  • Patent number: 8275754
Abstract: One particular implementation conforming to aspects of the present invention takes the form of a method for tracking the stability of a data set for multiple observers. More particularly, a tracker object may be used to both mark a particular state of the data and to query if the data remains unchanged. Code that accesses the data set to calculate a result may fetch a reference to a current tracker object associated with the data set. The code may compare the current tracker object received from the data set against the tracker object associated with the last cached result. In an alternate arrangement, a state may be associated with the data set to indicate some characteristics of the data set. The state value associated with the data set may further simplify the action required by a code accessing the data set to receive an accurate calculation.

  • Patent number: 8276126
Abstract: Techniques for isolating software regressions are provided. In one approach, QTrace is used to generate DTrace scripts to gather timing information of one or more portions of source code during a test of particular version of a program. Based on results of one or more tests of multiple versions of a program, a regression is identified with respect to a particular portion of source code. It is determined that the particular portion of source code was changed during an intermediate version of the program (i.e., between two tests). The intermediate version and/or the particular portion of source code are identified as being a potential source of the regression.

  • Patent number: 8275177
Abstract: A fingerprint and indexing service is implemented to receive a media object and generate a fingerprint corresponding to the media object. The fingerprint and indexing service may segment the fingerprint into frames and generate a confidence value for each bit within each frame. The confidence values may be added together and totaled, such that each frame has a corresponding confidence score. The frames may be ranked, according to their confidence scores. N of the top ranked frames may be selected as the index. Subsequently, a search component may determine the index values for a query media object. The database of media objects may be searched for matching index values for fingerprints with fingerprint lengths matching the query media object's length. Once a match is declared, the fingerprints of the query media object and the matching media objects within the database may be compared to determine if a match exists.

  • Patent number: 8269544
Abstract: An integrated circuit that includes a digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) that adjusts a clock frequency of a critical path of the integrated circuit based on the variations in a power-supply voltage of the DCO and the critical path is described. This DCO may be included in a feedback control loop that includes a frequency-locked loop (FLL), and which determines an average clock frequency of the critical path based on a reference frequency. Furthermore, the DCO may have a selectable delay characteristic that specifies a delay sensitivity of the DCO as a function of the power-supply voltage, thereby approximately matching a manufactured delay characteristic of the critical path. Additionally, for variations in the power-supply voltage having frequencies greater than a resonance frequency associated with a chip package of the integrated circuit, adjustments of the clock frequency may be proportional to the variations in the power-supply voltage and the selectable delay characteristic.

  • Patent number: 8271735
Abstract: A new “held” (“H”) cache-coherency state is introduced for directory-based multiprocessor systems. Using the held state enables embodiments of the present invention to track sharers that have a shared copy of a cache line after a directory runs out of space for holding information that identifies processors that have received shared copies of the cache line (e.g., pointers to sharers of the cache line). In these embodiments, when a directory entry is full, the system provides subsequent shared copies of the cache line to sharers in the held state and tracks the identity of the held-copy owners in a data field in the entry for the cache line in a home node.

  • Patent number: 8271716
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for simultaneously supporting multiple hosts with a single communication port; each host may host multiple functions. The input/output device comprises multiple buffers; each buffer stores packets for one host, but can be dynamically reallocated to a different host. Multiple buffers may simultaneously support the same host and all of its functions. After a packet is received and classified, it is distributed to buffer ingress managers. Within a set of ingress managers serving one buffer, each manager corresponds to one function of the buffer's corresponding host, and is programmed with criteria for identifying packets desired by that function. One copy of the packet is stored in a buffer if at least one of the buffer's ingress managers accepts it, along with control information for processing the packet upon egress from the buffer. Egress managers for each buffer extract packets and transfer them to destination host/functions.

  • Patent number: 8265433
Abstract: An optical switch is described that includes two optical waveguides, which are defined in a semiconductor layer, positioned proximate to an intermediate component, such as a micro-resonator or a directional coupler. Material underneath a portion of either or both optical waveguides is removed so that the portion of either or both optical waveguides is free standing, and a group of electrodes is proximate to the free-standing portion of either or both optical waveguides. During operation of the optical switch, a spacing-control circuit applies an electrical signal to the group of electrodes. An electrostatic force associated with the electrical signal modifies a spacing between the free-standing portion of either or both optical waveguides and the intermediate component, thereby substantially increasing optical coupling between either or both optical waveguides and the intermediate component to convey a broadband optical signal between the optical waveguides.
