Abstract: A casing for an electrical component comprises a metal base member. A metal housing member is mounted on the base member to provide a hollow enclosed casing for receiving the electrical component. A metal lead frame is provided within the enclosed casing and is electrically connected to the electrical component. The lead frame has terminal leads projecting between the base member and the housing member external to the casing. The improvement comprises an adhesive for sealing and bonding the terminal leads to both the base member and to the housing member to form the enclosed casing.
Abstract: A method is disclosed for producing iron or iron alloy particles. A metal or metal alloy strip having fine particles or iron or alloy distributed throughout is provided. The metal strip is selectively dissolved without substantial dissolving of the iron or iron alloy particles in order to recover the particles.

Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for the production of multi-gauge strip is disclosed wherein the multi-gauge strip comprises a first strip of metal having a first thickness and extending longitudinally for a given length. A second strip of metal has a second thickness, is narrower in width than the first strip, and coextends longitudinally with the first strip of metal. The first and second strips of metal are intimately bonded in direct metal-to-metal contact without the use of a welding or brazing material. The multi-gauge strip has a first portion extending the given length with a third thickness substantially equal to the sum of the first and second thicknesses and a second portion of substantially constant width extending the given length having a fourth thickness substantially equal to the first thickness.

Abstract: In a rotary apparatus and a process for the production of layered glass batch pellets there is provided a drying process and a dryer for final drying of the pellets prior to their being fed to a melting furnace.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for electromagnetic casting of metal and alloy ingots of desired shape having portions of small radius of curvature. A modified shield is provided which provides for a reduction of the electromagnetic field intensity at the corners of the forming ingot by increasing local screening of the field at the corners. Increased local screening at the corners is achieved by locally increasing shield depth, by providing for deeper displacement of the shield, by changing the shield section, or by changing the shield orientation. Also disclosed is a modified inductor which is shaped so as to be located at a greater distance from the portions of small radius of curvature of the ingots than from portions of the ingots adjacent to the portions of small radius of curvature. The modified shield may be combined with the modified inductor and/or with a coolant manifold to simultaneously modify and control coolant application elevation such that the elevation is a minimum at the corners of the ingot.

Abstract: A method of using standard commercial shotshells in a non-standard chamber is disclosed. The non-standard chamber is at least 1/2 mm larger in diameter than the shell of a continuous axial length of at least 3 mm immediately forward of the rim breeching bevel. By conventional standards this would appear to be unsafe yet the method has been determined to be quite safe and allows commercial shotshells to be used in a chamber designed for combat shotshells which will not fit into standard commercial shotgun chambers of similar gauge size.
Abstract: A shotshell having a dual rim or "belted" head design. The belt rim is of greater diameter than the maximum inside diameter of the chamber bore of a standard commercial shotgun of the same gauge size, thus preventing the belted shotshell from being fully chambered in a standard commercial shotgun.
Abstract: A method of removing product of an unacceptable height from a product line is disclosed. In the method, a quantity of the product is arrayed in a carrier and moved to a gauging station where the array is placed between a reference plate and a corresponding array of gauging members and gauged by raising the reference plate to a predetermined height position and measuring the height of the gauging members when the gauging members are supported on the product array. The signals from the gauging station are stored and the carrier plate is moved to a rejection station where unacceptable product is selectively removed in response to the stored rejection signals from the gauging station. The carrier plate is then returned to the product line with only acceptable product still in place.
Abstract: In a downhill snow ski there are provided reinforcement rib members which are positioned generally perpendicularly to the top surface and the bottom running surface of the ski and are formed from a material of relatively high modulus with respect to the modulus of the core material to impart an increased rate of return and a controllably designed natural frequency to the ski.
Abstract: Copper or copper alloy sheet or foil displaying excellent solderability and high resistance to tarnish is prepared by the provision over its surface of a coating containing a copper salt of an organophosphonic acid. To form the coating, the sheet or foil is immersed for a short time in an aqueous solution containing a phosphonic acid, rinsed and dried, the treatment being combined with or preceded by oxidation of the sheet surface.
Abstract: A multi-strand process is provided for casting molten materials into ingots of desired shape. The process uses two inductors for receiving the molten material and applying the first and second electromagnetic force fields to form the molten material into the ingots. The inductors are located adjacent each other so that the first and second force fields interact with each other. A first device is associated with one of the inductors for applying a first alternating current at a first desired frequency to an associated inductor to generate the first magnetic force field. A second device is associated with the other of the inductors for applying a second alternating current at a second desired frequency to generate the second magnetic force field. The second frequency is set to a desired value in relation to the first frequency in order to control the first and second resulting containment currents circulating in the molten material.

Abstract: Described is a process for making a calcium/sodium ferrate adduct with sodium ferrate in a divided-type electrolysis cell. The anolyte chamber of the cell is charged with an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide and a sodium ferrate-stabilizing proportion of at least one sodium halide salt. The anolyte chamber additionally contains ferric ions [Fe(III)]. The catholyte chamber contains an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution during operation. The source of ferric ion in the anolyte may be either an iron-containing anode or at least one iron-containing compound present in the anolyte solution or both. The preferred material separating the anolyte chamber from the catholyte chamber is comprised of a gas- and hydraulic-impermeable, ionically-conductive, chemically-stable ionomeric film (e.g., a cation-exchange membrane with carboxylic, sulfonic or other inorganic exchange sites).
Abstract: A novel commercial chlor-alkali electrolytic cell which has a pack of less than about 50 interleaved parallel planar electrode frames and substantially horizontal conductor rods. The pack is at least half and preferably twice as tall as it is thick.
Abstract: A reaction mixture containing comminuted, flexible polyurethane foam scrap is used in making new flexible polyurethane foam. The process achieves a highly satisfactory utilization of foam scrap, while providing a quality foam product.
