) threaded on the arbor provide a means for adjustably positioning the abrasive insert axially along the arbor to control the diameter of each coil in order to initially size the insert and to subsequently compensate for wear of the abrasive strip.
