  • Patent number: 4095930
Abstract: A system for burning two fuels in a burner wherein the second fuel is available in varying amounts. In response to the sensing of the available supply of the second fuel and the sensing of the total fuel required to be supplied to the burner, the system proportions the total fuel supplied to the burner between the first and second fuels to use as much of the second fuel as the supply will permit to meet the total fuel requirement. In addition, the system cuts off the supply of the first fuel to the burner when the available supply of the second fuel is adequate to meet the total fuel requirement and turns on the supply of the first fuel when the available supply of the second fuel is not adequate to meet the total fuel requirement.

  • Patent number: 4094868
Abstract: Compounds containing an azo-linkage connecting two similar polyol esters constituents are described. These azo di-ester polyols are prepared by the direct esterification of azo diacids with polyols, in the presence of a strong mineral acid catalyst. The azo di-ester polyol products function as free radical initiators and grafting bases in the graft copolymerization of unsaturated monomers with polyols. These graft copolymers are useful in the formulation of polyurethanes.

  • Patent number: 4091170
Abstract: A heat-sealable coating composition for organic polymeric films such as regenerated cellulose film that provides good runnability properties of the coated films on automatic packaging machines, comprising a conventional heat-sealable vinylidene chloride copolymer coating composition containing from about 0.4 to 1.5% by weight of an alkali metal salt of lauryl sulfate and from about 0.2 to 1.0% by weight of an alkaline earth metal stearate, alkali metal stearate, or ammonium stearate. In addition, the composition may also contain from 0.4 to 1.0% lecithin. The coating composition provides good packaging machine runnability properties in a single coating on organic polymeric films without impairing heat-sealability, and its appearance in response to high relative humidity exposure can be varied in degrees of antifogging characteristics by adjustment of the sulfate and stearate additive concentrations.

  • Patent number: 4089935
Abstract: A process is described for recovering calcium hypochlorite values from the filter media employed in the filtration of calcium hypochlorite slurries. Deposits of Ca(OCl).sub.2 along with insoluble materials adhering to the filter media are washed with an aqueous solution of calcium hypochlorite to form a slurry of calcium hypochlorite solids. Water is used to wash the filter media to dissolve any remaining Ca(OCl).sub.2 and form a solution of calcium hypochlorite. The slurry and solution are then admixed to provide a solution of calcium hypochlorite whose concentration is controlled within the range of from about 45 to about 215 grams per liter of Ca(OCl).sub.2. This solution is employed in the production of calcium hypochlorite and is recycled to the washing step.

  • Patent number: 4088728
Abstract: Improved roll formation in regenerated cellulose film is obtained by a method for introducing randomized gauge variations in the film on the casting machine by varying the water content in the gel film in scattered areas across the film prior to drying. Those areas of the film containing more moisture before drying tend to be thicker than those areas containing less moisture resulting in gauge variations throughout the film. Since the gauge variations are randomly imparted to the film across its width, they do not pile up on top of one another to form gauge bands when the film is wound into rolls and the effect on roll formation of any gauge bands inherently present in the film from the casting operation are minimized due to the (superimposed) randomly imparted gauge variations. Preferably, the method comprises imparting the random gauge variations in the film by producing diagonal tracks of water on the film with a transversely moving squeegee band containing a plurality of slight indentations.

  • Patent number: 4088475
Abstract: A method for adding reactive elements to molten copper or copper base alloys is disclosed. This method prevents unwanted reactions and oxidation by adding the reactive elements to the molten metal in the form of a powder mixture placed within tubing which is compatible with said molten metal. This filled tubing is sealed and drawn down, if desired, to an appropriate size for rapid melting within said molten metal and consequent rapid dissolution of the reactive elements throughout the molten metal.

  • Patent number: 4087607
Abstract: Polychloroisocyanurate products are produced in a continuous process which reacts a cyanuric acid component with a chlorinating agent in a reaction mixture to which a purge gas is fed to remove in an effluent gas, any nitrogen trichloride produced along with other by-products. The effluent gas is fed to a gas analyzer such as a gas chromatograph which determines the concentration of NCl.sub.3 present and compares it with a predetermined upper limit. If this upper limit is equalled or exceeded, the gas analyzer activates means to flood the reaction mixture with purge gas to prevent explosive amounts of nitrogen trichloride from being present in the reaction mixture. The gas analyzer may also control the feed rate of the cyanuric acid component and the chlorinating agent. The pH of the reaction mixture is also continuously measured in a pH analyzer having means to control the flow rate of the purge gas and reactants should the predetermined pH limits for the reaction be attained or exceeded.

  • Patent number: 4087360
Abstract: Novel compositions comprising calcium hypochlorite and a proportion of a polyacrylic acid compound have been produced. the compositions provide accurately controlled concentrations of available chlorine to bodies of water such as swimming pools by reducing the solubility off the calcium hypochlorite. In addition, when employing dispensers for water soluble chemicals in treating very hard or highly alkaline water, inhibition of scale formation and prevention of scale build-up in the dispenser is achieved when the novel compositions are used.
