  • Patent number: 4713602
Abstract: A circuit resistance adjusting device for producing a combined resistance consisting of a plurality of resistances which are selectively connected by a switching member. The switching member includes a plurality of switching elements and fuses which are respectively connected with the resistances, wherein when a hold signal is applied to the switching member, the fuses are adapted be fused off. A patterning member sequentially generates a predetermined pattern signal to the switching member on a step-by-step basis when a signal is applied to the patterning member, so that the resistances are respectively connected sequentially. Thus, upon the application of the hold signal, the patterning member is held to generate a pattern signal and the connection of the resistances is fixed by the fused-off of the fuses.

  • Patent number: 4712854
Abstract: A method of making an optical waveguide. First ultraviolet light is radiated upon the surface of a transparent piece of photopolymerization material of a type whose refractive index is changed by the impact of ultraviolet light thereon, so that a refractive index profile in the depthwise direction of the piece of photopolymerization material is formed. Next ultraviolet light is radiated upon the surface of the transparent piece of photopolymerization material in a pattern of a lengthwise extending stripe whose intensity is least in its central portion and becomes greater towards its edge portions, so that a refractive index profile in the widthwise direction of the piece of photopolymerization material is formed. Finally an optical waveguide is structured from the thus irradiated piece of photopolymerization material. Optionally, these profiles may be parabolic profiles.

  • Patent number: 4713760
Abstract: A transaction processing system comprises an electronic cash register machine (ECR) and a balance settling machine. The ECR includes a keyboard from which the figures for individual items in one transaction are entered, and a memory in which the cumulative records of the figures are stored. An actual amount of money temporarily paid by a customer for the purchased items is also entered from the keyboard. A balance data representing an outstanding balance of money to be returned to the customer is calculated in the ECR. A recording medium on which the appropriate identification (ID) code is recorded is handed to the customer. The cash transaction data and the appropriate balance data together with the customer's ID code are sent to the balance settling machine. When the customer inserts his or her recording medium into the balance, settling machine, the ID code on the recording medium is read.

Abstract: An electronic switching device having a detection circuit or input circuit powered by an external source and load is described. The external source and load are in a series circuit with a power switching element which thereby provides switch controlled power in response to an output signal generated from a detection circuit. A current limiting device is connected in series with the power switching element, and an excess current detection circuit responds to excessive current flowing in the aforemention series circuit to interrupt the power switching element when an abnormally large current is passed. Circuitry is provided for holding the current limiting device in its operable or current interrupting state for a predetermined period of time.

  • Patent number: 4709137
Abstract: An IC card (6) comprises a read only memory (ROM) (2) in which data specifying a financial body and a stored program for processing procedures are stored, a writable and readable random access memory (RAM) (3), and a central processing unit (CPU) (1) for writing or reading out the data and/or program. When, in a transaction processing, a customer inserts his IC card (6) into a terminal (16), the terminal (16) first reads out the financial body specifying data from the ROM 2. If the data as read out is correct, the terminal (16) further generates a signal indicating that the required transaction is possible and provides the signal to the CPU 1 in the IC card, where the stored program for processing procedures is read out from the ROM 2. A transaction is performed in accordance with the read program. If and when no stored program is stored in the ROM 2, the terminal (16) indicates an impossible transaction through a CRT (19) to inform a customer of the fact.

  • Patent number: 4692728
Abstract: An electromagnetically operated relay having a spring which compensates for misalignment of a moveable block as shown and described. The movable block reciprocates within said relay housing in response to forces exerted by the electromagnet. The block includes projections which engage openings in an leaf spring which biases the block. The spring to block engagement provides compensation for misalignment of the block, and for unequal forces applied to the block and/or spring. The compensation provided by the spring to block engagement is achieved by a loose fit between projections on the slidable block and openings in the spring. The freedom of movement provided by the slots allows the spring to bulge in a direction opposite to the force on the spring end with respect to the sliding block. By creation of this bulge between the two two projections on the sliding block, compensation is provided to the spring system.
