Abstract: A process is provided for solvent recovery from a hot gaseous mixture comprised of ammonia, carbon dioxide, cyanuric acid particles, and solvent vapors. The process comprises scrubbing the hot gaseous mixture with a liquid solvent to remove the cyanuric acid particles and to form a scrubbed gaseous mixture. The scrubbed gaseous mixture is cooled to form condensed liquid solvent and a cooled gaseous mixture containing traces of the solvent. The temperature of the cooled gaseous mixture is kept above that at which ammonium carbamate is formed by the reaction of ammonia with carbon dioxide. Condensed liquid solvent is separated from the cooled gaseous mixture and the cooled gaseous mixture is contacted with additional liquid solvent to form a substantially solvent-free gaseous mixture.
Abstract: An improved process is described for the electrodeposition of both a low overvoltage metal and a sacrificial metal onto an electrically conductive substrate. The sacrificial metal is later removed by leaching the electroplated substrate with sodium hydroxide. The improvement comprises adding a sacrificial metal to the electroplating solution after electrodeposition is initiated. The amount of electric current supplied to the electroplating solution during electrodeposition may be increased or decreased to increase the surface area and the electrochemical activity of the electroplated substrate.
Abstract: A method of assembling progressing cavity pump of the Moineau type having a helically externally threaded rotor coacting with an internally helically threaded stator. In a Moineau pump where the pump casing is a singular tubular unit, the stator is normally bonded to the inside of a tubular housing with an adhesive. When such pumps are used to pump a corrosive fluid, such as caustic soda, the adhesive can be attached and the stator thus freed to rotate. To prevent the stator from rotating, studs are driven through the housing and into the stator. The location of these studs can be pre-marked by use of a suitable template. Also, the driven studs can be welded to the housing to prevent leakage or loosening.

The polychloroisocyanuric acid particles produced have improved filterability and the formation of foam during the reaction is greatly reduced. Depressants employed are alkali metal salts of alkyl esters or sulfonated alkyl esters of dicarboxylic acids or ethylene oxide terminated alkoxylated alcohols having a cloud point of up to about 50.degree. C.
Abstract: A catalytically stabilized polyol composition is disclosed for use in the production of polyurethane foam. The composition comprises a halogenated polyol and an acid-blocked amine catalyst.
Abstract: The venting of fouled combustion gases from the bore of a piston-type powder actuated fastening tool is provided by forming a gas vent which defines a gas flow path extending through the piston pawl return mechanism mounting to the atmosphere. A gas chamber is provided within the pawl mounting which chamber is vented to the atmosphere. A series of baffles is disposed within the pawl mounting in the gas path to provide for cooling of the hot combustion gases.
Abstract: Disclosed are novel halogenated tertiary phosphite esters which are the reaction product of 4,4,4-trichloro-1,2-epoxybutane or 2,4,4,4-tetrachlorobutanol with a phosphorus trihalide. These compounds are useful as flame retardant additives in plastic resin compositions.
Abstract: A system is provided for controlling the porosity of a web or film as perforated by high intensity, coherent radiation. In particular, there is included a laser for providing at least one beam of high intensity, coherent radiation that is directed onto a web that is moved past the beam. The porosity of the web is measured and compared with an operator-set reference of porosity to control the focus of the coherent radiation, whereby the size of the resultant perforation and therefore the porosity of the web is controlled. In one embodiment of this invention, the position of a lens to focus the coherent radiation is adjusted. In a further embodiment, a support surface for receiving the web is adjusted with respect to the fixed facus laser beam to control the size of the perforation or opening created by the beam of coherent radiation.
Abstract: Separator materials suitable for use in electrolytic cells, for example, for the electrolysis of alkali metal chloride brines, are sealed by a method which comprises coating the sections to be sealed with a synthetic thermoplastic sealing agent and ultrasonically sealing the coated portions. The method permits the sealing-in-place of separator materials and allows them to be unsealed and resealed without damage to the separators.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for automatically centering running lengths of strip material of different widths. The strip material is passed between an elongated air source and an elongated pressure pickup device. Depending on whether and in which way the strip moves laterally off center a conductive diaphragm located within a sensing device is deflected by a differential air pressure causing electric and hydraulic control circuits to adjust a steering roll thereby continuously and automatically centering the strip material.
Abstract: An improved cation-exchange membrane for use in electrolytic processes which is comprised of a film of a perfluorosulfonic acid resin having a fluoroalkyl resin coating. The improved membrane is produced by applying an uncured fluoroalkyl resin in liquid form to a surface of the film and curing the fluoroalkyl resin to provide a solid coating on the surface of the film. The improved membrane provides efficient ion separation properties at reduced costs for energy.

Abstract: A process is described for the purification and recovery of cyanuric acid from a hot slurry of cyanuric acid in an organic solvent. In the process, the hot slurry is quenched in a quench liquid which is at a temperature for cooling the hot slurry to form a cooled slurry of cyanuric acid particles in a mixture of the solvent and the quench liquid. Cyanuric acid particles are separated from the mixture of solvent and quench liquid and recovered. The process effectively cools and separates cyanuric acid from the solvent and any color bodies present to produce a pure white crystalline product.

Abstract: A high current cell-shorting switch is provided with removable bus bar tips having an enlarged beveled area of contact. A plurality of movable tapered bridge contacts are arranged along a main shaft such that upon rotation of the shaft a plurality of the bridge contacts are simultaneously driven into spanning contact with two of the bus bar tips. The main shaft is supported by pairs of split collars which can be easily separated thereby permitting removal of the main shaft and associated contacts. Upon separation, the switch contacts and bus bar tips may be easily removed for refurbishing or replacement.
